BIG THANK YOU!

One of our parish service superstars is reaching her centennial this month.

Peggy’s Has Done It All:

She threw one of the first shovelfuls of dirt for the ground-breaking in 1959.

The Women’s Club owes her a debt of

gratitude for almost 50 years of service, membership, made handmade gifts for sale & contributed in many other ways

Many of our former BSPS kids remember her fondly for serving at Hot Dog Days for 15 years & Mother’s Club President.

You may not have known about her many years of service for all of us at church. She spent many hours washing and ironing church linens every Monday morning. She was also a

Eucharistic Minister, made weekly visits to the homebound sick & at Collwood.

As a member of the Martha & Mary group she helped grieving families by cooking, serving & cleaning up after funeral receptions.

She’s a big believer in regular prayer, and she practiced weekly Adoration for many years.

Wish Happy Birthday to the Queen of Tuesday Senior Bingo!

God’s Summons

Confronted with God’s power and majesty, the first response of the prophet Isaiah was to acknowledge his sinfulness. “Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips,” he said aloud. Likewise, with his empty fishing nets dramatically filled at Jesus’ instruction, Peter fell to his knees and cried out, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.”

Next, Peter got up. He docked his boats then left to follow Jesus. Isaiah also had a dramatic change of heart. When he heard the Lord say, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” Isai-ah answered, “Here I am, send me.”

We are summoned daily by the Risen Lord. We are reminded of the saving power of the gospel and know in our heart of hearts that, as St. Paul wrote, believing in anything else won’t lead to anything.

What will it take for you to move past your sinfulness? What will it take for you to get off your knees? What will it take for you to bring to dock what is unimportant and to accept your call to be God’s messenger? Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

Treasures from Our Tradition

The Reign of God comes about because people commit to reversing their lives completely, & embracing new values. Many popular television shows exploit an unattractive side of human nature by pitting contestants against one another to gain money or favor.

At the liturgy, we counter that impulse by committing ourselves to live gen-erously. We collect gifts for the poor & money for the upkeep of the parish. Giving from our abundance, and attending to the needs of the poor, opens us up to participation in the changes the Reign of God requires.
