In the belief that the Panzerdivision could turn the tide against the Red Army as it stormed westward, the Germans formed Panzerkorps designed to counterattack the spearheads of advancing Soviet armour. The concept grew out of General der Panzertruppen von Saucken’s and Feldmarschal Model’s efforts to create the semblance of a front line using Sperrverband and Kampfgruppen fortified by a Panzerdivision. These Panzerkorps, because of the ever dwindling manpower of Germany, became the last efforts of the dying Nazis’ regime to defend the fatherland.

After the attempt on Hitler’s life in July, 1944, the Heer fell out of favour with the Fuhrer. Most of the remaining armour production and manpower priorities went to outfitting the three SS-Panzerkorps. Even so, there was still considerable

General der Panzertruppen von Saucken is mounted in a Sd Kfz 250 half-track. He is a Warrior and a Higher Command SMG team rated as Fearless Veteran. Von Saucken may join a 4. Panzerdivision, 5. Panzerdivision or 19. Panzerdivision company for +65 points.

CounterAttACk expert

Von Saucken was repeatedly called upon by Der Führer to prevent Soviet breakthroughs with thrown together forces. Von Saucken’s proven ability to organize and launch mobile counterattack became his forte, having demonstrated his tactical skill many times on the Eastern Front.

All platoons within Command Distance of von Saucken may reroll any failed Skill Tests to make Stormtrooper moves.

Von Saucken‘s keen tactical abilities and strong leadership skills provided his forces the opportunities to provide decisive force when needed to stop Soviet spearheads. Time and again, across the Eastern Front, von Saucken’s units managed to apply the right force at the right point in meeting Soviet advancing formations.

Each turn von Saucken may re-roll one die rolled to receive Reserves for his company.

As commander of Kampfgruppe von Saucken and later the XXXIX. Panzerkorps, General der Panzertruppen von Saucken was still available to provide his expertise to the divisions under his command.

power left in the remaining armour divisions of the Heer. These divisions were combined into Panzerkorps and readily used as the fire brigades in the German attempts to stem the tide of Allied incursions towards the Reich.

Four of these armoured divisions, 4. Panzerdivision, 5. Panzerdivision, 16. Panzerdivision and 19. Panzerdivision, became the backbone of the Heer units committed in defending Poland against the Soviet onslaught from the East. Across the entire line of the Vistula River, these four armoured divisions fought to the death with advancing Soviet armour exacting a heavy toll on the Soviet Army in tanks and manpower.

With the Wehrmacht (German Army) now almost perpetu-ally on the defensive, the Panzerdivision is now solely used as a fire brigade to stop the ever advancing Allied armies. While make-shift infantry formations scramble to build a coherent defence, the panzers have become the counterattacking force to fill the breeches in the lines.

The Panzertruppen of the 4., 5. 16. and the 19. Panzerdivision have fought as far and wide as France, Italy, and Russia. Four years of combat have thinned their ranks but not their guile. A Panzerkamfgruppe is rated as Confident Veteran.

The Panzerpionier Platoon performs a critical need in the Panzerkompanie. Keeping the way clear for your panzers to reach the enemy’s breakthrough will increase the impact of your counterattack.

Use the engineering prowess of the Pioneer to clear obstacles while keeping enemy sappers away from your line of advance. Though small in numbers their presence can prove critical when timing determines success.

Walküre platoons provide excellent infantry reinforcements for developing a coherent defence against an advancing mechanised enemy. Arriving fully combat equipped, they can easily be integrated into existing formations to form a ready defence.

Though fielded as full companies they were generally sup-ported by more veteran formations. This allowed for a quick development of a solid defence backed by crack combat veterans able to stop, hold, and then counterattack enemy incursions.

A 4. Panzerdivision Panzerkampfgruppe may take a Walküre Platoon as a support platoon.

Rocket support in the form of the 15cm NW41 rocket launcher provides extremely effective artillery fire on any advancing enemy infantry.

They are particularly effective when they can catch the enemy in the open. Their continuous bombardment can break the back of an assault leaving the few remaining survivors to be eliminated by your machine-guns or dug-in infantry.

Increasing the number of launchers to your batteries enhances their destructiveness. This can provide the firepower support essential to halting large Soviet assault battalions.

Like the Soviet Katyusha rocket launchers, Panzerwerfer 42 rocket launchers are ready to signal the beginning of the offensive. Very little can withstand the fury of a full Panzerwerfer battery!

Panzerwerfer crews would fire a bombardment and then quickly redeploy their vehicles to avoid counter battery fire from enemy artillery.

When an Armoured Rocket Launcher Battery successfully rolls a Stormtrooper move, it also removes any smoke trails associated with the battery.

Mobile rocket launchers address the main vulnerability of the near stationary NW41 rocket launcher. They can provide the same devastating support while allowing you to move them rapidly away from immediate counterbattery fire. This survivability provides you the means to provide continuous support without the fear of immediate enemy retaliation.

The Soviets have learned to respect this weapon and will often go out of their way to avoid it. This anti-aircraft weapon has proved its most devastating when well positioned in defensive positions with good fields of fire. They are often able to halt a Soviet armoured assaults before they have barely begun.

A Heavy Anti-aircraft Gun Platoon is rated Confident Veteran.

A Luftwaffe Heavy Anti-aircraft Gun Platoon is rated Reluctant Trained.

Add Kfz 15 field car and 3-ton trucks for +5 points for the platoon.

Replace all trucks with RSO tractors at no cost.

Field anti-aircraft guns to protect your soft rear-area assets from enemy fighter bombers. This point defence is best ac-complished when your guns are in fortified positions.

They also afford some protection against enemy reconnais-sance and infantry platoons. A high rate of fire can effectively clear the skies of aircraft or brings much needed direct fire support for your defending infantry.

Light Anti-aircraft Gun Platoons are Luftwaffe FlaK troops and are rated Reluctant Trained.

As more and more Luftwaffe assets were released to the German Army for defence, the FlaK Nest became an excel-lent complement to a static defensive positions. It’s ability to defend against light armour and infantry and still hold the ‘Jabos’ at bay provided a flexible response to advancing enemy forces.

Though immobile, its heavy bunkering kept it safe from all but the highest calibre guns. Additionally the high rate of fire of the quad 20mm guns delivers a devastating attack on armoured transports and assaulting infantry.

Anchoring your defence around a few FlaK Nest gives the enemy a tough nut to crack. Overlapping fire of two or more FlaK Nest can halt even the largest Soviet assault formations.

flAk neStS in your CompAny

Placing 2cm FlaK 38 anti-aircraft guns at roof top level in local houses gave them cover and concealment while still being able to fire as anti-aircraft and anti-person-nel weapons. This was especially effective against Soviet aircraft and advancing Red Army infantry.

The Germans generally built their FlaK Nests in abandoned buildings, filling up the areas below and around the Flak Nest with rubble to prevent collapse, increase survivability and to limit entry. FlaK Nests are therefore open bunkers and not buildings and cannot be entered by any team.

You can either model your FlaK Nest on ground level or as a single story building with a base size equal to an Artillery base. If it is destroyed it becomes a destroyed bunker and is Impassable terrain.

flAk neStS SpeCiAl ruleS

You must place FlaK Nests in your deployment area before any objectives are placed. FlaK Nests follow the rules for Bunkers (page 210 in the rulebook) in all respects, except FlaK Nests:

Have a 360 degree field of fire.Cannot be placed within 8 “/20cm of another bunker or FlaK Nest.

SHootinG At flAk neStS

Roll a Skill Test to hit a FlaK Nest at less than 16”/40cm range.Roll a Firepower Test to Pin Down the FlaK Nest.

When a hit Pins Down a FlaK Nest, the shooting player immediately makes a second Firepower Test for the shooting weapon:

A successful test will Destroy the FlaK Nest. A failed test leaves the FlaK Nest Pinned Down, but otherwise unharmed.

However, guns with the No HE attribute cannot Destroy a FlaK Nest.
