Why isn’t the bald eagle bald? Its common knowledge that birds have feathers. So why are we told that the national emblem is the bald eagle? Up close, the bald eagle has dark brown feathers on its body and white feathers on its head and tail. Long ago the word balded in Middle English meant “white fur or feathers.” This bird was called the “balded” eagle, meaning the one with white head feathers, through time, the word was shortened to bald. The bald eagle is a majestic and interesting crea-ture. It takes only one mate for its whole life, and the pair builds only one nest. Every year the eagles add sticks to their nest, sometimes creating a home that weighs hundreds of pounds and measures almost ten feet across. The bald eagle was voted as the nation’s official mascot in 1782. But if Benjamin Franklin had been given his way, the vote would have been different. His suggestion was that the best choice for an American symbol would be his favorite bird, the turkey. So what? No one can dispute that the eagle displays majesty and power, for its flight inspires awe and admiration. God understand the impact that the eagle can have on people who see it. That’s why He refers to the eagle in these words of encouragement to us: read Isa.40:31. Anytime you’re feeling tired or discouraged, think of the eagle and spread your “wings.” God’s love will lift you up and carry you through. Pastor and Sis. Ware is away today ministering at the Maranatha church in Tallahassee. Please pray for their safe travel and that the Holy Ghost will inspire the message to lift and deliver some precious soul.
