ldquoHow few think with joy on the glory a Mass gives to God How few rejoice to possess the means of honoring Him as He deserves If we only knew the treasure we hold in our handsrdquo
It was so great to see the church packed at the 815 Mass last Sunday Unfortunately so many people fail to see the beauty of the Mass and thus donrsquot come and others may regularly attend Mass but see it more as a routine and fail to see the miracle it really is This quote really puts the Mass into perspective Yes God loves it when we act charitably when we enrich our mind body and soul when we celebrate birthdays Baptisms Confirmationshellipbut he loves it even more when we take one hour to honor Him in the Mass If God is so honored by the Mass then equally must Satan be honored when we decide to forgo the Mass for inadequate reasons Although there are valid reasons for missing Mass (illness weather work) often people miss Mass for superficial reasons Is it really so hard to give God one hour of our week when we know He is so pleased and we receive graces beyond measure For more information on this saint please visit httpswwwfranciscanmediaorgsaint-claude-de-la-colombi-egrave-re

Safeguarding All of Godrsquos Children - On February 19 and March 1 OLL CRE teachers will share with their students the archdiocesersquos ldquoSafeguardingrdquo lessons appropriate for their age group Parents have received a letter advising them of this required session From the Archdiocese ldquoResearch reminds us that teaching children how to resist the overtures of a potential molester requires repetition and reinforcement Children and young people need to know the rules and they need to hear them over and over and over again so that the rules become part of a thought process This is done in the same way we teach the rules about looking both ways before crossing the street and the danger of getting too close to an open flame Empowering children to speak up and resist the overtures of potential molesters can stop a child molester in his or her tracks Molesters who fear being caughtmdashand being labeled a molestermdashmay decide it is not worth the risk and back offrdquo

Scriptures Sir 1515-20 1 Cor 26-10 Matt 517-37
Todayrsquos Gospel reading reminds us that the meaning of the 10 commandments goes far beyond the literal words The vast majority of us can certainly say wersquove never killed another human being and yet more than likely we break this commandment on a regular basis The deeper intent of this commandment is that we respect the dignity of every human being from conception to natural death It does not only mean ldquodo not take anotherrsquos liferdquo It also means treating others with love dignity respect compassion and all the other traits that Jesus modeled for us Scripture scholars say the word ldquoRaqardquo is an abusive term perhaps similar to our words ldquoblockheadrdquo or ldquoimbecilerdquo How often do we call each other names How often do we downgrade those we donrsquot like How often do we insult another because he or she looks acts or thinks differently than us How often do we get angry with another and refuse to forgive them When we do these things we ldquokillrdquo anotherrsquos spirit and take a bit of their soul away from them This is breaking the fifth commandment Matthew tells us we should make peace with our brothers and sisters before offering our gifts at the altar This is one of the reasons that the ldquosign of peacerdquo is built into the Liturgy of the Eucharist It is a symbolic reminder that if we are serious about our wish to live as Christ did we must live in peace with one another Making peace is serious business and itrsquos often difficult Perhaps this week we can each think of one person with whom we need to make peace If we each reach out to that person and begin the peace-making process we can gather around the altar next week with cleaner hearts and more peace-filled spirits Perhaps we could do this each week Imagine how peace could begin to burst forth and grow If these peace-making efforts became a habit we would all be much better at living the commandment ldquoThou shalt not killrdquo Deb Hamm Pastoral Associate

CLUSTER HUMAN CONCERNS
OLL CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Most of you know that there is a thermometer in front of the OLL Chapel that is keeping track of progress for our Capital Campaign We continue to slowly climb toward that goal Did you know that the official dedication of the current St Maryrsquos Chapel took place on January 24 1896 and was presided over by Archbishop Katzer then-Archbishop of Milwaukee The congregation at that time consisted of about forty-five families Think about that 45 families were generous enough to build this chapel with the exception of the sacr isty addition which was added later The generosity of our ancestors can be a shining example for us who value our faith Please pray about how important your faith is to you and be generous in your response to the redecoration project
OLL PARISH APP
