IntroductionCorning Cable Systems designed the original FDC®

product family to organize and manage high fibercount cross-connect and interconnect installations, pri-marily in rack-mount environments. For years, the FDCproduct family has been used in central office, head-end, and private network installations throughout thetelecommunications industry, allowing customers tohave a versatile, modular fiber management system.Known for its wide range of termination options, easeof installation, pre-connectorized housings, and varietyof equipment racks and rack components, the FDCproduct family has long been considered the pioneerproduct in Corning Cable Systems’ development ofexpertly designed distribution frames and interconnecthardware.

Today’s FDC® Product FamilyToday’s FDC product family incorporates design features that allow the product to better accommodate the changing requirementsand growing needs of today’s fiber optic networks. The FDC family of products includes three types of housings: connector housingsthat accommodate a wide range of termination options, splice housings that enable on-the-rack splicing, and FDC units that combine connector and splice housings in a single unit. The FDC product line also offers network bays, frame components, andaccessories, allowing a complete package tailored to the needs of your installation. By improving on the original design, yet retainingfeatures that will allow total compatibility with the old design, the FDC product family continues to set the standard for the future ofinterconnect hardware.

When you select Corning Cable Systems, you can be assured of our commitment to quality products as well as prompt, courteouscustomer service and expert technical support.

FDC® UnitsDescriptionCorning Cable Systems’ product line of FDC units is a family ofhousings combined for the splicing and termination of fiberoptic cable. Designed to support both cross-connect and inter-connect architectures, FDC units can be used in a wiring centeras an interface to transmission equipment or in dedicated fiberframes where test access and reconfiguration are key require-ments.

FDC units combine the benefits of connector housings andsplice housings into single units. These units use standard FDCpanels and modules and are available in 24-, 72-, and 144-fibercapacities. FDC units are compact and modular, providing ample termination and splice storage capabilities.

To improve quality and reduce installation time of these FDCunits, Corning Cable Systems recommends factory-pigtailedconnector panels or modules. Both are available with a varietyof connector types and come complete with factory-installedand tested connectorized pigtails. These pigtailed units are idealfor use in FDC units to speed the termination of fiber cable and provide the consistent quality performance of factory-installedand polished connectors.

Features / Benefits• Available with panels or modules equipped with preconnec-

torized fiber pigtails

• Available with all common industry connectors

• Supports single-fiber fusion, mass fusion, and mechanicalsplices

• Mountable on standard 19-in (48 cm) or 23-in (58.5 cm)equipment rack or on wall

• Frontal projection of 4.25-in (10.8 cm) or flush-mounted inan equipment rack when flush-mount accessory kit is used

• Optional Universal Cable Clamp (FDC-UCC) for additional, enhanced cable strain-relief
