The Fast Food Joint, Maple Canyon

Location: 150 yards up-canyon from Box Canyon on the north side of the road.

Generalities: The Fast Food Joint is located on the first right-sweeping turn after Box Canyon,

approximately 150 yards from the Box Canyon pullout. An identifying feature of the cliff is the deep couloir

that forms the ice route “Roudside Couloir”  in winter months.

Routes here are easy, between 5.5 and 5.10b. Despite it’s very close proximity to the road, undergrowthand cottonwoods largely conceal the wall from passers-by. Vehicles often drive by and never notice

climbers on the wall. The shade trees are welcome reprieve in the summer, but the best climbing is inspring, fall or early mornings/evenings.

    1. Double Beat-loaf Project

    2. High Dollar Value Meal 5.9 FA: Jason Stevens. Climbs the sliver of vertical rock between two

overhanging walls. Fun route, great location.

    3. Itty Bitty Biscuits 5.5, FA: Jason Stevens. Fun easy romp that ends at chains under the roof. To

access the routes above, traverse left to an anchor station.

    4. Big Toasty Buns 5.10b, FA: Brandon Taggart. Sweet exit moves.

    5. Little Toasty Buns 5.8, FA: Jason Stevens. Avoids the roof and moves right to anchors above the

couloir. Surprisingly airy, fun geometry, exciting location.

    6. Roadside Couloir 5.6, FA: Jason Stevens. This route follows the line of the ice climb by the same

name. Anchors are on the left wall a little beyond the top of the couloir. We decided to use glue-insbecause of seasonal water. Not hard, but harder than it looks.

    7. Double the Beef for a Buck 5.8, FA: Jason Stevens

    8. McBitchin 5.7, FA: Jason Stevens. More expletive title for the McAwesome.

    9. McAwesome 5.6. FA: Noah Stevens. Climbs the corner/arete on the right side of the couloir. If

you like spicy chicken and beef, ask for a McAwesome by name. It’s on the menu.

    10. My Favorite Carcinogen 5.6, FA: Jason Stevens

    11. Land, Sea and Air Burger 5.6, FA: Jason Stevens. I double-dog dare you to order one.

    12. See Food Diet  5.6, FA: Jason Stevens. When you see food, eat it.

    13. Bacon Bacon Bacon  5.7. FA: Jason Stevens. The one thing better than bacon is MORE bacon.

    14. Special Sauce 5.8, FA: Jason Stevens.

    15. Gut Bomb 5.8+, FA: Noah Stevens. One of his first first ascents. Well done Noah.

    16. Root’n Toot’n Gluten 5.10b, FA: Brandon Taggart. Last route on the tip/corner of the wall.
