A big thank you to all visitors from the F4W suppliers for making the 2018 show so successful. Pictured at the entrance to the show in the Titanic’s Rum Warehouse are from left: Richard Baker, Muriva; David Wilson, Belgravia Decor, Stuart Wilson, A S Creation; Carl Wheeler, Fine Decor; Alan Dowd, Holden Decor; Mark Pattison, Debona, and Mark Metcalfe, Rasch UK.

This was the fourth successive year that Fashion4Walls has been held in the Titanic’s spacious Rum Warehouse suite, and once again it was a very successful event. There was a great response from retailers to the new collections, and a lot of positivity for the autumn season.

As one retailer put it: “After a tough year so far, I think we all needed an event like this more than ever.” Another commented that it gave everyone who attended a real lift.

The consensus among the independent retailers F4W Newsletter spoke to after the show was that the new ranges were better than ever, with very usable patterns and colours to suit all tastes, and a real emphasis from suppliers on good design at affordable prices.

This year’s show was organised by Mark Metcalfe, managing director of Rasch UK, who commented: “I must confess I was somewhat nervous after what can only be described as a challenging summer. However, I shouldn’t have worried, as our customers came out in large numbers to support the show, just as they have done in the past.

“Looking around the room, you could sense a

positive vibe for the autumn both from customers and suppliers. I would like to thank all those who helped in coordinating the event, and wish you all a successful end to 2018.”

Carl Wheeler, sales director of Fine Decor, added: “A big thank you to all the retailers who supported Fashion4Walls again this year. It was another successful show - and all your orders and support are very much appreciated throughout the year.”

Echoing his comments, Alan Dowd, sales director of Holden Decor said: “The Holden team would like to take this opportunity to say a big ‘Thank You’ to all our customers for their continued and loyal support, following what was a hugely successful F4W 2018 show. We look forward to showcasing our fantastic new designs with you all in the future.”

And attending the show for the first time, David Wilson, Belgravia Decor’s new sales and design director, said: “Fashion4Walls 2018 was a very enjoyable show. I would like to thank all the customers for their attendance and kind words on the day, along with Mark and all the Rasch team for organising a great day and evening.”

A great F4W show – and a positive vibe for autumnAfter a challenging summer for many in the trade, customers once again came in large numbers to support this year’s Fashion4Walls show at the Titanic Hotel Liverpool on August 29, voted another excellent event

We were very ready to go to Fashion4Walls this year: we hadn’t bought anything since April, and had a lot of empty shelves to fill! There were plenty of good ranges on show, and I always say that if suppliers offer the right products at the right price, people will buy them. I think we’ll have a good end to the year.”

every year, and it is always an event to look forward to. This year was no exception. The Titanic Hotel is a lovely venue, and the Rum Warehouse a great setting for the exhibition. September is such an important time for business, so to be able to view the new collections in one place at one time is so valuable.

“There were lots of lovely products to view and it was interesting to see more geometrics coming through, particularly cube designs. We have been seeing an increased demand for green, highlighted through the recent and continuing Jungle trend, and we anticipate that growing more.

“The market is undoubtedly tough, so we are pleased to see that the focus remains on delivering good design at affordable prices.”

Avril Brownley, DIY Trading, Washington

We enjoyed the show as always, and felt that it was better overall this year than last: it was a good gala evening, too. There were a lot of nice ranges at the show, with designs for all tastes and styles.”

David Shutt, Ramsdens Home Interiors, Grimsby

Our customers look forward to seeing the new lines in our store at the start of autumn, and there were some great ranges at Fashion4Walls, with good colours, as well as value

for money collections. It was good too to see the support from customers for the suppliers who put on the show. It’s been a tough year so far, and I think we all needed an event like this more than ever. As well as seeing the latest collections, you can meet and talk to others in the business, and there was a positive feeling about the coming autumn.”

Mark Welch, Decoron, West Bromwich

It’s always good to see the new ranges on show at Fashion4Walls. We’re a fashion industry, and we all need to talk it up. Customers want to see our optimism as well the latest wallpaper designs and colours. Our philosophy has always been that you have to be positive and drive your business forward. We’ve continued to invest in our store this year, and we’re very optimistic about the autumn.”

Doreen Barnes, Frank Williamson, lerwick

It’s definitely worthwhile for us to go to Fashion4Walls, and we thoroughly enjoyed the show. There were some very good designs, and we placed a lot of orders for autumn. I think this year’s show gave everyone who attended it a real lift after the hot summer affected trade. The evening dinner was lovely, too.”

John nash, linwood Trade Supplies, Hednesford

We’ve been going to Fashion4Walls for many years now, and it’s always a good show. It’s nice to get together with everyone - the evening was very enjoyable, and the Titanic is a fantastic venue. It was good to see all the fresh designs, and to be able to take advantage of ordering them early before the sheds can get them in their stores. A lot of the new ranges we ordered are now on our shelves, and people are starting to buy them.”

Key trends at the showDesigners highlight key trends in the new collections shown at F4W, and look at how they are expected to develop for next season’s style and colour directions

contemporary vinyl, offers a modern softer geometric teamed with semi-plain coordinates in a neutral palette with hints of glitter.

Circular patterns and abstract shapes continue to trend, and our Marino collection offers two stylish contemporary designs to suit this theme. And with luxury and sparkle still in abundance, our Pulse collection highlights glitter in three striking graphic designs.

The new Mayfair range offers stunning contemporary foils, while Emporium showcases encased glitter effects, including a marble effect and a bold leaf. Hot on trend this season, Gin & Fizz features two conversational-themed collage designs based on Prosecco and the 1940’s cocktail glamour trend.

For the season ahead, SS19, I expect that together with geometrics, bold tropical vibrant leaves will continue to flourish, and that statement animal motif prints will re-emerge.

Colours of deep blues, zingy teal and rich mustards teamed with darker charcoal and navy, along with accents of brass and rose gold will continue to be prevalent. Textures will be

tactile to provide sumptuous depth, while marble and wood effects create a natural luxe look that is sleek and smart.

nicola Bradshaw, design manager, Holden Decor

At Fashion4Walls we offered a variety of

products to sit with the current trends, and had a

great reaction to our launches.Elements is a prominent trend, with

precious stones, minerals, marbles, fossils and rock formations, enhanced by metallics or foil highlights. Landscapes and washy horizons are a development of this trend, with painterly effects and ombres bringing in a softer look. This can be seen in Elias, our new collection launching in October.

Structures: Geometrics are still in abundance, with simple shard and prism prints everywhere. Chevrons are key, enhanced by metallic highlights and bold colours.

This trend is featured in Teton, also launched in October. Waves, curves and trellises are a

way of using the trend in a softer style, often given further depth with three-dimensional or textile effects.

Sophisticated tropical: Adding sophistication to the tropical trend, this move on focuses on a softer palette, featuring tranquil scenes and leafy prints. Terrariums and exotic succulents are a development from the cacti trend, bringing a more elegant look.

Botanicals/woodland: Beautifully drawn florals are embellished with hints of geometrics and high-shine metallics to add extra interest. Lavana, our new vinyl design, sits with this trend. Tone on tone prints enhanced with chalky effects and hidden woodland animals offer a subtler take on this trend.

Surface: Textile, distressed plaster and weave effects are still in abundance, with their tactile qualities adding depth, reflected in our new textured Caldera design. Embossed foils are key, with brushed metal effects bringing opulence to a room.

Classical: Delicate trails are updated with distressed effects and embellishments, such as sequins and jewels. Swirling paisleys are also

for autumn reflect the classic longevity of the product, in a

timeless yet contemporary palette of neutrals from frost and dove grey to stone, fawn and charcoal. A key example would be the popular Livenza range, developed in classic colours.

Luxurious metallic touches and glamorous finishes add richness and warmth to all our in-register vinyl ranges. Expect forthcoming launches to further develop this palette with a broader range of on-trend hues.

Veined marble, polished concrete and natural surfaces are a key look this season, as seen in the chic statement Carrara texture. The Tremezzo collection successfully marries this theme with the popular geometric trend, coordinating with a softer, small-scale stone texture for a four-wall option.

Retro is another key look for autumn, with simple geometric patterns in monochrome hues. The new Seriano-branded San Remo collection has proved very popular, combining retro with a classic tactile texture.

luxe decor adds a focal point to home interiors, and Navona has been developed with this in mind. Flashes of metallic and geometric shapes are softened by classic textures for feature wall glamour. The glittering, feather-like Merano offers a similarly glamorous yet gentler take on the luxury theme, highlighting the movement and texture coming through in this season’s trends.

The Alessio and Dahlia blown vinyl collections feature in our contemporary Moda Black Label range. It is well suited to laid-back, washed or sun-bleached hues which team well with the relaxed modernity seen in today’s contemporary home interiors.

Vicki ellmore, design manager, Fine Decor

Geometrics continue to dominate the interiors

market, and are set to be popular well into 2019. Fine

Decor has extended its geometric wallcovering ranges this season in a variety of design styles, techniques and substrates. Milano 8, our new

starting to appear, with textures and shadows adding extra depth.

Colours: Neutrals - greys continue to be a key colour for 2018, with rose golds becoming very prominent. Taupes and creams are also in abundance, enhanced with gold and gilder. Accent colours of rich teal, navy and emerald green create a sumptuous look.

Fresh greens are key to the tropical trend, while sage greens sit perfectly with a more country look, bringing the outdoors in. Dusky pinks are still prominent, with coral and apricot tones further developing this key colour. Metallics are in abundance, giving movement and depth in the background of designs, as well adding highlights in key areas.

Vicki Kitson, design manager, Rasch UK

We had a wonderful response to our new

collections at F4W. Reflecting a key trend that is set to

continue into next year, the geometric designs in our Symmetry and Portfolio

collections launched at the show have proved very popular, and the ornamental design from our Paloma collection, with glitter and glimmer effects, creates an opulent Art Deco feel. This retro revival style, with minimal, geometric and stylised patterns, makes Art Deco a strong look for 2019.

Animal prints also make a strong fashion statement, influenced from the catwalk in sophisticated neutrals or decadent metallics.

Bloomsbury vibe flowers, archive prints in muted tones and dark dramatic blooms are on trend for this season’s florals.

Semi-precious stones, marbles and terrazzo enhance any design. Their variety of pattern and colour, mixed with metallic, lustre finishes, add a luxurious look to any room.

Colour palettes for next season are exciting - mustard yellows, orange and rust, sumptuous red, pink and peach, olive and moss greens, and jewel tones of emeralds and blues. Colour is back!

New designs from Rasch, influenced by some of these key trends, will be featured in collections throughout the next season.

oBITUARIeSCarol Greener Carol Vivien Greener, who was a prominent member of the wallcoverings industry for many years, passed away peacefully at her home on June 29, 2018, aged 57, surrounded by her family and beloved pets, after suffering from bowel cancer.

Carol started working in the family business, Greeners of

Sunderland, aged 14, helping out on Saturdays, and soon took over every aspect of the business, which she put her heart and soul into. She was determined to get better, spending a lot of time walking and climbing in the Lake District, but sadly lost her battle. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Helen Greener

Martin was an avid real tennis and squash player who lived in the North East. He is survived by his three children, who he brought up single-handedly after his wife sadly died in 2008.

Martin was a true gentleman. He worked in the UK and internationally with suppliers and key customers alike, and will be sadly missed. Steve Mulheron

Styish geometrics and textures

Glitters, metallics and soft florals

Symmetry, the new on-trend geometric collection, showcases three quite different looks. They include patterns with suede effect backgrounds and glitter detail in a palette of teal/grey, blue, yellow and greys, plus a funky geo texture on rose gold or silver metallic grounds, (shown on cover), which will look stunning on any wall.

The new Paloma paste the wall collection also features three different design styles: a stunning ornamental pattern on a glimmer background with raised glitter effects, a subtle diagonal plaid with delicate glitters in soft grey, cream and taupe, and a beautiful chinoiserie floral with glimmer and glitter effects on a slub textured background.

The Portfolio collection of papers continues to offer an eclectic mix of designs, ranging from a quirky colonial-style pattern of elephants, leopards and parrots with tropical foliage, to colourful bricks, graffiti, florals and geos with glimmer and glitter.

And the latest heavyweight vinyl collection, Cascata, features two beautiful textured designs: a marble and a crushed silk effect in a choice of silver, gold, rose gold and white, with glitter embellishments.

Eclipse is a glitter-enhanced blown vinyl with a mica ground and allover semi-plain texture which forms a subtly spiral geometric design, in soft teal, cream or grey (on cover). Using the same technique is Linden, a blown foliage trail, also with mica and glitter, in blush pink, grey or charcoal/pink.

Continuing the ongoing metallic trend are Caldera, below, and Shay. In silver and rose gold, these deep embossed textured patterns offer a usable alternative to the in-your-face shine of some foil textures currently on the market.

Lavana vinyl has a delicate floral design on a shimmering geometric print

in cream, grey or more striking pink or green options, with a cream

and grey plain texture to coordinate.

Following such a positive reaction to our Decadence glass bead collection, we have added

Aravalli to these luxury designs. This stunning

contemporary geometric with a substantial coverage of glass

beads comes in taupe and grey.Dream More is our latest offering of

quirky and conversational wallpapers. The range includes Dream Lashes, a glamorous design featuring eyelashes and feel-good sayings; and You Had Me At Aloe, an organic design inspired by the succulent and cacti accessories that are so popular at the moment.

Rasch reports a very positive reaction from customers at F4W, with its new geometric designs from Symmetry, Portfolio and Modern Art particularly standing out

New retro and contemporary collectionsBelgravia Decor launched an exciting and varied range of in-register vinyl collections at F4W, with Livenza, San Remo and Merano most popular

Innovative textures and metallics

San Remo and Livenza, the latest additions to the popular Seriano range, attracted high customer interest at the show. San Remo, a stylish retro geometric embossed with woven textures and a hint of glitter, can be teamed with a coordinating texture for four-wall decoration. Livenza is an elegant floral trail with a stunning linear backdrop, which also features as a coordinating texture in classic colours.

New contemporary in-register vinyl collections lead off with the lush Merano collection featuring intertwined feather-like fronds, embossed and highlighted by luxurious glitter. And the feature wall Navona is a striking circular geometric design embossed with radial metallic detail, in three stylish colour options.

glitter and a stunning emboss. Tremezzo, shown on page 5, is a refined geometric with a coordinating texture in natural colours, and Carrara is a chic stand-alone collection.

The latest modern blown vinyl, Alessio, is ideal for four-wall or feature wall use. This chic linear pattern comes in a contemporary tonal palette accented by glitter and mica. And the popular blown vinyl Dahlia Texture is given a fresh twist with the addition of contemporary colour options.

Orla Wave, one of Muriva’s most popular collections at F4W, is a blown vinyl with a luxurious undulating texture. Its fine strands are embellished with thousands of tiny glitter pearls, and it comes in navy, slate, grey and white.

Also very well received, Lipsy Luxe Texture (see page 5) is a new Lipsy London vinyl collection launched with coordinating Lipsy Luxe Damask. Both feature metallic inks and a shimmering emboss, and come in champagne, silver, rose gold and charcoal. Ava, (on cover), a new addition to Lipsy London’s range of wallpapers, is patterned with fresh blooms inspired by its floral dresses, in soft pink, grey and cream.

In contrast, Indra is a stylish abstract diamond geometric in metallic inks on a vertical silk texture enhanced with subtle glitter, in turquoise, rose gold, silver or charcoal. Smaller diamonds emboss Ophelia, a metallic textured heavyweight vinyl, inspired by the quilted fabrics that are the hottest trend in luxury handbags and purses. It comes in rose gold, gold, silver and midnight blue.

And new to Kylie Minogue’s glamorous Kylie At Home wallpaper range, Cassia is a luxurious metallic allover design on a softly textured matt ground in a choice of silver, rose gold, antique silver and gunmetal.
