Manipal Universal Technology Business Incubator (MUTBI)

MUTBI, operational in 2010, is an initiative of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and is

supported by National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, Government of

India, to provide incubation services to its students, faculty members, alumni and people of the region.

MUTBI encourages people to start their own venture, nurture entrepreneurship skills, create

self-employment, product development and manufacturing in line with the social objectives of

Government of India. MUTBI focuses on thrust areas like Information Technology, IT in Healthcare,

Medical devices, Renewable Energy and MEMS/Nanotechnology. MUTBI provides pre-incubation,

incubation, soft loan & NIDHI-EIR fellowship and MAHE extends its laboratory facilities to

startups. At present 7 companies are incubated and 20 startups graduated from MUTBI. Products

developed/developing by our startups include 3D printers, paper pencils, compact portable eye

imaging device, portable vaccine carrier, hand rehabilitation device for stroke and neuromuscular deficit

patients, an automated rehabilitation device for oral cancer patients etc.

In 2017, MUTBI was selected as one of the Programme Execution Partner (PEP) under NIDHI-EIR

scheme. Our NIDHI- EIR recipients at MUTBI have worked/are working on projects such as an App for

medical consultancy, Vehicle tracking device, Travel bag with added features, Atomating the seed

sowing machine, Drug delivery system as a treatment for Cataract patients, Purification of contaminated

water, Crowd funding for the researchers, paddy drying device, syringe ring etc. Two recipients who

were working on vaccine carrier and safety device for women have moved out as they received funding

under the BIRAC - BIG scheme.

MAHE ecosystem for Innovation & Entrepreneurship has Idea Café, Innovation Centre, Technology

Business Incubator and Bioincubator. Idea café encourages interdisciplinary teams to meet, network

and brainstorm complex problems. Teams formed during ideation stage, use wide range of tools and

equipment to develop prototypes at the Innovation Center. Regular seminars/interactive sessions are

conducted by experts to give wide range of exposure to students and faculty members. Our new

Manipal-Government of Karnataka Bioincubator focuses on molecular diagnostics, biopharma and

biomedical devices and will be operational by the end of 2018.

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT)

MIT was established in the year 1957 as one of the first pioneering self-financing engineering colleges in

the country. In 2000, it became a constituent unit of MAHE, Deemed to be University. With a student

intake of about 2500 per year, total student strength of around 10,000, over 625 faculties, over 1000

support staff, over 30000 alumni, the Institute provides the right ambience and platform for the students'

all round development. MIT has 16 undergraduate programs, 25 post Masters programs and Doctoral

programs in all streams of Engineering and Science under 18 different departments. To promote

innovation, research and entrepreneurship, campus has Innovation center, Central Instrumentation

facility and Incubator. The institute undertakes sponsored research programmes, supported by funding

agencies such as DST, CSIR, AICTE and Ministry of Environmental Sciences. MIT has collaborative

research programs in association with premier research laboratories and institutes in India and abroad.

The institute has innovative, flexible syllabus based programs that involve participation of all

stakeholders like management, academia, students, alumni, industry to discuss updating of the course

contents in a continual process. With state of the art facilities and experienced faculty members, MIT is

certainly one of the most preferred technical institutes in India.

About the program

The most crucial change agents in the process of developing young entrepreneurs are the teachers with

adequate skills, knowledge and information in the area of entrepreneurship. The program is designed to

train and develop trainer-motivators among the teachers so that, they can act as resource persons in

guiding and motivating the young students to take up entrepreneurship as their career. In general, the

program aims to:

• To enable the teachers to guide, motivate and counsel the students towards entrepreneurial career.

• To expose the teachers to the entrepreneurship development process and equip them to organise

Entrepreneurship Awareness camps and Development programs in their colleges.

• To equip the teachers with requisite skills and knowledge for introducing entrepreneurship oriented

course in their colleges and take up Research and Consultancy in Entrepreneurship.
