fbh1510 hood hinge installation instructions
TRANSCRIPT
1. Although our hinges are marketed as an easy install, Fesler Billet strongly
recommends that you have these hood hinges installed by a professional to
avoid the possibility of damaging your vehicle.
2. Fesler Billet is not responsible for customer applications that are outside the
normal and intended use of our products, including specific model and year
applications.
3. Fesler Billet designs hood hinges off original OEM applications. Due to the vast
array of manufacturers for aftermarket parts, it is possible that you may have to
open up your bolt holes in the sheet metal to accommodate the new hinge
application.
4. Due to the vast array of manufacturers for aftermarket parts, and the fact that
you are dealing with a vehicle that is well over 40 years old and has more than
likely seen several owners, you must assume that your “original” hood is no
longer original. Things like braces, paint and bondo significantly add to the
weight of any hood, therefore drastically affecting the strength of our hood
supports.
5. A common problem occurs with hinge installation when the mounting surface on
the inner fender is bent or out of alignment (pulled out or pushed in at one or
both mounting holes). If this is the case, the mounting holes will not line up
correctly with the hinge. To correct this, double check your inner fender mounting
positions by holding a straight edge against the two mounting holes on the inner
fender. If there is a gap between the straight edge and the sheet metal, the
mounting surface is bent or out of alignment.
6. *Some applications are not designed to work with your factory inner fenders.
Please check to see if your vehicle falls under this category before installing
hinges. Fesler Built is not responsible for damage to inner fenders on these
applications.
7. Depending on your hood manufacturer, you may need a shorter bolt when
attaching the hinge to the hood. Check length before tightening making sure to
look for dimpling.
8. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DISASSEMBLE THESE HINGES.
Doing so will void your warranty. You may not return hinges that have been
disassembled for any reason. We will be able to tell if you have disassembled
hinges upon their return and you will not be granted a refund if this is so.

3. Inspect factory bolt holes in fender and test thread with new bolts.
a. Note: If existing bolt holes have damaged threads or rust,
you may have to re-tap them.
4. BEFORE installing your
hinges on your vehicle, first
install the stainless steel
gas spring to each hinge.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT
YOU INSTALL THE
SPRING WITH THE
SHAFT FACING THE
REAR OF THE CAR TO
ENSURE PROPER
OPERATION AND
PREVENT FAILURE.
5. Position each hinge on the corresponding fender and attach
using the supplied 3/8” x 1 1/4 ” socket head bolts, each with one
AN washer. Tighten bolts snug so they are securely attached to

button head bolts, each one
with a flat washer + a AN

a. Note: Be sure to use
anti-seize on all bolts
before installing
7. To avoid hitting your cowl when closing the hood for the first time,
slide the hood as far forward as possible before closing. Close
hood carefully making sure it does not hit the fenders or cowl.
8. Check the height and position and make any adjustments by
repositioning the hinge slightly at the hood or fender locations.
9. Once hood position has
been set, tighten all bolts,
remove tape and go.
10. Be sure to check and
tighten ALL BOLTS (including assembly bolts if necessary) every
few months to avoid loosening, which is often caused by normal
use.
QUICK NOTE
Depending on your hood
manufacturer, you may need a
shorter bolt when attaching the
hinge to the hood. Check length
before tightening making sure to
look for dimpling. Do not tighten
bolts yet, you will have to maneuver
the hinges and hood in order to get
a proper fit.
