Easy to Install, Easy to UseThe ST50 Flow Meter is an accurate, easy to install, no
moving parts solution for measuring and controlling air, com-pressed air or nitrogen flow. ST50 utilizes FCI proven thermaldispersion technology to provide direct mass flow measurementresulting in higher performance at a lower cost than orificeplates, DP, Vortex shedding and other thermal devices. Themeter installs in line sizes ranging from 2 inches to 24 inches[51 mm to 610 mm] with 1/2″ or 3/4″ NPT.
ST50 uses precision, lithography structured platinum RTDsensors embedded in FCI’s equal mass small diameter, all metalthermowells. Combined with microprocessor electronics andprecision calibration, the ST50 achieves excellent accuracy, fastresponse and virtually maintenance free operation.
To serve a variety of application and installation requirementsthe ST50 is available in three standard configurations as shownbelow. (Other display options are described in Accessory RemoteDigital Display section.)
To provide convenient and easy access for wire-up and sig-nal isolation, the instrument’s enclosure features dual conduitports in either NPT or M20 threads, as well as removable frontand rear covers. ST50 can be ordered for DC (18V to 36V) orAC (85V to 265V) power.
The ST50 is available with four calibration and final set-upselections. Two are standard calibrations suitable for finalranging and set-up in the field and two are for factory customcalibration with factory performed final ranging and set-up.All final set-up and flow ranges are subject to 100:1 maximumand 3:1 minimum turndowns.
Two standard calibrations include one for air or nitrogenflow rates between 1.25 SFPS to 125 SFPS [0.4 NMPS to 38NMPS] in service pressures between 10 psia to 50 psia [0.7bar(a) to 3.5 bar(a)] and one for compressed air, air ornitrogen flows between 4 SFPS to 400 SFPS [1.2 NMPS to 122NMPS] in service pressures between 50 psia to 165 psia [3.5bar(a) to 11.4 bar(a)]. All final user configurations for flow
range, specific line size, standard volumetric or mass flowand engineering units are easily set-up in the field with a PC,PDA or FC88 programmer.
Alternatively, custom factory calibration and set-up is avail-able for air or nitrogen with flow between 0.8 SFPS to 150 SFPS[0.2 NMPS to 46 NMPS] at service pressure between 10 psia to50 psia [0.7 bar(a)to 3.5 bar(a)] or compressed air, air ornitrogen flow between 2.5 SFPS to 400 SFPS [0.8 NMPS to 122NMPS] with service pressure between 50 psia to 165 psia [3.5bar(a) to 11.4 bar(a)]. Custom calibration applications are sub-ject to validation by FCI’s AVAL flow meter optimizer programand a submittal of a completed FCI Application Data Sheet.
Extensive Outputs Ensure Application CompatibilityThe ST50 includes dual 4-20mA analog outputs which
are field assignable as flow rate or temperature. Flow rate isselectable for reading in standard volumetric or mass flowengineering units. Optionally available as a third output, is a0-1000Hz pulse output of total flow.
In all models a standard RS232C serial I/O link is providedfor instrument configuration, service/troubleshooting data, andmeasured readings. Also included in all models is a wireless IRsensor to enable wireless connectivity to PDA devices.

Model DM10 is a LCD readout meter which can be inserted and located anywhere in the 4-20mA output loopfrom the ST50. It requires no separate power as it derives its power directly from the 4-20mA loop. Model DM15 is a high accuracy, 1/8 DIN panel mount, AC line powered meter with a bright red LED readout.It features a user scalable, ±9999 digit display and will accept both the 4-20 mA or 0-10 Vdc signals from the ST50.Optionally available with DM15 is a user programmable alarm setpoint with a Form C relay output.

Model DM20 is a miniature sized, totalizer counter that accepts the pulse output from the ST50. It features an 8-digit(0 to 99999999 counts) LCD that can be reset via its front-panel push-button. It is a panel-mount style that can be locatedin the field, in a separate enclosure or in the control room. It is self-powered by a lithium battery (included, 10 year life).

The Model ST51 Flow Meter is an accurate, easy to install, no moving parts solution for measuring and controlling biogases, digester gases, methane and natural gas flow. Model ST51 utilizes FCI proven thermal dispersion technology to provide direct mass flow measurement resulting in higher performance at a lower cost than orifice plates, DP, Vortex shedding and other thermal devices.
Biogas and digester gas applications are challenged by wide flow variations and dirty, wet gas. Flow variation is experienced as these processes move from low production start-up phases to a consistent, sustainable process and by seasonal temperature change, where cold temperatures slow gas production and higher temperature accelerate gas production. While the primary composition of these gases is methane and CO2, residual H2S and wet vapor leave deposits and corrode surfaces. ST51 provides the solution to these challenges. It features a wide-turndown ratio, up to 100:1 and is highly sensitive to low flow measurement. To measure correctly in fluctuating temperatures, flow meters must include temperature compensation circuitry and it is standard in ST51. ST51 has no moving parts to foul or clog and is easily pulled from the pipe for occasional cleaning.

Biogas, digester gas and landfill gas compositions are dominated by methane (CH4) and present a potentially hazardous installation environment. Sound engineering practice and often regulations mandate that instrumentation
meet guidelines and have agency approvals for installation zone safety. Depending on actual installation location, at a minimum the environment will require Class I, Division II and often a more rigorous Class I, Division I [Zone 1 II2GD Ex d IIC] approvals. FCI Model ST51 meets all of these and has obtained the global agency approvals that ensure your installation is always safe and complies with regulations. And, unlike manufacturers who merely provide their transmitter electronics in an approved OEM enclosure, FCI submits its entire instrument to agency testing. FCI product approvals are different because they are comprehensive system approvals that also take into account the sensor and seal requirements as well the “T” (temperature) ratings. FCI agency approvals are on the total instrument. With ST51 you are assured of the integrity of total instrument approvals that meet or exceed safe engineering practice for your applications.

Thermal dispersion provides a gas flow measuring solution that is easy to install and virtually maintenance-free to save you time and costs. It has no moving parts and is inher-ently multivariable, measuring both flow and temperature. Insertion styles are particularly well suited for larger line size applications because probe length and the number of sensors are easily and economically added. Thermal dispersion technology places two thermowell protected platinum RTD tempera-ture sensors in the process stream. One RTD is heated while the other senses the actual process temperature. The temperature differ-ence between these sensors is measured and is directly proportional to the mass flow rate of the fluid.

FCI liquid level and interface switches pro-vide fast responding and accurate fluid level alarm or setpoint control. They sense the tem-perature difference between a heated sensor and an unheated reference sensor, where the difference is greatest in the absence of liquid and decreases proportionally as the elements are submerged in various fluids with varying thermal conductivities. When submerged the heated sensor cools as it dissipates heat and in turn, a change in magnitude of the tem-perature difference. Because all fluids exhibit different heat transfer characteristics FCI’s highly sensitive level switch technology can detect historically difficult interface applica-tions between fluids such as liquids, gases, emulsions, slurries and foam, regardless of their physical properties.

Thermal Dispersion Flow MetersFCI offers the widest selection of thermal disper-sion technology flow meters to provide solutions for industrial measurement of air and virtually any gas. They are direct mass flow measuring that will save you cost and installation time over other flow devices, that require installation of additional temperature and/or pressure sensors to merely “infer” mass flow. The meters are inherently dual-function, flow and tempera-ture, to provide the lowest cost, best value for applica-tions where fluid temperature is also required. With no moving parts or orifices to clog, these FCI flow meters provide long-life with minimal maintenance.
There are eight core models with features, functions and packaging designed to optimize measurements in an array of applications and conditions. For line sizes greater than 2 inches [50 mm], FCI’s “insertion” styles provide the eco-nomical, easy-to-install solution via a single tap point. For smaller lines, 2 inches [50 mm] or smaller, select the “in-line” styles.
The ST50 and ST51 are compact and economical, yet full-featured insertion meters that are easy to install and specify. Model ST50 is designed for air, compressed air and nitrogen applications requiring Division 2 [Zone 2] or lower ratings. Model ST51 is
designed for biogas, digester gas and other meth-ane composition gases, or air and compressed air applications in Division 1 [Zone 1].
ST75 is a compact, in-line meter with extensive standard features that is the economical, easy-to specify alternative to other maintenance-intensive flow technologies.
ST75V includes built-in Vortab flow conditioners and has an extensive selection of process connec-tions, including flanges.

FCI Calibration EnsuresInstalled AccuracyAll FCI products are tested and calibrated to rigorous standards to ensure you get the instrument that does the job you specified. To design and produce the highest quality flow instrumentation, FCI operates a world-class, fully NIST traceable flow calibration labora-tory that is certified to meet such stringent standards as MIL-STD 45662A and ANSI/NCSL Z-540. Other suppliers are often limited to air and water calibrations then rely on un-validated theoretical equivalencies for other fluids. FCI has proven this procedure to
be inadequate and may result in installed errors well outside published specifications. For most fluids, FCI thermal dispersion flow meters are calibrated using the actual fluid, as well as the actual temperature and process conditions of your application. The result is a flow meter you can install with total confidence and assurance that it meets your application. For other suppliers to per-form an actual gas calibration equal to FCI’s, they typically must send their final product to an outside laboratory that will result in extra charges and shipment delays to you.
