Report Cards Issued to Students

We Need Updated Contact Information! Remember: keep the main office updated regarding your contact information. Please don’t change your number or home address without letting us know.

It is very important that we can reach you in an emergency–for example, medical personnel (EMS) don’t like to handle minors unless a parent has given authority to do so. We also use our “robo-call” system to contact you in the case of an unexpected school closing due to weather or civil emergencies, etc. Maybe the school bus returned your child to school–we can’t call you to let you know your scholar is safe if we don’t have your current number.

Help keep our records up-to-date! Come into the office or simply send your change in writing with your child to school. Be sure to include your child’s name and your name on the message. We appreciate your help. Thanks. ###

from the desk of Nurse Robichaux, R.N., B.S.N

Summer is a great time to have your child’s medical needs addressed: dental, doctor, and immunizations!

Did you know May is Mental Health Awareness Month? Since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in the USA during May. The New Orleans Public Library’s Health Literacy Educator has partnered with community organizations to provide a variety of mental health-related programs. These programs are sponsored by the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library. Visit www.nopl.org for additional information regarding locations and times. ###

Do you have an 8th grader leaving us or a scholar who has outgrown their FCWCS uniform? We’re seeking male & female uniforms . . .

Used Uniform DriveKids outgrow uniforms, older students leave, headed to high school or parents move their homes to another community. All these examples will produce uniforms that can no longer be used at your child’s new school. Our counseling department will gladly take them off your hands and provide them with a new home!

We’ve had students to lose everything in a house fire, students who have arrived from out-of-town with literally just the clothes on their backs, kids have “accidents” at

school–there are zillions of reasons why we can always use spare uniforms.

As soon as they are not needed, bag them and send them to us (the school nurse, deans, counselors will accept them). We appreciate your kindness and so will the kid who is just trying to “fit in” as a Warrior!

P.S. Please come by and check out the Lost and Found. We’ve got coats, jackets, sweatshirts, glasses, etc.–all seeking their owners. All items will be donated to charity in June. ###

N E E D E D!

-3-

We would appreciate your donations of school uniforms your child can no longer

wear or will need. All sizes, male and female are needed. Thanks parents.

School Uniforms, NO Change for 2019-2020 Principal Batiste has informed the WN that current school uniforms will remain unchanged for the next school year, beginning August 2019. Parents can review the items needed on the school’s website, listing the official plaid (No. 88) for females and grey pants needed by male students. All students are required to follow the uniform policies. This is not considered an optional policy.

The entire uniform (sweaters, blouses and shirts with school emblems, etc.) can be

purchased at LOGO EXPRESS @ 3141 Gentilly Blvd., NOLA 70122 (866.665.2864). YOUNG FASHIONS @ 5700 Crowder Blvd., NOLA 70127 (504.841.0377) is a good option for bottoms–skirts, pants, jumpers (No. 88 plaid for girls) and grey slacks for boys.

All school blouses and shirts should bear the school’s current logo on the left side.

The school’s business office will continue to stock the durable sweatshirt with the new school logo on the front. ### Current school logo as

designed by Ms. T. Batiste.

FCWCS Parents/Guardians, lookin’ forward to seeing you at the . . . 2nd Annual

We’re hoping ALL our Warriors return next year. . . We are saving a seat for your son/daughter for the 2019-2020 school session! An Intent to Return Form has been sent home. Please return it as directed, filled out completely.

The main office will be open during the final weeks of May. Two (2) Proofs of Residency will be needed (Entergy bill, S & W Board bill, Cox bill–are examples of docs that prove your residency in Orleans Parish).

Remember, if you fill a OneApp to request another school, your seat at FCWCS will be considered vacant and may be given to another student, even if you change your mind or don’t receive the placement you were seeking.

Who needs OneApp? You should submit a OneApp if your scholar is: –NEW to New Orleans or new to public school education –Seeking to transfer from their current school to a new school for the 2019-2020 School Year –A transitional student, which means their current school does not offer their expected grade next year (all FCWCS 8th graders advancing to 9th grade/high school should have completed a OneApp and received a placement for next year). ###

We love our returning Warriors and we’re saving a seat for all who will be back next year! Remember to complete and return your Intent to Return Form as directed.

But, do you know a family seeking an educational home for their child(ren)? We’ve got a few spots open in various grades. The second round of OneApp is open. Please go to

https://enrollnola.org and follow the instructions. The second round is open April 29 - May 31.

Have you received placement at FCWCS for a new student for 2019-2020? Don’t forget to complete the registration process. Registration must be completed by Thursday, May 30, 2019. Report to FCWCS to complete a registration packet during these dates (this is for NEW students only).

May 20th - May 23rd May 28th - May 30th

Registration Hours: 9 am - 1 pm

Registration Documents Needed: • Current Id (Driver’s License or State ID) • 2 Proofs of Residency • Birth Certificate • Immunization Record • IEP/504 Information (if applicable) • Final Report Card*/Test Scores (PARRC/LEAP) *Not needed for Pre-K and Kindergarten students

When Staff Appreciation Week and PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & School Support) are celebrated in the same week, everybody wins–staff and students! What a great treat.

Finishing Strong . . . Sometimes a little one-on-one (above left and above) or working in a small setting is all that is needed to bring a smile or that ahhhhhh moment in education for students. Taken in May, these

pictures illustrate the hard work of our staff and our kids with exceptional needs. That’s Mrs. C. Obiago (above), Ms. Vickie McCoy (left) and a happy student from Mrs. V. Kiamco’s class.

Thanks! Pictures courtesy of Mrs. H. Grey.

These young men of the Black Men Rising Movement brought joy to the youngsters in Ms. Jordan’s music class

with their gifts of Easter baskets and candy. Way to go guys. Thanks for your generosity.

If you’re in Mrs. Tolliver’s or Ms. Singleton’s Pre-K classes you are on the go this time of the year. The Strawberry Patch was on the itinerary on April 9th. Sanai Durel’s Mom read the March/April 2019 issue of the Warrior News . . .

Did you read this issue of Warrior News? It was prepared especially for the parents and friends of FCWCS! Keep this copy all summer with all the important dates for the upcoming year. Sanai and her Mom are two of our faithful readers. Her entry was pulled from the bucket, making her a winner. She was able to choose a prize from Mrs. Batiste’s Treasure Chest, thus becoming our last winner for the 2018-2019 school year! See you in the September’s issue!

We ran this blurb in the last issue for 2018. We feel the same one year later, so . . .

Thanks to all who faithfully read the WN You make all our hard work and efforts worth the time and costs it takes to produce this newsletter. It is our way of communicating with you all the great things that happen on our campus! Each issue is like a time capsule of the previous month. Have you ever spotted your scholar in a picture? We hope so!

The WN is archived on the school’s website. Old copies from as far back as 2011 can be found in color! This issue marks the end of 12th year of publishing the Warrior News. –The Administration & Editor ###

Our Books Are Needed Back Home

Moms & Dads . . . Time to search the house and car for all those textbooks and library books that are anxious to come back to FCWCS! Please return them back “home” to Fannie C. for next year.

They are truly needed for 2019-2020. Students who owe for lost or damaged textbooks or library books will not receive their last report card.

Thanks!!! –The Administration
