Making the BlocksLog Cabin Blocks1. Sew one 2” x 3-1/2“ Fabric B piece to one 3-1/2” Fabric A square. Sew one 2“ x 5” Fabric C piece to the right side, one 2“ x 5” Fabric D piece to the bottom, and one 2“ x 6-1/2” Fabric H piece to the left side to complete the first round.

2. Sew one 2“ x 6-1/2” Fabric F piece to the top, one 2“ x 8” Fabric E piece to the right side, one 2“ x 8” Fabric G piece to the bottom, and one 2“ x 9-1/2” Fabric G piece to the left side to complete Log Cabin Block #1. Make a total of eighteen #1 blocks. Square to 9-1/2”.

3. Sew one 2“ x 3-1/2” Fabric B piece to one 3-1/2“ Fabric A square. Sew one 2” x 5“ Fabric C piece to the right side, one 2” x 5“ Fabric B piece to the bottom, and one 2” x 6-1/2“ Fabric H piece to the left side to complete the first round.

4. Sew one 2“ x 6-1/2” Fabric F piece to the top, one 2“ x 8” Fabric E piece to the right side, one 2“ x 8” Fabric F piece to the bottom, and one 2“ x 9-1/2” Fabric G piece to the left side to complete Log Cabin Block #2. Make a total of twenty #2 blocks. Square to 9-1/2”.

5. Sew one 2“ x 3-1/2” Fabric B piece to one 3-1/2“ Fabric A square. Sew one 2” x 5“ Fabric C piece to the right side, one 2” x 5“ Fabric B piece to the bottom, and one 2” x 6-1/2“ Fabric C piece to the left side to complete the first round.

6. Sew one 2“ x 6-1/2” Fabric F piece to the top, one 2“ x 8” Fabric E piece to the right side, one 2“ x 8” Fabric F piece to the bottom, and one 2“ x 9-1/2” Fabric E piece to the left side to complete Log Cabin Block #3. Make a total of four #3 blocks.

Snowball Blocks1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of four 3-1/8” Fabric L squares. Place a marked square right sides together on one corner of a 9-1/2” Fabric A square. Stitch on the marked line, trim seam allowance to 1/4” and press open.

2. Repeat on remaining three corners to create a snowball block. Make a total of three snowball blocks using Fabric A and square to measure 9-1/2”.

3. In the same way, make a total of three each snowball blocks using the following 9-1/2” squares: Fabrics D, E, F, H, I, J, K N and O and 3-1/8“ Fabric L squares.

Assembling the Quilt1. Lay out the forty-two Log Cabin blocks, thirty Snowball blocks, twenty-two Fabric M setting triangles and four Fabric M corner triangles into twelve diagonal rows as shown in the Quilt Layout Diagram on p. 5.

2. Sew the blocks and triangles into rows and join the rows to complete the quilt top. Trim the quilt top 1/4” past the points of the outer blocks.

3. Measure the quilt top lengthwise and widthwise across the center of the quilt. Sew the nine 3-1/2” x WOF Fabric L strips short ends together into one long strip. Trim two strips to the length of the quilt and two strips to the width of the quilt. Sew the longer strips to the sides of the quilt. Sew 3-1/2” Fabric B squares to both ends of the remaining Fabric L strips. Sew these pieced strips to the top and bottom of the quilt top.

4. In the same way, measure the quilt lengthwise and widthwise, sew the nine 5-1/2” x WOF Fabric O strips short ends together into one long strip. Trim two strips to the length of the quilt and two strips to the width of the quilt. Sew the longer strips to the sides of the quilt. Sew 5-1/2” Fabric A squares to both ends of the remaining Fabric O strips. Sew these pieced strips to the top and bottom of the quilt top.

FinishingLay the backing right side down, batting and quilt top right side up. Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Use the eight 2-1/4” x 42” Fabric M strips to bind the quilt.
