Hake Realty is not only a thriving business in the Big

Horn Basin, they also pride themselves on their commit-

ment to the communities they serve.

“We’ve been successful for over 100 years because we

care about our community,” said Hake owner Landis

Benson. “We are all part of making our little corner of the

world a better place to live and work.”

Landis encourages his Realtors to find ways they can

make a difference as a group, which they do regularly. Last

year the Realtors pooled their sales to donate a percentage

of each commission to a child facing a life-threatening

illness. The money helped the family with expenses related

to his treatment.

Hake Realty agents also teamed up with high school

members of the local FFA chapter, Chief Washakie FFA, to

provide much-needed supplies for the local food bank—

items that are often overlooked like cleaning supplies and

personal care products.

Each Christmas the Realtors team up with a fifth grade

class to decorate a tree for the annual Festival of Trees

celebration. The trees are sold during a community auc-

tion and the money is used to augment funding of many

local non-profit organizations. During the holidays, the

Realtors also help deliver boxes of food for the Worland

Ministerial Association’s Christmas Basket program.

Individually, the Realtors also contribute to the com-

munities they live in; serving on the Gottsche Foundation

Board of Trustees, the Worland Planning Commission,

Wyoming Sugar Company (a grower-owned sugar pro-

duction facility) Board, the Wyoming Real Estate

Commission, volunteering at CHAPS Equine Assisted

Therapy in Sheridan, on the Board of the Ten Sleep

Tribute newspaper, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, on

Big Horn Rural Electric ‘Operation Round Up’ Board

(charity board), the Worland Senior Citizen Center Board,

delivering Meals on Wheels to seniors and others who are

home-bound, serving as members and officers in Worland

Rotary Club, coaching little league baseball, on the

Wyoming Way Fan Board for the University of Wyoming

Athletics Department, serving on the South Big Horn

Hospital Board, and donating time and meals to many

different community needs.

“We’ve been part of our south Big Horn Basin

community for over 100 years and we all take pride in

giving back to a region that has been very generous to us,”

Landis said. “I hope to see our tradition of community

participation and community service continue for many

years to come.”

Located onscenic US Highway 16—the best and easiest route from the BlackHills of South Dakota to Yellowstone National Park—Ten Sleep isa small yet vibrant resort and tourist town.
