Product Stewardship Summary
Fatty Acid Amine Condensates
Chemical Identity and Synonyms Fatty acid amine condensate
The chemical identity of this material is considered proprietaryinformation
Physical Chemical Properties
Hazy, amber, clear liquid
Musty odor
Completely soluble in water pH of 11
Nalco Products EC3031A, EC1021A, EC3031W, EC1020A, EC5301A (This list only
represents the products with the highest sales volume that contain thisspecific material)
Approximately 25% of the material is sold in 55-gallon drums and 75% issold in 265-gallon totes.
Product Uses The primary use of this chemistry is as a corrosion filmer. A filmer forms
a protective layer on metal equipment that repels corrosive attack by acids.
This material is also used in various chemical processes as an antifoulant. An antifoulant is a chemical additive, typically added in extremely low
dosages, that prevents the deposition of foulant material in chemicalprocess streams. Foulant is undesirable because when it lays down on
heat transfer surfaces, it acts as an insulator, which requires more heat tobe put into the system and thus increasing costs. Foulant can also cause
significant damage when it lays down in certain process locations.Chemical producers want to limit the amount of foulant that deposits
during a run length. When chemical producers have to stop productionbecause of the need to clean deposited foulant, it costs them significant
amounts of money due to lost production.
Chemical Related Health Information
This material is corrosive. Tissue damage may occur if material is placedonto skin, into eyes or inhaled.

Aside from being corrosive, this material has low systemic toxicity whenswallowed or if it absorbed through the skin.
This material does not cause damage to genetic material (DNA).
Chemical Related Environmental Information Material is very highly toxic to algae
Material is highly toxic to freshwater fish and to saltwater invertebrates
Material is moderately toxic to saltwater fish and freshwater invertebrates
Material was practically non-toxic to quail
U.S. EPA software estimates this material to be biodegradable and it is notpredicted to bioaccumulate.
Chemical Exposure Potential
Engineering controls are in place at Nalco facilities to reduce exposures of
this material to employees, stakeholders, and the environment. During manufacture the raw materials used are transferred in closed lines
directly from their tanks to the processing reactor. Thus, minimizing
operator exposure from open containers and transfers.
The material is not released to the air.
The packaged products are warehoused and any spills in the warehouse
that are not immediately contained, naturally drain to our process waterwaste treatment. The spilled material is then segregated to different tanks
for disposal or treatment, depending on the severity of the spill. Alltreated wastewater is monitored and analyzed continually for compliance
with state and local regulation.
The material is used in industrial applications and potential exposure islimited to those individuals working at the facility. It is not used in
consumer applications, and is generally used in closed systems.
In order to prevent skin exposures to this material it is suggested thatworkers wear a chemical apron or full slicker suit, along with impervious
gloves and boots.
In order to prevent eye exposures to this material, a face shield withchemical splash goggles are recommended.
Chemical Risk Mitigation
Risk is measured as a function of hazard and exposure. This material hashigh hazards for both humans and the environment based on the corrosive
nature of the material and its high toxicity in the aquatic environment.
When handled properly, utilizing appropriate personal protectionequipment (PPE), potential exposure to this material is significantly
reduced.

Under normal conditions of anticipated use and when used withappropriate handling procedures and PPE, the overall potential risk of this
material to human health and the environment is low.
As with all products, care must be taken to prevent its release to theenvironment. In the event of a chemical release or spill Nalco has
procedures in place that will reduce the potential human and/orenvironmental exposure through containment and remediation efforts.
