    N e w s l e t t e r

PRINCIPALS MESSAGEDear Parents,It has been a very busy and productive start to the year and as you can see from the

upcoming schedule, school will continue to be busy in the upcoming days and weeks. Most of these activities are either fully funded or heavily subsidised through the school donation and to a smaller extent the parent group. We greatly appreciate the financial support that our community provides as this allows us to provide an interesting and varied programme. Thank you also to the many parents who attended the Meet the Teacher evening. You can find details about the Parent/Teacher interviews inside this newsletter where you will be able to discuss your childs needs in greater detail.

    Kind regards,Simon ClarkePrincipal

  • SYNDICATE NEWS

Middle News Welcome back, it has been a great start to the year so far. The Middles classes have enjoyed getting to know each other in their classes and also in the syndicate. The children have coped well with the hot weather, may we remind you that we do have sunscreen at school but it is wise to apply some before leaving the house. Children are welcome to bring shorts to school to change into as well.We have had Rohan, Lewis, and Tom teaching Futsal skills which the children have really enjoyed. Those who play will be able to apply these skills next week when games begin, and we wish them luck. Children have shown great perseverance during these lessons and also during our fitness times.Reminder: Room 3 and 5 are visiting the aquarium next Tuesday and Room 6 will be visiting on Wednesday. Please remember that on all school trips children are expected to wear their Kaikorai top, and on this trip they will also need covered shoes (no sandals etc).

Junior NewsWelcome back to school. It is great to see how settled and ready to learn the children are. Our big concept for this term is RELATIONSHIPS.We have been talking about our KAIK values and learning about being kind and what we need to do to be Bucket Fillers. Building class relationships and learning how to make friends is our priority to ensure happy classes and happy children. This week we began a 2-week focus on Terrific Teeth. We are learning about how we need to care for our teeth and what happens when we dont. Things coming up this term are a visit from author David Elliot, swimming from 14th March for 8 days and a trip to the aquarium in April so it is going to be an exciting term. Thank you to all the parents that took the time to come to our meet the teacher evening on Wednesday. The teachers really appreciated being able to share their programmes and routines with you.Happy learning, we will see you at our parent interviews in March.

Senior NewsThe weather has been very kind to us over the first part of Term 1 (sometimes a little too kind), and we have managed to be outside for our daily PE and fitness activities. A special highlight has been the futsal lessons with our visiting experts. The senior classes are continuing to settle into their class routines. The classrooms are all looking more interesting as the childrens work in mathematics and art has been put up on the walls. The maths statistical investigations have all centred on our main concept of Relationships, and these have provided excellent opportunities for us all to build our class friendships and broader working relationships. Our art work has focused on developing skills in the use of line and proportion, and colour blending in portraiture. We are all looking forward to our class trips to the Art Gallery next week, where we will work with John Neumeggen to view some of the gallerys collection of portraits. We will then make our own art works in the workshop there. We hope the good weather continues to allow us to walk down to the Art Gallery.

This year the road patrol is operating on Wright Street, directly outside the school gate, before school (8.30am-8.55am) and after school (3.00pm-3.15pm). Please follow the instructions of the volunteer and cross close to the orange cone.

For those parking and driving on Wright Street, be aware of this crossing when making your way in the area. Note that the crossing at the traffic lights on Highgate is no longer patrolled.

We still require six volunteers to ensure that the crossing is operating for the full term. Please email Vanessa at [email protected] if you can help one week per term.
