Prayerfully Supporting the Capital Campaign

3,907,734 Hail Mary Prayers Thank you for your faithfulness!

We are over three quarters of the way to our goal of Five Million Hail Mary’s in support of the Capital Campaign! As we get closer to our goal, let’s remember the words of St. Paul: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a

harvest if we do not give up.” The most important thing we can do to support our Capital Campaign and Building Project is to pray, so keep up the wonderful work!

There are several ways of recording our prayerful work. There are small blue tracking forms in the Narthex and side entrance to the church, and in the school. Please fill out the form and place it in the accompanying basket. If you prefer to report your progress via e-mail, please send your name and the number of Hail Mary prayers to [email protected]. You can also enter your Hail Mary totals directly online at www.stleos.org. Under the Capital Campaign tab, scroll down to the “Support Through Prayer” section and click on the online form.

Thank you again for your support! With your cooperation, we will achieve our goal oaf advancing God’s kingdom on earth.

Old Palms Needed Palms from last year will be collected on the weekends of February 17th and 23rd. The old palm will be burned to make ashes for Ash Wednesday, March 6th. Please place old palm in baskets provided in the Narthex. Please remember, since the palm has been blessed, it should either be burned or buried.

IT SHOULD NEVER BE DISCARDED AS TRASH.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN 2 NEWS February 2019

As of January 31, 2019, the combined pledged and non-pledged contributions for our three-year Capital Campaign #2 are $1,434,430 from 486

contributors. The update shows $1,104,893 has been received from 203 pledges of $1,523,875. An additional 283 donors have contributed another $329,538. So, in combination with some contributions from Capital Campaign #1, this puts our savings balance in the Building Fund at $1,766,352 as of January 31, 2019.

Work continues with our general contractor, Warfel Construction, our architect, Cornerstone Design Architects, and our engineer, Red Barn Consulting. Several additional permits and approvals are required as we develop the details of the 6 to 9-month long construction schedule. As soon as we have the final permits in hand and have secured the balance of the project funding, we will provide more details regarding construction schedule, changes to parking lot traffic patterns, and any other impact to our campus.

With almost 3.8 million Hail Mary’s prayed, we are well on our way to our goal of 5 million Hail Mary’s. Please continue to pray for the success of this campaign, and for the safety of all workers that will be involved in the future construction.

Contact the Parish Manager, Frank Kuchinski, Ph.D., for further information on this project at 717 394 1742 x141 or [email protected].

That Man Is You-Week 20Physics and Faith: Beauty Beyond Description

Dr. Baglow is with us again this week as we continue our journey into freedom through the sanctification of the mind. As we are

beginning to see, thought matters! This week we will: • Clearly understand the importance of beauty and how a proper understanding of the discoveries of science cannot prove God, but can indeed lead us into an encounter with God. • Through the intricacies and sophistications of the cosmos, help men grow in wonder and awe of the mind of God. This should lead to a great personal humility as well as an openness to the unknowns and mysteries of creation. Many have proclaimed that the world will be saved through beauty. See you this week for another session you won’t want to miss!

Join us this week and invite a friend. The next meeting is Saturday, February 23rd. Breakfast is served at 6:15 AM. The program begins at 6:45 AM and finishes at 7:45 AM in Rooms 3 and 4, just in time for 8:00 AM Holy Mass.

Advisory Board Applications Applications are being accepted for School Board to serve a 3-year term. We invite both School parents and all active members of the parish commu-nity (all associated parishes

included) with an interest in the school to consider join-ing this advisory board. We need you to contribute your unique talents while collaborating and working as a team with other board members and our principal and pastor! Meetings are typically held at 7:00 PM on the first Mon-day of the month running during the school year and last approximately 90 minutes. Commitment varies, but aver-ages 4 hours/month. Serving on this committee fulfills your 40 hours stewardship commitment. For more infor-mation or a brief application, contact Sean Francey at 608-358-4557 or [email protected]. Applications due March 4th.

February 6, 2019 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The challenges of our present time have shaken the faith and broken the hearts of many of the Catholic faithful throughout the Church. I have had opportunities to listen to the cries of outrage and concern at deanery gatherings, after visits to parishes, and through the many letters I have received. I continue to “suffer with those who suffer” (cf. 1 Corinthians 12:16) as a consequence of the sins of infidelity committed by members of the clergy and to “bear the burdens” (Galatians 6:2) of the many who are hurting. These sins have damaged the lives of the innocent and have divided the Church.

As people of faith we look for strength and help in the assured instruments of prayer and penance. The apostle James writes to the Church, “Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed (James 5:26).” The communal prayer of the Church is powerful, indeed, interceding for the good of Her members and for all individuals. In the Catechism of the Catholic Church, we are reminded that “Christian intercession participates in Christ’s, as an expression of the communion of saints” (2635) and that “the intercession of Christians recognizes no boundaries. (2636).”

In a special way, I invite you to share in this holy prayer of intercession for the healing of survivors of abuse and the healing of all the members of the Church whose faith has been tested. Through the great prayer of the Holy Mass and the gift of the Holy Rosary, the Church has found strength in past times of trial. Through the intercession of the Saints and the invocation of the Holy Angels, the members of the Church on earth find heavenly helpers who give consolation and hope along the way.

Over the last several months, many parishes have begun to recite the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel at the celebration of Mass and many other parishes and individuals have asked me to mandate the use of the prayer throughout the Diocese. After discussing the issue with the Council of Priests and in light of those many requests, I am asking that all parishes throughout the Diocese of Harrisburg begin to recite the Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel either before or after Holy Mass, or at the conclusion of the parish announcements made at Mass, by the First Sunday of Lent, March 10, 2019.

Saint Therese of Lisieux has described prayer as “a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.” Whenever we recite the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel, we lift our hearts on high with a cry for help and healing. As the guardian and protector of God’s people (cf. Daniel 12:1), the Archangel Michael continues to wage battle against the Evil One who tempts the members of the Church to infidelity, doubt, discouragement, and despair. Aware of our brokenness and the weakness that befalls us in this time, our prayer to Saint Michael acknowledges that the greatest spiritual battle is often waged within - among the members of the Church and within the hearts of each member - where evil tempts us to give up.

Certainly we do not cast ourselves upon the superstitious notion that the mere exterior recitation of a prayer will ward off evil: this prayer needs to be accompanied by our sincere desire for interior conversion, purpose of amendment, and faith, however small and broken that might be. Remember, it only takes faith the size of a mustard seed to move mountains (cf. Matthew 17:20).” And, we cannot forget what Jesus teaches not long after that simple lesson, “If two of you agree on earth, about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father (Matthew 18:19).”

Brothers and sisters in Christ, broken members of the Body of the Christ: let us agree to pray for healing and heavenly help that, together, in the company of all the angels and saints, we may purify the Church of infidelity and pursue the path to heaven with perseverance.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Sincerely in Christ,

Collection for Those in Need Our next collection of grocery gift cards and cash donations for those in need will be held on the weekend of February 16th & 17th at all Masses.
