New StudySync® Feature Available: Google Docs Integration

How does Google Docs work with StudySync?

When a student starts working on a Write assignment in StudySync, there is an option to create a new document in Google Docs, or open an existing document already started in Google Docs. StudySync connects the assignment with the fi le and will remember which fi le the student is working on in Google Docs if not immediately submitted.

When the student has fi nished working in Google Docs, he or she chooses “Preview” in the StudySync assignment to see how the submission will look to their peers and mentors, and then must click the “Submit” button.

After submitting, the response is then available within StudySync for peer review and in teacher Reports, just as if it were written in the default StudySync editor.

Steps for using Google Docs integration (as a Student):

1. Open an assignment with a “Write” component only for assignments that were created after the teacher enabled Google Docs.

2. Click on “New” or “Open” in the new Google Docs toolbar. “New” will create a new document in the “StudySync” folder in the top of the students Google Drive. “Open” will allow the student to choose an existing Google Doc.

3. If the student has never used Google Docs integration before, they will need to sign in to their Google account and Allow the integration. Students should confi rm that they are logged in to the correct Google account before proceeding.

4. Once the integration has been set up, the student is free to edit and work on the assignment in Google Docs, which has opened in a new window or tab.

5. When fi nished, the student needs to return to the assignment in their StudySync window and click “Preview” in the Google Docs toolbar. Students must select Preview fi rst, before they can Submit their work.

6. After clicking the Preview button, students’ work will appear in the StudySync Write box. Then, once they see their work, students can then click the Submit button.
