1 - IDENTIFICATION OF THE PREPARATION AND OF THE COMPANY

    IDENTIFICATION OF THE PREPARATION

DECAPAGE or DEGREASER ST (code: 10006)

CLEANING & DEOXIDISING (code: DPR 5055)

MAIN USE OF THE PREPARATIONThis solution is used at ambient temperature with the selective brush plating process to degrease ferrous metals, nickeland alloys before plating. It is sometimes used for degreasing aluminium alloys but is not recommended on cuprousmetals. As the brush process is applied locally without immersion of the part, just where it is necessary, only small quantities ofsolution are stored or used.

    4 - FIRST AID MEASURES

CONTACT WITH SKINTake off contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash immediately with plenty of water, even without any burning sensation.Take a shower if necessary.

CONTACT WITH EYESRinse immediately with plenty of water for approximately 15 minutes, even without pain. Always seek medical advice.

INHALATIONTheoretically, not applicable. Under abnormal conditions of use causing considerable inhalation, remove the casualtyfrom the contaminated area, let him take a rest in a well-ventilated room and seek medical advice.

INGESTIONDo not give anything to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Call the medical service to transfer immediatelyinto hospital.

PROTECTION OF THE FIRST-AIDERSAccording to the situation, wear gloves, glasses, protective clothes and shoes, a mask ________________________________________________________________________________________________

    5 - FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

SUITABLE EXTINGUISHING MEDIAWater spray, dry ice, powders

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA WHICH SHALL NOT BE USEDNo contraindication.

SPECIFIC HAZARDSDangerous decomposition products:Hydrogen evolution in small quantities in case of reaction with metals. Decomposition of some components begins at150C and gives notably polyacids, unsaturated anhydrides and carbon oxides. Formation of sodium oxide from 1250C.Prevent any material from entering drains or waterways or earth.

PROTECTION OF THE FIRE-FIGHTERSBecause of the substances produced during thermal decomposition, use approved self-contained breathing equipmentand protective clothing in case of intervention.________________________________________________________________________________________________

    6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

    PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS

Avoid contact with eyes, the skin, and clothes: wear at least glasses and gloves.ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONSDo not allow the product to be thrown away. Recover as much as possible for processing within the firm or by anapproved centre (pH correction necessary).

METHODS FOR CLEANING UPWith water to remove all non-recoverable product. Before throwing rinsing water, check the pH is between 5.5 and 8.5.________________________________________________________________________________________________

    7 - HANDLING AND STORAGE

HANDLINGUse as supplied. Close containers (in PE) tightly after use with the original cap. Do not re-use containers with anotherproduct.

    STORAGE

Store in a room away from strong acids, metals and organic products. Keep in original containers only, between 5 and30C. The maximum recommended shelf life is three years from the date of manufacture under normal conditions ofstorage.________________________________________________________________________________________________

    8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION

EXPOSURE CONTROLS, TECHNICAL MEASURESNo drinking, eating or smoking on the workplace.Maintain the premises and the workstations in perfect state of cleanliness and clean them frequently. As the product is used at ambient temperature during a short time, the values below are generally not reached. Theydepend on the treatment time, the surface area treated and on the quality of the workshop air extraction.

PERSONAL PROTECTIONProvide a shower, a powerful tap and sink unit, and an eye basin near the workplace.- Respiratory protection: during brush electrolysis, provide if possible an inhaling of the vapours / sprays where they

are created and extraction out of the premises, or at least work in a ventilated room and wear if necessary a filteringFFP3 mask according to EN 149:2001 standard.

    - Hand protection: wear imperatively gloves (in latex or nitrile for example).- Eye protection: wear imperatively glasses with lateral protections or a facial screen. Do not wear contact lenses.- Skin protection: wear overalls and safety boots.________________________________________________________________________________________________

9 - PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

    - Appearance: colourless liquid- Odour: odourless.- pH: approximately 13.- Relative density: 1.05.- Solubility: miscible in water in all proportions.- Boiling point: approximately 100C.- Crystallisation / melting point: - 4C.- Flammability: no, but some reaction products, for example with metals, can be flammable (risk if formation of

hydrogen in a confined space).- Oxidising properties, risk of explosion or fire: no, or small risk, because the sodium hydroxide concentration is low.

    - Other properties: no.________________________________________________________________________________________________

    10 - STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

STABILITYGood at normal temperature with water evaporation for only risk.Good in humidity and light.

CONDITIONS TO AVOIDHigh temperatures: decomposition of some constituents from 150C.

MATERIALS TO AVOIDParticularly strong acids, unsaturated organic derivatives, nitroparaffins, chlorinated solvents like 1, 2- dichloroethyleneor trichloroethylene, chlorine, bromine and iodine. Some reactions may be strong, especially if the product has beenconcentrated or dehydrated.Weak action on metals: zinc, copper, lead, aluminium, tin, brass, bronze, because of the small concentration of soda.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTSLow evolution of hydrogen by action on some metals.Formation of polyacids from 150C and then of unsaturated anhydrides and carbon oxides. Formation of sodium oxidefrom 1250C.________________________________________________________________________________________________

    11 - TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

No data are available regarding the preparation. The evaluation of health hazards has been realised thanks todirectives 67/548/EC, 1999/45/EC and bibliographical data.

SKINCauses burns - the severity depends on the length of contact. Beware: the burning sensation is not immediate.

EYE MUCOSAProlonged contact may cause serious damage with possible aftereffects if rinsing is not immediately realized.

RESPIRATORY SYSTEMCauses burns (does not apply under normal conditions of use). Slightly irritant during electrolysis in case of a badinhaling of the vapours / sprays.

IN CASE OF INGESTIONCaustic damage to the digestive system with vomiting. According to the length of contact and to the swallowed quantity, complications may appear in the following days.

    OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES: no (in France).________________________________________________________________________________________________

    12 - ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

There are no ecological data on the preparation.Prevent any material from entering drains or waterways or earth .Dangerous to the aquatic environment owing to the alkaline pH.

    ECOTOXICITYBibliographic data concerning sodium hydroxide:- In solution (30 %): FISHES - LC50 (96 h) = 72 mg/L- Pure: FISHES - LC50 (96 h) = 125 mg/L, DAPHNIAS - EC50 (48 h) = 40 mg/L
