A Message From Pastor David
On the road someone asked if he could go along. "I'll go with you, wherever," he said. Jesus was curt: "Are you ready to rough it? We're notstaying in the best inns, you know."(Luke 9: 57-58) People are often eager to jump on the bandwagon when emotions are highor when the crowds are involved. Jesus knew this. His warning was one of interventionrequiring the committed toconsider the cost. There was a decision that was required.
To another person, Jesus offered an invitation, "Follow me."This word follow is defined as; to take the same route behindanother person. It can also mean to pay careful attention to someone or something. Jesus' instruction, both figuratively andliterally, meant to come after Him by following in His footsteps and by paying careful attention to His words and deeds. The man's responded, "Certainly, but first excuse me for a couple of days, please. I have to make arrangements for my father's funeral."Jesus refused. "First things first. Your business is life, not death. And life is urgent: Announce God's kingdom" (Luke 9:59-60, The Message). His response was one of imposition, requiring the son to forsake family responsibilities that would delay his commitmentto follow Christ. The personal cost seems to be rising. There was no room for delay.
Turning to the last phrase in Luke 9, there is further clarification: "Then another said, 'I'm ready to follow you, Master, but firstexcuse me while I get things straightened out at home.' Jesus said, 'No procrastination. No backward looks. You can't put God's kingdom offtill tomorrow. Seize the day' (Luke 9:61-62, The Message).Jesus understood the absolute necessity of determination. Withoutthis determination/tenacity there arises the temptation to not decide, or to put off deciding, or possibly to decide and bedistracted along the journey. He knew the ways which Satan often used love and devotion to distract people from thepath of true discipleship. Remember God's Word to one of the seven churches in Revelation? "I have this against you, that youhave left your first love" (Revelation 2:4). "But you walked away from your first lovewhy? What's going on with you, anyway? Do you haveany idea how far you've fallen? A Lucifer fall!" (The Message)
We may not always understand why Jesus said things the way He did, but we can be confident that He is a discerner of thethoughts and intents of every heart (my heart) and therefore, His instruction is for our safety (my safety) and victory (myvictory). He comprehends the levels to which I might go to say I am a disciple of Christ, yet he realizes that if I am really tobe a disciple of Christ, then it will not be easy. He proclaims the necessity of considering the costs before I make such acommitment.
As I look back over 26 years of ministry, I have seen too many come and go that were Christians. It breaks my heart, to
observe the shallow commitments that many have made. Jesus knew the risk of offending others with His words, but Healso knew the consequences of incomplete Christians -- they are the reason the world mocks our faith and our God. Jesustook the risk to find true disciples. Are you one of His true disciples?
-Pastor David
If Jesus walked the earth today, I wonder how people would react to what Christ had to say.Within his Word there are many passages that are difficult to swallow. Lukes record on theCost of Discipleship is one of those hard passages.
My Bible sub-titles the passage of Luke 9:57-62 as The Cost of Discipleship. I believe that isaccurate. When a certain person told Jesus he would follow Him anywhere, it seems Jesus'
response was abrupt and to the point. The Message Paraphrase restates it:

of Tegucigalpa). There will be two
trips taking place in 2011. We
would love to have you join us
during this time of ministry.
The first trip is scheduled forJuly

we plan to lay block for the walls
of the church building. We also
plan to hold Vacation Bible School
In preparation for our missions trips to Honduras in 2011, we willbe having a church fellowship directly after church on Sunday,April 3 to raise the funds for the construction of a church buildingin San Matias, Honduras. Over the last few months, we have lookedover and prayed about a long list of projects and needs for ourHonduras brothers and sisters. We believe that the construction of achurch building in San Matias will make a great impact on this
surrounding community; it also gives us a God-sized task. Webelieve that God provides in amazing ways. We are asking for you toconsider joining us for a covered dish luncheon on April 3 as weattempt to raise $6,500 for this project. Will you join us?

I missed the many hours of commercials trying tosell me the latest and greatest Christmas present
ever. I hope to miss the television again next year.
I did not miss having a white Christmas. As you seein the photographs we had snow Christmas
morning. Kayleigh had a blast playing in the snow
with cousins and had an occasional shot at me witha snow ball. It was nice, but I really prefer 70s and
sunshine. I missed the sunshine of a routine FloridaChristmas.
All my siblings were together this year for the firsttime in many. I think I appreciated this more
because of my dads failing health. We were able toget some family pictures that will be more precious
as the years go by. I realized I missed this inprevious years. Thank God I did not miss it this
Christmas.
Family has become more important to me thisseason as I have watched my dads health deteriorate
over the past year. I hope we can all learn to value, guard and appreciate the time we have with family.
Set aside time and guard it. Dont miss theopportunities God gives us for family. Make thetime around the holidays good ones. Don't wasteyour time on projects, work, or stuff that doesn'tmatter. Your family is what matters. I pray thatthrough out the entire year I will focus on what
really matters.
-God Bless you and your family,
Pastor Harold
From the Desk of Pastor HaroldI must admit that I usually dread the Christmas season. As I reflect on the last few
weeks, I am most appreciative of the uniqueness of this season. I enjoyed Christmasmore this year than I have in a very long time. I tried to narrow the reason down toone thing that made the difference and it came down to a few.
This year I watched very little television. I missed the many hours of infomercials andhow to get the latest collection of your favorite Christmas songs.

Eternal Youth
worship is, and that has to be reflected in me. God led me to a point of total submission that night. That
submission led to one of the most powerful nights of worship I have ever seen in a youth meeting. I ask you
all to pray with the other youth workers and myself that this becomes an ongoing experience. We are
beginning to study about what God wants from us when we worship.
Our summer camp is quickly approaching. We leave June 12th. to head to Ridgecrest, North Carolina, for
Centrifuge. This is a one week camp that features bible study, worship, group devotion time, and large
selection of elective activities. It is an amazing experience for teens and youth leaders alike. In order to
make this trip affordable, we will be doing a few fundraisers to help these kids EARN the money to go to
camp.
Our first fundraiser will be taking place on February 20th., immediately following the service. The students
will be providing a spaghetti lunch. The cost will be 5 dollars a plate. It will be served right in the fellowship
hall. There will be tables set up for people who would like to eat and fellowship. There will also be to go
plates available. Starting on the first Sunday in February, there will be a sign up table if you are interested in
taking part in this spaghetti lunch.
Thank you for all your prayers and support.
Stepping out in Faith,
-Derrick Whiteman
Two weeks ago we took a group of our students to see Winter Jam 2011. Itwas our first real group outing. There were some really great bands at this
concert and all the students that went seemed to have a really good time. Oneof the better acts was The David Crowder Band. They played a worship setafter the main speaker gave his testimony. The worship set was amazing. TheChorus of one of the songs says Oh praise Him. Oh praise Him. He is
worthy. He is worthy. Who knew (other than God) that such a simplearrangement of words could speak such powerful truths.
That song got me thinking about worship with the youth, or, the lack ofworship going on upstairs. I started to pray about it and God really knockedme to my knees. I really want the students who come upstairs to know what
