THE RESURRECTION IN THE GOSPEL OF JOHN ILLUMINATED THROUGH THE SAINT JOHN’S BIBLE
SANDRA M. SCHNEIDERS, IHM received her licentiate of
sacred theology from the Institut Catholique de Paris, and her doctorate of sacred theology from the Pontifical
Gregorian University in Rome. After a distinguished teaching
career, she is now professor emerita of New Testament studies and Christian spirituality at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California. Her many publications include a major trilogy on religious life and the book Jesus Risen in Our Midst: Essays on the Resurrection of Jesus in the Fourth Gospel (2014).
MICHAEL PATELLA, OSB is professor of New Testament at Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary in Collegeville, Minnesota. He led the scholarly work behind
The Saint John’s Bible as chair of the Committee on Illumination
and Text. He is the author of multiple books, including Word and Image: The Hermeneutics of The Saint John’s Bible, which received the 2013 Catholic Press Association award in the Scripture category.
SUSAN SINK is the author of the multi-volume work The Art of The Saint John’s Bible and Habits, a book of stories based on oral histories
of nuns. Her poems and stories have been published in national
literary magazines including Poetry and Chicago Review. Her poetry also appears in her collection The Way of All the Earth.

The Resurrection in the Gospel of John Illuminated through The Saint John’s BibleThe Saint John’s Bible is the first completely handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned since the invention of the printing press more than 500 years ago. “This is a work of art,” Pope Benedict commented, “a great work of art...a work for eternity.” Michael Patella, OSB, will introduce seminar participants to the hermeneutics of The Saint John’s Bible and Susan Sink will describe the creative process that led to its production.
Morning lectures on the resurrection narrative in the Gospel of John by Sandra M. Schneiders, IHM will be complemented by Susan Sink’s afternoon reflections and guided meditations on the illuminations in The Saint John’s Bible. Seminar participants will also enjoy opportunities for small group viewings of a Heritage Edition of the Bible with a docent.
