Spring pressure adjuster : Adjusts the load balance of the tangential head in accordance
with the use of the tool holder or oscillation unit
Tangential heads (1 and 2) : Drives the cutting tool (or creasing tool) up and down. In the
figure above, tangential head 1 (T1) is shown at the right and
tangential head 2 (T2) at the left.
Tool holder : Holder used with the cutting tool (or creasing tool)
Oscillation unit (OT/O type only) : Unit that vibrates the cutter blade vertically for cutting
Stopper : Metal fixture that affixes the tool holder or oscillation unit to the
tangential head
Protective cover : Cover to prevent cutting injuries caused by the blade
CCD camera (optional) : Digital loupe to ensure precise alignment

Indicator Lamps
POWER : The POWER lamp remains lit (green) while the FC3600 is on.
PROMPT : The PROMPT lamp illuminates when the FC3600 receives data outside the effective
operating area.
Function Keys
F1 : When the FC3600 is paused, press the F1 key to select a function in MENU
mode. When the FC3600 is online, press F1 to select Cutter Conditions number
1. After pressing the CONDITIONS key, use F1 to adjust the cutting FORCE.
F2 : When the FC3600 is paused, press the F2 key to select a function in MENU
mode. When the FC3600 is online, press F2 to select Cutter Conditions number
2. After pressing the CONDITIONS key, use F2 to adjust the cutting SPEED.
F3 : When the FC3600 is paused, press the F3 key to select a function in MENU
mode. When the FC3600 is online, press F3 to select Cutter Conditions number
3. After pressing the CONDITIONS key, use F3 to adjust the cutting OFFSET.
F4 : When the FC3600 is paused, press the F4 key to select a function in MENU
mode. When the FC3600 is online, press F4 to select Cutter Conditions number
4. After pressing the CONDITIONS key, use F4 to adjust the cutting QUALITY.
POSITION Keys
Use the POSITION keys to change the setting values shown in various menu displays
or to move the tool head. When a POSITION key is initially pressed, the tool head
moves only the specified distance. If the key is held down, the tool head moves more
quickly.

Menu Keys
CONDITIONS key : For changing the cutting conditions shown on the FC3600 display panel
NEXT PAGE key : For proceeding to the next menu page in MENU mode when the FC3600 is paused.
PAUSE key : For pausing and entering MENU mode to set functions in various menus. Pressing
this key once pauses the display, as shown by a green indicator. Pressing it again
cancels MENU mode and turns off the indicator. If the FC3600 receives data after
this key is pressed, it will temporarily store the data in the data buffer.
ENTER key : Confirms and stores the selected settings. While the display is paused, the FC3600
can be reset by pressing the ENTER and ORIGIN keys simultaneously.
STOP key : Stops FC3600 operations
ORIGIN key : Changes the position of the coordinate system origin point
COPY key : Copies data stored in the data buffer for output
TEST key : For testing whether the cutting conditions are suitable for the medium. Also used for
testing following adjustment of the creaser or cutter blades.

(1) To keep the rail lubricated, fully slide the Y bar back and forth two or three times approximately every
two weeks.

Slide down the rear cover assembly and insert the M4L16 cap screw into the lowest hole on the side
plate to hang the rear cover assembly as shown below.
You do not need to hang the rear cover on units produced in October 2003 or later.

(5) Disconnect the cables protruding from the bottom of the rear cover from the main control box.
(6) Detach the rear cover assembly.

(1) If you are replacing the front X-belt, detach the front tray and the front top cover (see Subsections 7.1,
7.2).
If you are replacing the rear X-belt, detach the rear cover and the rear top cover (see Subsections 7.3,
7.4).
(2) Loosen the two M4L6 cap-screws attaching the X-idler pulley bracket.

7.8 How to Adjust the X-belt Tension
(1) If you are adjusting the front X-belt, detach the front under cover.
If you are adjusting the rear X-belt, detach the rear under cover.

(2) Loosen the two M4L6 cap screws attaching the X-tension bracket.

(3) Move the Y-bar to the end of the control panel side.
(4) Pull the X-belt 20 mm from the X-rail in the center of the X-belt using a force gauge with a wire.
The pull force should be 2.1 kg ±0.1 kg.
(5) Adjust the belt tension and alignment using the two M4L16 cap screws.
(6) Move the Y-bar though the entire area and make sure that the X-belt edge does not touch the X pulley
flange on the X-drive pulley. Adjust the two M4L16 cap screws attaching the X-idler pulley bracket to
align the X-belt to the X-idler pulley.
(7) Tighten the two M4L6 cap screws that hold the X-belt tension bracket.
(8) Spread a suitable quantity of screwlock adhesive 1401B on the two M4L6 cap screws and the two
M4L16 cap screws that hold the X-tension bracket.
(9) Reattach the other parts in the reverse order in which they were detached.

(1) Remove the six M4L14 cap screws attaching the linear guides and the Y-belt stopper.

(1) Remove the six M4L14 cap screws attaching the linear guides and the Y-belt stopper.

(5) Move the tool head to the end of the Y bar.
(6) Pull the Y-belt 5 mm from the Y-rail in the center of the Y-belt using a force gauge with a wire.
The pull force should be 158 g ±15 g.

(7) Loosen the four M4L6 cap screws attaching the Y-idler pulley bracket.

(8) Adjust the belt tension and alignment using the two M4L10 cap screws.
(9) Move the Y-belt though the entire area and make sure that the Y-belt edge does not touch the Y pulley
flange on the Y-idler pulley. Adjust the two M4L10 cap screws attaching the Y-belt tension bracket to
align the Y-belt to the Y-idler pulley.
(10) Tighten the two M4L6 cap screws that hold the Y-belt tension bracket.
(11) Spread a suitable quantity of screwlock adhesive 1401B on the two M4L6 cap screws and the two
M4L16 cap screws that hold the Y-belt tension bracket.
(12) Reattach the other parts in the reverse order in which they were detached.

7.11 How to Adjust the X-drive Belt Tension
(1) Remove the four M4L8 binding head screws attaching the left top cover.

(3) Push the X-drive belt 3 mm using a force gauge.
The push force should be 550 g ±50 g.

(4) Push the X-drive belt 5 mm using a force gauge.
The push force should be 1.3 kg ±0.1 kg.

(7) Reattach the left top cover in the reverse order in which it was detached.

(1) Remove the four M4L6 TP head screws attaching the bottom Y-motor cover.

8.2 ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENTS
8.2.1 Updating the System Firmware
To update the system firmware you need to have the following files. In addition, you need to use a computer
and USB cable.
• FC36_vxxx :firmware
• OPS628 :Driver software for plotters (If you update via the USB port)
• SEND.EXE :Utility to transfer files using Windows®
How to update the system firmware
Updating via the Centronics port
(1) Connect the computer and the plotter via the Centronics port.
(2) Turn on the power while pressing the RIGHT ARROW and the LEFT ARROW position keys to display
the menu shown below.

8.2.2 Clearing the Non-Volatile RAM
When you replace the main board, you must clear the Non-Volatile RAM (NOV-RAM).
If you clear the Non-Volatile RAM, you will lose the setup parameters for each adjustment.
Input the adjustment values to the main board after you clear the Non-Volatile RAM.
How to clear the Non-Volatile RAM.
(1) Set the DIP switch to the NOV-RAM clear mode as shown below.

(2) Turn on the power to the plotter.
(3) The NOVRAM INIT. menu appears. The plotter immediately starts to clear the parameters on NOV-RAM,
and then sets the default values.

8.2.3 Setting the Model Suffix
This will set the model suffix for the plotter.
If you clear the Non-Volatile RAM, this setting menu will be displayed when you turn the plotter power on
again.

8.2.4 Sensor Test Mode
This mode checks the sensor status.
How to test the sensors
(1) Disconnect connector J1 on the X-relay board (PR261207x) and connector J1 on the Y-relay board
(PR261202x).
(2) Set the DIP switch to the sensor test mode as shown below.

(4) Move the Y-bar to the far left. When the Y-bar reaches the X-home position flag, the status of X changes
from “1” to “0”.
(5) Move the tool head to the far rear. When the tool head reaches the Y-home position flag, the status of Y
changes from “1” to “0”.
(6) Rotate tool holder No.1 or No.2. When the tool holder reaches the home position flag, the status of R1 or
R2 changes from “1” to “0”.
(7) Raise tool holder No.1 or No.2. When the tool holder reaches the Z-home position flag, the status of Z1
or Z2 changes from “1” to “0”.
(8) When testing is complete, turn off the power to the plotter.
(9) Connect connector J1 on the X-relay board (PR261207x) and connector J1 on the Y-relay board
(PR261202x).
(10) Return the DIP switch setting to the normal mode for each model (see subsection 8.3 “Factory presets”).

8.2.5 Control Panel Membrane Switch Test Mode
This mode checks the control panel membrane switch status. If there is a bad switch you may have trouble
with the control panel membrane switch panel or the control panel relay board.
How to test the control panel membrane switches
(1) Set the DIP switch to the control panel key test mode as shown below.

8.2.6 Adjusting the Pen Force
This adjustment will set the pen force.
If you replace the main board or clear the Non-Volatile RAM, use the following procedure to input the
recorded adjustment values.
If you replace the moving coil and/or the pen block assembly, you must adjust the pen force using the
following procedure.
How to adjust the pen force
(1) Have ready three Colex force gauges (500 gf, 300 gf, 50 gf) and a 0.9 mm cutter pen.
(2) Mount the 0.9 mm diameter cutter pen in the pen holder.
(3) Set the DIP switch to the adjustment mode as shown below.

(8) The pen is lowered. If you have replaced the moving coil and/or the pen block assembly, use the force
gauge to measure the actual force. If you have only replaced the main board, input the adjustment
values that were recorded.
Use the F1 key to F4 key to change the force setting. The number on the LCD will increase or decrease.
If you have replaced the moving coil and/or the pen block assembly, measure the actual pen force again.
If you replaced the moving coil and/or the pen block assembly, adjust the 24g-pen force. If the measured
value is within the specification range (23g to 25g) or if you have input the recorded value, press the
ENTER key to store the setting. The next specified pen force appears.

(9) Adjust the 210g-pen force. If the measured value is within the specification range (200g to 220g) or if
you have input the recorded value, press the ENTER key to store the setting. The next specified pen
force appears.
(10) Adjust the 400g-pen force. If the measured value is within the specification range (380g to 420g) or if
you have input the recorded value, press the ENTER key to store the setting.
(11) When the adjustment is complete, turn off the power to the plotter.
(12) Return the DIP switch setting to the normal mode for each model (see subsection 8.3 “Factory presets”).

This adjustment will set the distance accuracy.
If you replace the main board or clear the Non-Volatile RAM, use the following procedure to input the

(1) Mount a ceramic pen (0.2 mm tip size) in the pen holder.
(2) Load a sheet of A1 size paper in the plotter.
(3) Set the DIP switch to the adjustment mode as shown below.

(8) Remove the paper and measure the X-axis distance, Y-axis distance and the diagonal distance. If you
have replaced the main board only, use the recorded values.
(9) Input the axis adjustment values using the F1 to F4 keys.
Press the F1 or F2 key to change the X-axis adjustment value.
Press the F3 or F4 key to change the Y-axis adjustment value.
The formula of the input value is as follows:
Input value for X-axis = (500 mm - measured distance) x 10
Input value for Y-axis = (700 mm - measured distance) x 10
For example:
If you measured 499.7 mm for the X-axis, input 3 for the adjustment value.
Press the F1 key to select +0.1-mm steps.
(10) Press the ENTER key to display the menu shown below.

If the measured value is within the displayed L value of the specification range (±0.1 mm) or if you have
input the recorded value, press the ENTER key to store the setting.
(12) The following menu appears.

(13) If you have changed the diagonal distance value, confirm the axis distance.
Load a new sheet of paper and press the F4 key to draw the adjusted test pattern.
Measure each distance. If the measured values are within the specification range, press the ENTER key
to store the setting.
Specification range for the X distance = 500 mm ±0.2 mm.
Specification range for the Y distance = 700 mm ±0.2 mm.
Specification range for the diagonal distance = within 0.1 mm from the displayed L value.
If the measured value is out of the specification range, adjust again from step (7).
(14) When the adjustment is complete, turn off the power to the plotter.
(15) Return the DIP switch setting to the normal mode for each model (see subsection 8.3 “Factory presets”).
