WELCOME BACK! It seems like ages since we’ve
been able to celebrate Mass together in the church. As I
said often during the livestream of the Mass, the Church
was never closed. Because we are baptized we are the
Church, whether at home, out and about with family, or in
our parish church. We are the Church. The challenge in
these troubling times is to manifest the Church, to make it
ALIVE with our care, concern and love for one another.
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect how
we do things. It continues to threaten our life and our live-
lihood. The worst thing we do is to let those fears and
threats bring out the bad in us, on the contrary it should
scare us into realizing that only God is our hope, and that
even in the face of illness and death, God is our destina-
tion, in this life and the next.
In addition to the Coronavirus our nation is being
affected by another virus, that of indifference to the valid
concerns of our sisters and brothers of, perhaps a different
color, but the same color blood, children of the same God.
We pray for an with them, that Justice may finally be equal
for all. God bless and protect us all from inequality!
BEM-VINDO!
igreja paroquial. Nós somos a igreja.
A pandemia do COVID-19 continua afetando a maneira
como fazemos as coisas. Continua a ameaçar nossa vida e
nosso sustento. A pior coisa que fazemos é deixar esses
medos e ameaças trazerem à tona o mal que há em nós;

3rd Sunday of Lent (Cycle A) The Israelites' hearts were hardened by their hardships in the desert. Though they saw His mighty deeds, in their thirst they grumble and put God to the test in to-day's First Reading - a crisis point recalled also in to-day's Psalm. Jesus is thirsty too in today's Gospel. He thirsts for souls (see John 19:28). He longs to give the Samaritan woman the living waters that well up to eternal life. These waters couldn't be drawn from the well of Jacob, father of the Israelites and the Samaritans. But Jesus was something greater than Jacob (see Luke 11:31-32). The Samaritans were Israelites who escaped exile when Assyria conquered the Northern Kingdom eight centuries before Christ (see 2 Kings 17:6, 24-41). They were despised for intermarrying with non-Israelites and worshipping at Mount Gerazim, not Jerusalem. But Jesus tells the woman that the "hour" of true wor-ship is coming, when all will worship God in Spirit and truth. Jesus' "hour" is the "appointed time" that Paul speaks of in today's Epistle. It is the hour when the Rock of our salvation was struck on the Cross. Struck by the soldier's lance, living waters flowed out from our Rock (see John 19:34-37). These waters are the Holy Spirit (see John 7:38-39), the gift of God (see Hebrews 6:4). By the living waters the ancient enmities of Samaritans and Jews have been washed away, the dividing wall between Israel and the nations is broken down (see Ephesians 2:12-14, 18). Since His hour, all may drink of the Spirit in Baptism (see 1 Corinthians 12:13). In this Eucharist, the Lord now is in our midst - as He was at the Rock of Horeb and at the well of Jacob. In the "today" of our Liturgy, He calls us to believe: "I am He," come to pour out the love of God into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. How can we continue to worship as if we don't understand? How can our hearts remain hardened?
Today in every parish across the Archdiocese, Cardinal
Seán calls on us to support the annual Catholic Appeal.
The success of the Appeal is vital in funding the 51 cen-
tral ministries that provide assistance to our parishes,
schools, and communities in a variety of ways. Every
gift, regardless of the size, is meaningful and can make
an impact. Your participation in this weekend’s cam-
paign is very much appreciated by our parish and the
thousands that are served through the Archdiocesean
Central Ministries. Thank you for your generosity and
support of the 2020 Catholic Appeal this weekend.
Our 2020 Financial Goal is $9,863.00
Prayer of Spiritual Communion by St. Alphonsus di Liguori
My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my
soul. Since I cannot at this moment re-
ceive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually
into my heart. I embrace You as
if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
Oração para Comunhão Espiritual
De Santo Afonso de Liguori
Meu Jesus, eu creio que estais realmente
presente no Santíssimo Sacramento do Altar.
a meu coração. Abraço-me convosco
Amem.
Prayer to Saint Michael Archangel
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wicked-ness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Oração a
São Miguel Arcanjo
São Miguel Arcanjo, defendei-nos no combate. Sede o nosso refúgio contra as
maldades e ciladas do demónio.
Sem a Eucaristia, eu me perguntaria: “Vale a pena?”
Cardeal O’Malley Year of Eucharist Friends, a recent Pew Study entitled •what Americans Know About Religion" reported that only 31% of Catholics believe that the bread and the wine consecrated during the Mass actually become the body and blood of Jesus, and that only half of Catholics know of the Church's teaching concern-ing the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. In order to help people gain a better understanding of the Eucharist, on Holy Thursday 2020, the Archdiocese of Bos-ton will begin a Year of the Eucharist. It is my hope and prayer that through this spiritual initiative we can invite and encour-age our brothers and sisters to find the consolation of the Lord through participation in the celebration of the Eucharist and in times of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. As Catholics, it is in the Eucharist that we learn our identity. At the table of the Lord, Jesus makes a gift of Himself to us because God loves us so much. Just as we discover our identity at the family table, it is in the Eucharist that we discov-er who we are, why we are here, and what is our mission as disciples of Christ. Recent times have been very difficult for the Church and her people. In the Year of the Eucharist, we all have the opportunity to renew and strengthen our faith and our closeness to the Lord. If we center ourselves in the Real Presence of Je-sus, in His friendship, then everything else will make sense. At the celebration of Mass, Jesus is there, waiting for us, inviting us to the table where He is making a gift of Himself to us so that we may have the strength to make a gift of ourselves to others. That is what human fulfillment is about. It is about love and giving of ourselves on behalf of others. That is the mean-ing of the Eucharist, it is love taken to the extreme. The more we understand that, the more we will want to be present to the Eucharist and the more the Eucharist will transform us. God created us and entered into creation in Jesus Christ so we could be close to Him, hear Him, know and love Him. The sacraments not only touch our lives, they mold our very being, and the Eucharist is the center of our sacramental life. That is why I am a Catholic. That is why I am a priest. Without the Eucharist, I would ask myself, "Is it worth it?" I know it is worth it, because Christ really is present in the Eu-charist. May God bless you all abundantly with this assurance that Jesus will be with us always, even to the end of time. That is Jesus' promise and He keeps that promise in the gift of the Eucharist. With the assurance of my prayers for you and all whom you hold dear, I am, Sincerely yours in Christ, Cardinal Sean O’Malley

Easter Sunday (Cycle B) The tomb was empty. In the early morning darkness of that first Easter, there was only confusion for Mary Magdalene and the other disciples. But as the daylight spread, they saw the dawning of a new crea-tion. At first they didn't understand the Scripture, to-day's Gospel tells us. We don't know which precise Scripture texts they were supposed to understand. Perhaps it was the sign of Jonah, who rose from the belly of the great fish after three days (see Jonah 1:17). Or maybe Hosea's prophecy of Israel's restora-tion from exile (see Hosea 6:2). Perhaps it was the psalmist who rejoiced that God had not abandoned him to the nether world (see Psalm 16:9-10). Whichever Scripture it was, as the disciples bent down into the tomb, they saw and they believed. What did they see? Burial shrouds in an empty tomb. The stone removed from the tomb. Seven times in nine verses we hear that word - "tomb." What did they believe? That God had done what Jesus said He would do - raised Him up on the third day (see Mark 9:31; 10:34). What they saw and believed, they bore witness to, as today's First Reading tells us. Peter's speech is a summary of the gospels - from Jesus' baptism in the Jordan to His hanging on a tree (see Deuteronomy 21:22-23), to His rising from the dead. We are children of the apostles, born into the new world of their witness. Our lives are now "hidden with Christ in God," as today's Epistle says. Like them, we gather in the morning on the first day of the week - to celebrate the Eucharist, the feast of the empty tomb. We rejoice that the stones have been rolled away from our tombs, too. Each of us can shout, as we do in today's Psalm: "I shall not die, but live." They saw and believed. And we await the day they promised would come - when we, too, "will ap-pear with Him in glory."

Meu Senhor e meu Deus!
By Dr. Scott Hahn
The Body and Blood of Christ The Eucharist is given to us as a challenge and a promise. That's how Jesus presents it in today's Gos-pel. He doesn't make it easy for those who hear Him. They are repulsed and offended at His words. Even when they begin to quarrel, He insists on describing the eating and drinking of His flesh and blood in starkly literal terms. Four times in today's reading, Jesus uses a Greek word - trogein - that refers to a crude kind of eating, almost a gnawing or chewing (see John 6:54,56,57,58). He is testing their faith in His Word, as today's First Reading describes God testing Israel in the desert. The heavenly manna was not given to satisfy the Is-raelites' hunger, as Moses explains. It was given to show them that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. In today's Psalm, too, we see a connection between God's Word and the bread of life. We sing of God filling us with "finest wheat" and proclaiming his Word to the world. In Jesus, "the living Father" has given us His Word come down from heaven, made flesh for the life of the world. Yet as the Israelites grumbled in the desert, many in today's Gospel cannot accept that Word. Even many of Jesus' own followers abandon Him after this dis-course (see John 6:66). But His words are Spirit and life, the words of eternal life (see John 6:63,67). In the Eucharist we are made one flesh with Christ. We have His life in us and have our life because of Him. This is what Paul means in today's Epistle when He calls the Eucharist a "participation" in Christ's body and blood. We become in this sacra-ment partakers of the divine nature (see 1 Peter 2:4). This is the mystery of the faith that Jesus asks us be-lieve. And He gives us His promise: that sharing in His flesh and blood that was raised from the dead, we too will be raised up on the last day.

Dear Parishioners,
It has been weeks since we have gathered together in our church to celebrate Eucharist together. While the church doors have been closed, as I have often said, the Church never closed. The building has been closed but you have participated in Mass on TV or from our Chapel. You have been with your family and have prayed to-gether, hopefully been nice to others and done things for the other, in doing that you are the Church. The Lord Jesus has been with you the entire time. This weekend we celebrate Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit promised by Jesus to be with us always as companion and advocate.
I am happy to say that the church doors at Saint Anthony will be open for Mass soon. Never have any of us had the experience of a crisis of this magnitude, affecting every part of our lives. Even as our state and local leaders help us to bring the number of cases down, we must remember that which makes it possible to do that. That is being safe and remaining healthy, which requires us to co-operate with the standards set by the Commonwealth of Massachu-setts and the Archdiocese of Boston. The two most important
things we need to remember are to keep practicing safe physical distancing and good hygiene. Addi-tionally, please realize that if you are not feeling well you should stay home. Wash hands with soap for at least 20 seconds, or the time it takes to say an Our Father and a Hail Mary or use hand sanitizer. Wear a mask! We want to make sure we do not contribute to a resurgence of Covid-19. As we begin to restore some semblance of parish life we must move slowly with utmost caution.
No one is obligated, nor should you feel obligated to come to Mass. Cardinal Seán has ex-tended the dispensation from the obligation of Mass for the indefinitely.
Please be patient with your priests and the many volunteers who will help ensure that we are all safe.
We will continue to livestream Mass Monday – Friday in Portuguese and the Sunday Masses in each language.
If you do not feel well, STAY AT HOME!
Seating for Mass will be limited. Reservations will have to be made. Instructions are forthcoming.
You must wear a mask, except for children under 2 years old. Parents should decide whether their children between the ages of 2 and 5 should wear a mask. People with health issues are exempted from wearing a mask. Everyone else must!
The pews and public areas will be cleaned after each Mass. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Please call the rectory if you are able.
Obviously, things will be very different for some time until the threat of Covid-19 is under control or there is a vaccine. We must continue to be cautious and vigilant in caring for ourselves and others. Please read and pay attention to the signs posted, which are in Portuguese and English. Always keep a safe distance from one another, wear your mask, and please listen to directions from the trained Volunteers and the priests. Only together can we keep each other healthy and help to control the virus. You will be receiving a mailing with this letter and further instructions for coming to church.
Peace & Blessings, Fr. Walter

...I was hungry and you gave me food…
Our food pantry is getting empty. Can you help? We need to help our brothers and sisters who need assistance with food when they knock at our door. We need anything you can provide but also things they mostly ask for like: pasta, tomato sauce, peanut butter, jam or jelly, corn in can, tuna, sug-ar, coffee, salt, oil, etc… If you would like to donate some hygiene items we also accept, like: tooth paste and brushes, hair brushes and soaps. Please verify the dates on the food cans before you buy it. You can leave these items at the rectory Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm. Thank you very much and may Our Lord Bless you always.
