Dear ISC,
Please remember that next week Friday is a 12 o’clock dismissal for our 3rd quarter teacher in-service day. Addition-
ally, 15 of our faculty members will start the first day of a two-day training session for MYP. The training concludes
on Saturday.
Next week Thursday is our annual Open House day for prospective students. Most other schools on the island host
their open house on a Saturday, but we prefer to have ours during a regular school day for parents to see the school in
action. We have advertised in the newspapers and on social media, but if you do know of families who are thinking
of coming to ISC next year, please let them know of the date.
Thanks to all who attended the Town Hall Meeting last Friday.
The new strategic plan has been made public and is posted on
our website. For a direct link, please click on the image here.
Hope to see you Saturday at the Talent Show!
Sincerely,
Douglas Vaughan
Director

The 6th graders just completed their first MYP based project incorporating Geom-etry into Art. Please pass by when you have a minute to take a look at their final pieces and read to see how they were inspired and what Math components can be found!

Elementary School News: 2nd Grade’s Field Trip to a Farm!
On Thursday, February 7th we went to Hofi Cas Cora in the ISC Bus. We are
learning about plants in Science, so we planted some peanut seeds in our
classroom with a guest from Hofi Cas Cora named Muriel. We went to the
farm to plant our peanut seedlings in the ground.
We had a blast at Hofi Cas Cora!
One reason is because we got to feed and see some animals. For exam-
ple, we saw and fed hens, pigs, donkeys (even a baby donkey!) ducks and
peacocks! The peacocks had a lot of colorful feathers and all of the ducks
were named Elvis. It was confusing and funny at the same time!
Another reason is because we made peanut butter
and jam sandwiches. We got to make the peanut but-
ter! The ingredients for the peanut butter are: peanuts,
salt, coconut oil and honey. The peanut butter was de-
licious, especially because we made it ourselves. Muriel
made papaya jam for us using a fresh papaya.
The last reason is that we got to see a Venus Fly Trap in
action! A Venus Fly Trap is a plant that catches flies
and other insects. We tested the plant by using a small
stick to touch part of the plant to see how it would react. It reacted quickly
by closing it’s plant “teeth!” If you see one of us around school, ask us
about the Venus Fly Trap!
These are our reasons why we had a blast on our field trip at Hofi Cas
Cora!

Let’s talk Arduino
Arduino is described by its creators as "an open-source electronics prototyping
platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software." In plain English,
it is a popular open-source electronic board that is capable of controlling real-
world objects with software and hardware.
This week our HS Computer class started building small circuits, writing some
instructions, debugging the program and finally uploading the code into the
microcontrollers to make the circuit respond to our commands.
Great work !
