2013 FASHION COLLOQUIA NEW YORK PARSONS THE NEW SCHOOL FOR DESIGN School of Fashion February 8th & 9th FASHION COLLOQUIA NEW YORK / Parsons The New School For Design: February 8th & 9th 2013 The Fashion Colloquia is made up of a core network of four universities (London College of Fashion, Domus Academy, Institut Français de la Mode and Parsons The New School For Design) connected by their geographies and involvement in the four big 'fashion cities' of Paris, London, Milan, and New York. The New York session of The Fashion Colloquium hosted by Parsons The New School for Design will close this inaugural series in February 2013. Attendance at the Parsons Colloquium will be free of charge, but we ask that you register your attendance via [email protected] in order for us to prepare catering in advance. Morning and afternoon tea along with lunch will be provided on both days for registered attendees. Call for Papers Proposals for papers are invited from partner schools, along with experts and practitioners from the industry. Submissions should be in the form of abstracts (500 words max) for 15-minute presentations within the following themes: 1. Heritage and identity in fashion How does heritage/tradition/nostalgia empower, and how does it hinder? Explorations could include the relationship between luxury and heritage, branding and strategy, bespoke craftsmanship and technology, etc. 2. Digital technologies and their impact on fashion What impacts are fast-developing technologies having on design processes, fashion communication, and fashion systems? How does the next generation create, co-create and consume fashion as a result of these technologies? 3. The globalization and internationalization of fashion How is fashion from emerging fashion capitals around the world impacting on the established ‘fashion capitals’? What new discourses are emerging around cultural appreciation and appropriation? Nine selected presenters will be notified by Monday, December 17th, 2012. Pecha Kucha Call (20 slides for 20 second each) by participating Academic Institutions Pecha Kucha presentations will feature key examples of collaborative external projects between industry and academia. Proposals are invited from participating academic institutions. Submissions should be in the form of an overview of project (300 words max) along with a suggested list of slide titles.
