2 General description
FC E1/T1 transmission unit operates as the termination point in a star or chaintopology network.
2.1 Features
The main features of the FC E1/T1 transmission unit are
• one Abisline interface tothe 2 Mbit/s (E1) or 1.5 Mbit/s (T1) transmissionline
• operates as the termination point in a chain or star configuration
• the balanced interface can be configured to E1 or T1 mode
• interface statistics gathered in compliance with ITU-T G.826 and ANSIT1.403 Recommendations
• handling of timeslot 0 at 2 Mbit/s interfaces. The 2 Mbit/s E1frame/multiframe structure complies with ITU-T G.704/706Recommendations
• transmitting and receiving functions at the 2 Mbit/s interfaces (HDB3 linecoding, clock recovery, AIS detection etc.) and at the 1.5 Mbit/s interfaces(B8ZS line coding, clock recovery, AIS detection etc.)
• easy management of settings and transmission configurations bothremotely and locally, using the Nokia Q1 management protocol. Themanagement is carried out using a Nokia NMS-compatible node managersoftware.
• multiple Q1 management connections can be active simultaneously
• support for Nokia Autoconfiguration which eases and speeds up the setupand commissioning of the BTS and the whole base station system (BSS )network

2.2 Main blocks
FC E1/T1 units are encased plug-in units constructed on a printed circuit board.
The unit connects to other units in the base station cabinet via its backplaneconnectors, so it does not require any additional cabling except the line interfacecables.
Figure 2. FC E1/T1 functional diagram
The state of the incoming line signal is monitored in the transmission unit. If theline signal switches into an error state, the unit indicates the fault.

3 Interface description
On its front panel, the FC E1/T1 has two unbalanced connectors (separate Tx andRx connectors) for the 75 ohm E1 interface.
The Tx and Rx connectors are connected to each other with a grounding bridge.By removing the grounding bridge, the direct grounding of the Rx connector’souter conductor can be changed from direct grounding to capacitive grounding.
There is also one balanced connector, which can be configured to be a 120 ohmE1 interface or 100 ohm T1 interface. The balanced connector offers both the Txand Rx direction. The pin order and pin configuration of the balanced TQconnector are presented in Figure 3.
