Members’ Announcements City of Salem and Dent County will host the 4th Strategic Meeting on Feb. 5th

At this next meeting the participants will be divided into focus groups to develop an action plan to address some of the issues identified in the various categories, as was done at the December meeting. The four groups will be: Tourism Government Healthcare/Social Services Community Involvement/Communication The meeting is at the Salem R-80 Upper Elementary School, 1601 Doss Road, and beginning at 6:00 PM.

The Salem Public Library is beginning to consider plans for the design of the newly acquired library building.

The Board of the Salem Public Library would greatly appreciate the public’s input in this process in order to best meet the needs and expectations of the community now and as they move into the 21st century. Refer to the Salem Public Library Physical Assets Allocation Survey attached.

Salem Economic Development Department, Missouri Forest Products Association and Missouri Enterprise are offering a workshop that discuss ways to Increase Profits for Area Wood Products Industries - There are many important keys to the success of a business, but none are more important than controlling costs and increasing sales. To help area wood products industries manage costs and increase sales, the Missouri Forest Products Association is co-sponsoring a free, one day workshop in Salem on February 21 at the Salem TCRC, 1200 West Rolla Road. Co-sponsors are the city of Salem and Missouri Enterprise.

The workshop is titled “Growing Profits for Missouri’s Wood Industries.” Any industry that makes a product out of wood is welcome to attend. Five presentations are featured in this one day event.

• Saving Time and Money Through Lean Manufacturing and Value Stream Mapping • Saving Money on Energy Costs and Environmental Sustainability • Selling Wood Products to International Markets • Creating New Products, Services, Marketing Messages, and Business Models to Grow Profitable Sales

Three of the presenters are experienced business and manufacturing professionals from Missouri Enterprise, a non-profit organization that provides hands-on assistance and training to help Missouri manufacturers succeed. The fourth presenter is the International Marketing Specialist from the Missouri Department of Agriculture who specializes in finding export opportunities for forest products industries. There is no cost to attend the workshop, but pre-registration is required. To register, you can call Rick Prugh at 573-308-7581 or register on-line at www.missourienterprise.org and click on the workshop title under the seminars and events heading. This workshop is made possible through funding from the USDA Forest Service. See attachment for workshop.

Dent County Extension is hosting their Annual Forage and Beef Conference to be held Monday, February 11th at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Cuba, MO. The program begins with registration at 12:30. Refer to attachment.

Do You Have Rooms for rent?

The Rally in the 100 Acre Wood wants to know if local residents have rooms, homes, or garages available for rent. If you do please let the Chamber of Commerce know so they can pass along your contact information to the Rally Committee who will post it on their website. The goal of the rally webpage is to arrange rally guests with potential renters. The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood is not responsible for handling any monetary exchanges in regards to deposits or money due to the renter. Both are also not responsible for any damages or loss in regards to these agreements.

Members: Do you have promotional items that you would like to be a part of the Road Rally Visitor Packets? If yes, please have 350 – 400 copies or items dropped off at the chamber office by February 12th. Are you going to keep your place of business open later on ROAD RALLY weekend Feb. 22 or 23? Let us know so we can be sure to have information for all the spectators, drivers and volunteers coming to Salem the last week in February. If you are planning a special event or meal function that might be of interest for 100 Acre Wood visitors – let us know so we can pass along.

RALLY in the 100 Acre Wood - Performance Rallying is one of the world's most challenging and popular motor sports. Unlike any other type of car racing, rally teams face a "track" which is unknown to them and which consists of rugged unpaved roads

across terrain including sand, gravel, mud or snow. This event serves as the second event on the Rally-America national championship calendar. Champions from coast to coast will come to race head-to-head in the foothills of the Ozarks to crown winners in all five performance rally classes. More information can be found at www.100aw.org.
