O’Brien of Amherst, class of 2012 was named to the dean’s list at Col- by College in Waterville, Maine, for his outstanding academic achieve- ment during the spring semester of the 2009-10 year. He is the son of Edward and Andrea O’Brien of Amherst. A graduate of Souhe- gan High School, John is majoring ineconomics and East Asian stud- ies. Gagne of Amherst Receives Granite State Award Keene State College honored alumnus Mr. David Gagne for his accomplishments and dedication to service, which exemplify the best of the Keene State tradition and the Granite State spirit. Mr. Gagne is the founder and managing general partner of Iron- Works Executive Partners, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in team building for emerging and growing high-technology companies. Mr. Gagne has been an unwaver- ing advocate for Keene State College and its students. A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Gagne worked at Keene State after graduation as coordinator of veterans’ affairs, setting up the first office of its type in New England. From 1974 to 1976 he served as a legislator in the New Hampshire House of Representatives and as president of the Keene State College Alumni Board of Directors from 2005 to 2009. He was the College’s alumni trustee on the USNH Board of Trustees for four years. In May 2002, the Alumni Association gave him the Sprague W. Drenan Award for “dedicated support of Keene State College.” Mr. Gagne graduated from Keene State with a B.S. in communication. He earned an M.S. in adult educa- tion at the University of Southern Maine. He has served on numerous boards and committees, including the Keene State Veterans’ Service Monument Committee. He earned the Bronze Star, Army Commenda- tion Medal, and numerous other ci- tations for his service in Vietnam. Keene State College recognizes Mr. Gagne for his efforts on behalf of the College and the State of New Hampshire and for his commitment to enriching the lives of others. We are pleased to award him the Gran- ite State Award. These five poets were honored at Toadstool Bookstore for their winning poems. Their second grade teacher at Wilkins School, Janet Scagnelli, was the only teacher from that school to submit her students’ work for the com- munity wide contest. Her students were writing poetry as part of their daily studies, each student then chose one of their own works which she then submitted to the contest. She was, again, proven an exceptional teacher as five of the winners came from her class. There were over 120 entries from around the community. SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - Brendan Duggan, a member of the Class of 2010 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.

He is the son of Helen and James Duggan of Amherst.

Duggan earned a B.S. degree mag-na cum laude with honor in dance at Skidmore’s 99th commencement in May. In addition, he was elect-ed to membership in the college’s New York Alpha Theta Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the national honor-ary mathematics society. Duggan
