FASTEST IN-FLIGHT WI-FIUNLEASH THE INTERNETWORK, SURF, SHOP, AND PLAY LIKE NEVER BEFORE
EXEDE® IN THE AIR SERVICE BY VIASAT CHANGES THE WAY PASSENGERS
EXPERIENCE IN-FLIGHT WI-FI WITH THE FASTEST INTERNET SPEEDS. This highly-differentiated service is the first of its kind, capable of delivering
12 Mbps to every connected passenger on the plane and every plane in the
airspace giving them the best in-flight Internet experience available. No other
in-flight connectivity service delivers value to airlines, their passengers and
crew like the Exede service.
Growing use of tablets, phones, and other mobile devices with bandwidth-
intensive applications and media-rich web pages has created an explosion of
demand for higher speeds, whether at home or on-the-go. People want fast
connections no matter where they are and onboard aircraft is no exception.
The capacity and economics of ViaSat-1, the world’s highest capacity satellite,
delivers the price, performance, and scalability airlines need to achieve
a passenger experience and engagement levels not possible on existing
services. Connected passengers can work, surf, shop, and play up to 8x faster
than competitive services giving airlines an advantage.
• Fastest in-flight Wi-Fi with Internet connection speeds of 12 Mbps or higher to the passenger.
• Service level agreement provides the greatest value to airlines.
• Highly-differentiated Internet experience to attract passengers and build loyalty for added services.
• Supports high-bandwidth crew and operations applications.
• Low operating expenses and cost-effective equipment means high return for airlines.
• Airline controlled retail service packaging and pricing.
• First FCC license for Ka-band air mobility in the U.S.; permits operation of ViaSat low-profile airborne antenna on the ViaSat Ka-band satellite fleet.
THE EXEDE SERVICE ADVANTAGE
FASTEST INFLIGHT WI-FI
In-flight connectivity services have evolved and consumers want to browse the web and stream video more like their home experience. Only ViaSat, by leveraging our leadership in high-capacity Ka-band satellite technology, is poised to respond to the simultaneous growth of take rate and bandwidth demanded by passengers. The Exede service is capable of delivering 12 Mbps to each passenger on the plane no matter how many connect. Competing in-flight services are based simply on an aggregate amount of bandwidth to the plane that leaves passengers contending for service.
With the Exede service, airlines can let business and leisure travelers do more in the air than they thought was possible, including video chats and streaming media. This is the only service that lets everyone use the Internet the way they want. Our service offers the best experience to the passenger while the economics of Ka-band give a sustainable advantage to the airline.
BEST VALUE TO AIRLINES
ViaSat designed the Exede service level agreement to be the most effective for the airlines based on Internet usage and industry research. The service levels are aimed at meeting the economic requirements of airlines while satisfying passenger demand. In addition, the service can evolve as passenger take rate increases.
Each passenger’s usage is monitored to ensure a superior experience for all. Airlines can offer a basic service with options to give high-demand users expanded service.
HOW IT WORKS
Exede In The Air service for commercial airlines uses high-capacity Ka-band commercial satellites to send and receive data from the aircraft. The aircraft has several wireless access points to provide each passenger with the strongest signal. Passengers will connect to the aircraft network similar to Wi-Fi connections on the ground making it simple and seamless.
Data is transmitted to and from the plane through the satellite to the ground station and back. As the plane moves through the air, the Exede in The Air system automatically performs hand overs between coverage areas.
