The F&BV CDT Annual Fair Day will be a bit different this year and we hope the day is as much fun as usual!

For more information about this year’s event at Eastfield Development Centre, please contact Lesley or one of the F&BV CDT team on 01501 773 699 or email [email protected]

This year the event will take place at Fauldhouse’s much loved Eastfield Development Centre on Saturday 7 September between 11am and 2pm. The event will take place both inside and out (weather permitting... please keep your fingers crossed!).

If you haven’t visited Eastfield Development Centre recently, this is a chance to see the improvements that the Trust have made to the building and that West Lothian Council have made to the football pitch and outside space.

At the Fauldhouse Annual Fair Day, there will be a music tent with performances by upcoming artists, bouncy castles and giant games, face painting, entertainers, information stalls, crafts, prizes, workshops, snacks and refreshments. There will also be trishaw taster rides, bike workshop and displays from local groups and we hope the Fire Service can bring along one of their appliances. The Salvation Army will bring their food van along, St Andrew’s Church are joining us to do kid’s cake decorating and Sheephouse Nursery will also be providing children’s activities.

We would be absolutely delighted if you could come along and join the fun! I’m sure you’ll agree, it should be a great family friendly event.

Fauldhouse faces Peter Lynch Memorial Match

In May, the Georgie Sneddon Memorial Trophy was presented to this year’s winners Golf Club A. Defending champions Commercial A were runners up. Thanks to Jim Steele for his selection of challenging questions and to Greenburn Golf club for their hospitality .

The annual SOBS/TBS fundraising concert in the Miners Welfare club took place during the May holiday weekend. Des Murphy has enjoyed the incredible journey and with the help of Bowser, Tim and Francie has raised a fantastic £55,000 over the past ten years.

On behalf of the organisers, Des takes this opportunity to thank you, the audience of nearly 3,000 for your continued enthusiastic support and donations. Thanks also to the event volunteers, the Welfare Club committee and of course the numerous list of first class entertainers.

The support for the charity was given recognition in the Scottish Parliament.

Gala Day quiz night fundraiser

Margaret Lynch and family members Kieran, Katie and Karen with Team manager Jon Connolly.Margaret presented The Peter Lynch Memorial Trophy to winners Shotts Bon Accord of the annual friendly between Fauldhouse United and Shotts Bon Accord in July.

Marathon men!

Five locals with a combined age of 305 completed a marathon to raise funds for the F&BV CDT to help with the maintenance of the trishaw. £776 was raised, so well done to Royce Graham, Gary Greenhorn, Perry Murdoch, Stephen Ferry and Dave Huddlestone. Thanks for all your efforts!

Donations to groups

Original walking group?Currently the Fauldhouse Footers walking group leave from The Hub on a Thursday morning at 10am. Their walks are local, are moderate and suit most abilities. Fauldhouse local, Albert Mancini handed a couple of photographs into The Hub which looks like another walking group from Fauldhouse. By the way they are dressed, they look like an adventurous bunch.Do you know anything about this group or when/where these photographs may have been taken?I wonder where they were off to?

Dial-A-Ride and Dial-A-Bus services Do you struggle to get to the shops? Do you struggle to access public transport? Would you like a service that picks you up from home and takes you where you need to be, but on a more affordable basis than taxis?

HcL Transport is a local charity that runs vital transportation services for people with mobility challenges in West Lothian. We run two services that help the elderly, people of any age with disabilities or Additional Support Needs or are affected by geographic remoteness that makes public transport very difficult or impossible to use. The services are also available to those who need help short-term eg while waiting for and following surgery such as a knee replacement or hip replacement.

Dial-A-Bus runs a service to The Centre, Asda Livingston and Morrisons Livingston every weekday from different areas across West Lothian; Tuesdays we go to Tesco, Bathgate. On Fridays

we go to Tesco, Bathgate; Morrisons, Bathgate and Tescos, Linlithgow. New passengers can have their first Dial-A-Bus ride for free. A return journey is £3.80. So why not give the service a try? To book call 01506 633 336.

The service is not just transportation, it is a door-through-door service which means the driver can help you from inside your home/outside your home to your destination. If you go shopping the driver will take your shopping onto the bus for you and then into your home (if you wish). All buses are fitted with wheelchair tie downs so can carry two wheelchairs on board with passengers not needing to get out of their wheelchair. The driver can help you get onto the bus, any walking aid and shopping/possessions.

Dial-A-Ride can take you wherever you need to get to. Journeys are varied and based on where you want to go - medical appointments, meeting friends, visiting family, shops, a concert, cinema or theatre, Waverley or Edinburgh Airport or even for a day trip. New passengers get £5 off their first booking. To book or find out more call 01506 633 953.

We’re looking for info about the building F&BV CDT are looking for information about The Hub building from you, the Fauldhouse community.

The Trust have been here since 2011, after renovating the interior of the building to become The Hub as we know it. It was opened on 12 May 2011 by Isobel McKnight, in memory of Wullie McKnight, founding Director of Fauldhouse Community Development Trust.

We know the building was built in 1903 (we are pretty confident about this as it says so on the front). We think it may have been a butcher’s premises at some point and know it was formerly West Lothian Council’s Rent Office. The odd person still comes in to ask housing related questions. Apart from that – we don’t know huge amounts. It must be one of the older buildings in the village. We thought, ‘Who better to ask, than the people of Fauldhouse themselves!’

If you know anything about The Hub, 10 Main Street could you please share with us. We would be interested in its history, any stories or memories you have. Pop into see us, call us on 01501 773 699 or email us at [email protected]

Ailsa Magnus and Billy Caulfield have been commissioned to undertake the Fauldhouse Mining Tribute Sculpture Project.Over the past few weeks they have been visiting various community groups introducing themselves and raising awareness of the project.

They have spent time gathering reference material and speaking to key members of the community as part of their research.

Ailsa has 25 years experience delivering similar projects throughout the UK. Billy is a multi-media artist and has worked on numerous projects throughout Scotland. Their combined skills and knowledge will bring something unique and memorable to Fauldhouse.

They have recently delivered a series of creative workshops to engage with the community. Through consultation with ex-miners and their families they intend to create a lasting legacy for the community of Fauldhouse.

Mining Tribute Sculpture Project Workshops

Have your say on the future of the Eastfield Development CentreSince 2017, Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Community Development Trust has been managing the Eastfield Development Centre on Eastfield Road.

The Centre is currently being used by several local groups, but we are aware that it has the potential to offer much more to the community. We want to invest in improvements that will make the Eastfield Development Centre into a more welcoming, functional and accessible space for everyone. Owning the building will help us find the funding to do this.

We will only do this if the community wants it, if it will make a difference and be financially viable. To ensure that this is the case, we want to ask your views. Please take a few minutes to complete our short survey which is available at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Eastfield-Centre. If you would

prefer to complete this survey on paper, you can pick up a copy from the Eastfield Development Centre, 2 Eastfield Road or from The Hub at 10 Main Street, Fauldhouse. If you have any queries or are a group interested in hiring the Eastfield Development Centre please contact Paul Renwick by e-mail at [email protected] or by calling 01501 773 699.

ExchangesSewing machine repair workshop

Timebank exchanges take place regularly and vary from one to another. From individual to group and organisational exchanges. We recently had a request to check the electrics and put a plug on an older sewing machine. Timebank member Dave worked his magic, discovered the electrics were American and repaired! Thanks to people giving their time, this Singer sewing machine, which holds lovely memories and sentimental value is now working again. It’s the little things that can make a difference!

Time to celebrateSome of our fabulous volunteers and timebank members enjoyed an afternoon of thanks at West Lothian Volunteer Network’s Volunteer Celebration 2019. Feedback from those who attended the event said, “It was a lovely afternoon and great to see so many volunteers from different organisations giving their time to help others”.

If you want to see more pictures from the day look at #WLVN www.facebook.com/WestLothianVN/

Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Timebank

Another timebank member gave his time to repair and service sewing machines during our repair workshop. We had very old machines as well as new machines and a challenging over-locker. John was fantastic! He repaired, serviced and gave helpful instruction and advice to everyone that attended. We had a lovely evening chatting while enjoying our donated pie and beans followed by cake and a cuppa.

Thank you to all who participated. Keep sewing!
