CATHOLIC APPEAL
Weekend of Mar 10, 2018
This past week, many of you received a letter from Cardinal Seán requesting your support of the 2018
Catholic Appeal. Supporting the Catholic Appeal is the most effective way to carry out the work of the
Church, both within and beyond parish boundaries. Our parish directly benefits from the ministries
supported by the Appeal and your gift will help us reach our 2018 goal. If you have not already done so,
please prayerfully consider making an early pledge. You may mail your pledge or visit
www.bostoncatholicappeal.org to give online. Thank you!
Operation Rice Bowl Join our faith community—and nearly 14,000 Catholic

Lenten journey of encounter with CRS Rice Bowl.
Religious Ed students received their rice bowls in Class. If you
have not received one, please pick one up in the back of the
church and return to church or Religious Ed Class by Holy
Thursday.

Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 pm
The Light is On for You every Wednesday during Lent. A great opportunity to reconcile yourself to our
merciful Lord before the great day of Easter
Adoration with Confessions & Rosary Thursdays 6:30 - 7:30 pm
As the Catechism teaches, Adoration is homage of
the human soul to the King of Glory and respectful
silence in the presence of the ever greater God.
Eucharistic Adoration is an extension of Mass and
serves to deepen our hunger for Communion with
Christ and the rest of the Church. Ladies Sodality
will be present to lead the Rosary.
Stations of the Cross with Benediction Fridays 6:30-7:30 pm
Of all the Lenten devotions, Stations and
Benediction are the most deeply rooted in what
Lent is about. Each Friday of Lent you are invited
to walk the “Via Dolorosa” with Our Lord and
worship Him at the foot of the Cross as his Blessed
Mother and the Beloved Disciple did.

REGULATIONS OF LENT
Good Friday is a day of Fast and Abstinence

Fasting and Abstinence
Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. In addition, all
Catholics 14 years old and older must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent.
Fasting means partaking of only one full meal per day and 2 smaller meals that do not add up to another full meal.
Abstinence forbids the use of meat, but not of eggs, milk products, or condiments made of animal fat.
Lenten Gospel Giving To assist St. Athanasius Parish families in the practice of almsgiving during this Lenten season, we collect items for
charity to assist those in need. Members of our parish (old, young, and in-between) are asked to bring one item to
Mass as indicated in this booklet during its respective weekend of Lent.
