TAYETTEVTLLE, NQBt.- Dr.- Garland Knott, a native of New Albany, Kiss, and

chaplain of Methodist College here, will address the North Carolina

Conference of The United Methodist Church, June 6 at the college.'

Dr. Knott will be speaking on behalf of the deaconess board of the

conference. His address, "She Could Write a Book," is about the career of

Miss Cora Lee Glenn who served as a deaconess in Tishominero County, Miss.

from 1951-57 and is now assigned to work-, in Kurphreesboro, Tenn.

of education at Wood Junior College, 1962-66j "sinister of Christian education

at the First Congregational Church in Braintree, Mass., 1960-62; and pastor of

FAYKTTEYILLE - The Executive Committee of the"Methodist College Board of Trustees

Wednesday adopted the 1968-69 operating "budget of $2,051i,208»00, according to

Dr. L. Stacy Weaver, president of the college,

This is an increase of 1371,119.00 ever the budget for the nrevious year.

"This sharp increase in the operating -costs of the college," Dr. Weaver ,

said, "reflects the general rise in costs in all areas of our economy. The

college is not immune to these.'1

The Board also adopted a capital budget of t>227,53lj.68. Of the capital

budget t-132,589.68 is mandatory; the remainder is aporoved' contingent upon the

availability of funds.

An analysis of the'budget shows that'$70,31*1.66 of the csnital.budget and

$£0f000.00 of the operating budget is expected to come from the Fayetteville .

Foundation, Total, anticipated revenue from the Fayetteville Foundation is

$120,31*1.68.

The North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church is expected to

provide $163,500.00 for the operating bu 'get and an additional amount for the

capital budget.

has never had an operating deficit since its doors were opened. This careful

management of its resources has enabled the college to remain a viable institution,"

"If this sound basis of operation is to be maintained," he stressed, "it

college does not have, as do public institutions, tax support to enable it to

meet unforeeeen circumstances."

NATIONAL METHODIST SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS cover tuition and fees up to $500 and

are granted on the basis of superior academic standing, leadership ability,

active churchmanship, character, personality and need.

About 500 such awards are given annually by the Methodist Board of Education

and its nationwide scholarship program. More than 9,000 National Methodist

Scholarships have been granted since the program was started in 1945.

Funds for the support of National Methodist Scholarships are received from

local Methodist churches on the basis of a church-wise offering on Methodist

Student Day, the second Sunday in June.
