March 2016
My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The month of February was quite an eventful month in our council. We started the month off with a bang by hosting a very successful Super Bowl party on Sunday, Feb-ruary 7th. Special thanks go out to all the brothers and sisters that helped make this event so great including Bro. Larry and Lady Tina Dietz, Bro. Ed, Ms. Frankie, and Bro. Jacob van Olphen, Bro. Steve Lange, Bro. Andy Ruiz, Lady Sarah Hays, all of the Ladies of the Snow, and any other member that contributed to this successful event. We were able to turn a decent profit that will benefit our council charities.
The following Wednesday, February 10th began the season of Lent with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. With the start of Lent, we also have started the tradition of our weekly Lenten Fish Fry dinners. Bro. Steve and Bro. Harvey have led their teams to a great start and I commend them for their hard work. We have also had the volunteer help of one of the Boy Scouts from Troop #433. Dominic has been a consistently hard worker both serving meals as well as assisting in cleaning up after meals. He has been a pivotal to the success of the Fish Fry. Thank you Dominic!
Moving forward, we will be starting our “Treasures for the Troops” program in which we collect items needed for the soldiers both home and abroad. In correlation with the USO, our council will be collecting a variety of items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, various toiletries, snacks, and other needs. If you have any questions or would like to donate to this cause, please contact Bro. Larry Dietz or me.
This time of Lent is a great time to reflect on what is important to all of us. Whether it’s our faith, our family, or profession, or ourselves, we can use this time of Lent as a time refocus on our priorities. May the Lord grant us the peace and insightfulness to make wise decisions that will benefit ourselves and those around us.
“Commit to the Lord what-ever you do, and He will establish your plans” –Proverbs 16:3

The Easter Vigil is the "Mother of All Vigils." Easter Sunday,
then, is the greatest of all Sundays, and Easter Time is the most
important of all liturgical times. Easter is the celebration of the
Lord's resurrection from the dead, culminating in his Ascension
to the Father and sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Church.
There are 50 days of Easter from the first Sunday to Pentecost. It
is characterized, above all, by the joy of glorified life and the
victory over death, expressed most fully in the great resounding
cry of the Christian: Alleluia! All faith flows from faith in the
resurrection: "If Christ has not been raised, then empty is our
preaching; empty, too, is your faith." (1 Cor 15:14)
"What you sow is not brought to life unless it dies. And what you
sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel of wheat, per-
haps, or of some other kind;… So also is the resurrection of the
dead. It is sown corruptible; it is raised incorruptible. It is sown
dishonorable; it is raised glorious. It is sown weak; it is raised
powerful. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If
there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual one. So, too, it is
written, "The first man, Adam, became a living being," the last
Adam a life-giving spirit. But the spiritual was not first; rather the
natural and then the spiritual. The first man was from the earth,
earthly; the second man, from heaven. As was the earthly one, so
also are the earthly, and as is the heavenly one, so also are the
heavenly. Just as we have borne the image of the earthly one, we
shall also bear the image of the heavenly one (1 Cor 15:36-37, 42
-49).
The octave of Easter comprises the eight days which stretch from
the first to the second Sunday. It is a way of prolonging the joy of
the initial day. In a sense, every day of the Octave is like a little
Sunday.
The word "Easter" comes from Old English, meaning simply the
"East." The sun which rises in the East, bringing light, warmth
and hope, is a symbol for the Christian of the rising Christ, who is
the true Light of the world. The Paschal Candle is a central sym-
bol of this divine light, which is Christ. It is kept near the ambo
throughout Easter Time, and lit for all liturgical celebrations.
From Universal Norms on the Liturgical Year and the
Calendar:
22. The fifty days from the Sunday of the Resurrection to Pente-cost Sunday are celebrated in joy and exultation as one feast day, indeed as one "great Sunday." These are the days above all others in which the Alleluia is sung. 23. The Sundays of this time of year are considered to be Sun-days of Easter and are called, after Easter Sunday itself, the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Sundays of Easter. This sacred period of fifty days concludes with Pente-cost Sunday. 24. The first eight days of Easter Time constitute the Octave of Easter and are celebrated as Solemnities of the Lord.
25. On the fortieth day after Easter the Ascension of the Lord is
celebrated, except where, not being observed as a Holyday of
Obligation, it has been assigned to the Seventh Sunday of Easter
(cf. no. 7).
26. The weekdays from the Ascension up to and including the
Saturday before Pentecost prepare for the coming of the Holy
Spirit, the Paraclete.
The liturgical color for Easter is white. The General Instruction
of the Roman Missal (no. 346) also states: "On more solemn
days, festive, that is, more precious, sacred vestments may be
used even if not of the color of the day. The colors gold or silver
may be worn on more solemn occasions in the Dioceses of the
United States of America."
Especially during Easter Time, instead of the customary Peniten-
tial Act, the blessing and sprinkling of water may take place as a
reminder of Baptism.
There are six metropolitan sees and their suffragan Dioceses
which maintain the Solemnity of the Ascension on Thursday:
Boston, Hartford, Newark, New York, Omaha, and Philadelphia.
Every other region of the United States has opted to transfer the
Solemnity to the following Sunday (the Seventh Sunday of East-
er).

Are you saved? That question is a loaded one, implying that once
you confess that Jesus Christ is your personal Lord and savior,
that's it, you're saved. If that were true, then we wouldn't need to
go to Confession, nor would we need the Eucharist at each Mass,
because we now have a get-out-of-jail-free card; that is, our pro-
fessed belief in Jesus as our personal Lord and savior. In other
words, they ask you that question to get you to leave the Catholic
Church and join their protestant church.
A one-time profession of faith in Jesus Christ is a great start, but
there is much more to salvation than that. Jesus said that the Eu-
charist forgives sin (Matthew 26:28), Confession forgives sin
(John 20:22-23, and the Last Rites forgive sin (James 5:14-
15). This "I am saved" philosophy of many protestants doesn't
require any of these methods of forgiveness, because they believe
they are already saved and don't need any sacraments. And that
begs the question as to why Jesus instituted these sacraments to
aid us in our salvation if all we had to do was profess our belief in
him one time.
What does the Bible say about all of this?
Here are some verses that do indicate that salvation occurs in our
past:
Romans 8:22-24: We know that the whole creation has been
groaning in travail together until now; and not only the creation,
but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan
inwardly as we wait for adoption as sons, the redemption of our
bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen
is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?
Ephesians 2:4-8: But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great
love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through
our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you
have been saved), and raised us up with him, and made us sit
with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the com-
ing ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in
kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been
saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the
gift of God.
But then here are some verses that indicate that salvation is hap-
pening now:
2 Corinthians 2:15: For we are the aroma of Christ to God
among those who are being saved and among those who are
perishing,

Phillipians 2:12: Therefore, my beloved, as you have always
obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in
my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trem-
bling;
1 Peter 3:21: Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you,
not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God
for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
And here are some verses which indicate that salvation occurs in
the future:
Romans 5:9-10: Since, therefore, we are now justified by his
blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of
God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God
by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are recon-
ciled, shall we be saved by his life.
1 Corinthians 3:12-15: Now if any one builds on the foundation
with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each man's
work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because
it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of
work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on
the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man's
work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be
saved, but only as through fire.
Matthew 24:13: But he who endures to the end will be saved.
So what's the answer? The answer is that I have been saved, I'm
being saved, and I have the hope that I will be saved, while I
work out my salvation with fear and trembling, like St. Paul. In
other words, according to the Bible, "being saved" is not a one
time event, but rather, an ongoing process. Think of your salva-
tion journey as an airplane trip- "I have been on the airplane
since I first got on (baptism), I am now traveling on the airplane
(enduring the sufferings of life for Christ), and I will be on the
airplane when it lands at my final destination (death and heav-
en)!"
In the above analogy, keep in mind that the airplane can crash at
any time, and you can lose your salvation. This "flies" in the
face of what many protestant pastors preach - The doctrine of
"once saved, always saved". The Bible does not preach that doc-
trine; in fact, it even says in 2 Peter 2:20 :
"For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world
through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they
are again entangled in them and overpowered, the last state
has become worse for them than the first."
In 1 Corinthians 9:27, Paul says the following about the possibil-
ity of even himself losing his salvation:
"but I pommel my body and subdue it, lest after preaching to
others I myself should be disqualified."
In 1 Corinthians 10:12, Paul warns us all about smug overconfi-
dence regarding our salvation:
"Therefore let any one who thinks that he stands take heed lest he
fall."
If "once saved, always saved" was a true biblical doctrine, then
why would the Bible say just the opposite? Paul says to "work
out your salvation with fear and trembling" in Philippians 2:12,
which really implies that no one is truly saved until they die and
are safely in God's hands.
And one important thing to remember as well- We are forbidden
to judge people, from Matthew 7:1, which includes ourselves!
When people say "I am saved", they are judging themselves,
which is solely the job of Jesus Christ at the final judgment.

Hello Ladies and Knights, The month of February was a quiet one for us. We are getting ready for the months ahead. We have been helping our Knights with the fish frys. Thank you to all the ladies who have brought desserts. They have been great and delicious and yummy. And thank you to the ladies who have helped set up. I ap-preciate it. We will be hosting the wives of the 3rd degree candi-dates on Sunday march 20th at 1:00pm. We always have a fun afternoon meeting new Ladies, playing bun-co, and enjoying the finger foods our Ladies provide. And we have this great opportunity to recruit a few new ladies for our club. On April 10th the Ladies will be having a bunco. It will be a picnic theme meaning lots of fried chicken, potato salad and goodies. We will have raffle prizes, door prizes, an opportunity drawing and cash payouts for our winners and one loser. So, if you want an after-noon of good picnic food, no ants, lots of prizes, great company and lots of fun, join us. You get all this for the low, low price of $10.00 per person. On April 17th the Knights will be hosting a cham-pagne brunch. They will be serving scrambled eggs, sausage potatoes, a great pancake bar, fresh fruit, menudo, desserts and cold cuts. The Ladies have been asked to help out with the fresh fruit. This should be a great fundraiser for the Knights so invite all your friends and family for a gourmet brunch and a lazy morning laughing and talking with friends. I hope everyone has a wonderful March and an Easter filled with the blessings and hope of this Holy Day. Gods Blessings Tina Dietz Grand Lady

St. Mary Magdalene—the First Witness.
There were many initial witnesses to the resurrection—
but who was the first to actually see the resurrected
Christ? Answer: St. Mary Magdalene, at least according
to the Gospel of John. In Chapter 20, we read that when
she came across the empty tomb, St. Mary Magdalene
ran to tell Peter, who comes, sees the empty tomb for
himself, and then takes off with the other disciples. But
Mary Magdalene stays behind, weeping outside the
tomb. A man later appears to her, asking why she was
weeping—that man turned out to be Jesus.
What can we learn from Mary Magdalene? Here is what
Pope St. Gregory the Great tells us in one of his homi-
lies:
We should reflect on Mary’s attitude and the great love
she felt for Christ, for though the disciples had left the
tomb, she remained. She was still seeking the one she
had not found, and while she sought she wept. Burning
with the fire of love, she longed for him who she
thought had been taken away. And so it happened that
the woman who stayed behind to seek Christ was the
only one to see him. For perseverance is essential to any
good deed, as the voice of truth tells us: “Whoever per-
severes to the end will be saved.”
Mary Magdalene’s story speaks to us today. In some
sense, all Christians are standing with her outside the
tomb, waiting for God, longing for Christ. All of us can
relate in some way to the unease and anxiety that nagged
at her soul when she was confronted with the absence of
Christ. May we also share in the same earnest seeking
for God. May we
too perse- vere in
faith to the end.
