1 Quick Q&A

Q: A large number of log files are generated by services or applications. Can Imanually delete logs?

A: No. The system automatically deletes expired logs based on the configured logstorage duration (1 to 30 days).

Q: Will Log Tank Service (LTS) delete logs transferred to Object Storage Service(OBS) buckets? How do I query transferred logs?

A: No. Log transfer is to save logs to OBS buckets. After the logs are transferred,you can click the OBS bucket name in the Transfer Object column to go to theOBS console and view the transferred log files.

Q: If the log collection function is disabled on Application OperationsManagement (AOM), will LTS collect logs?

A: No. The log collection switch status of LTS is synchronized with that of AOM.That is, if you disable the Continue to Collect Logs When the Free Quota isExceeded function in AOM, that function in LTS will also be disabled and logs willnot be collected.

2 What Can I Do If the ICAgent Fails to BeInstalled?

What Can I Do If the ICAgent Fails to Be Installed in the WindowsEnvironment and the "SERVICE STOP" Message Is Displayed?

Symptom: The ICAgent fails to be installed in the Windows environment and the"SERVICE STOP" message is displayed. No ICAgent task exists in the task manager.No ICAgent service exists in the system service list. When the sc query icagentcommand is executed, a message is displayed, indicating that no ICAgent is found.

Cause: Antivirus software, such as 360 Total Security, blocks registration of theICAgent service.

Solution:

1. Check whether antivirus software, such as 360 Total Security, is running.2. Close the antivirus software and install the ICAgent again.

In the Windows environment, you need to manually configure ICAgent collection paths. TheICAgent can collect .log, .trace, and .out files, but does not collect binary files or Windowssystem logs.

What Can I Do If the ICAgent Upgrade Fails?You can log in to the VM node and run the ICAgent installation command again.Because the ICAgent supports overwriting installation, directly reinstall theICAgent without uninstallation.

3 Guide of Upgrading the Telescope to theICAgent

IntroductionTo improve your experience, HUAWEI CLOUD Log Tank Service (LTS) has upgradedits system architecture. After the upgrade, you need to use the new agent ICAgentto collect logs.

Upgrade impacts:

● Existing users are affected. Existing users need to replace the Telescope agentwith the ICAgent. That is, uninstall the Telescope agent, install the ICAgentand import the collected log data configured in the Telescope agent to theICAgent.

● For a new user, install the latest version of the ICAgent.

Upgrade time: Aug 17, 2019 07:00 - Aug 31 2019 23:59 GMT+08:00. During theupgrade, existing users need to upgrade the agent by following the instructionsprovided in this document.

Agent Upgrade Process

Step 1: Obtaining the AK/SKBefore installing the ICAgent, you need to obtain the Access Key ID/Secret AccessKey (AK/SK).

1. Log in to the console.

2. On the management console, hover over the username in the upper rightcorner and choose My Credentials from the drop-down list.

3. Choose Access Keys from the navigation pane.4. Click Create Access Key, and enter the login password and verification code.

5. Click OK to generate an access key and download it.

Keep your AK/SK secure since you need them to install the ICAgent.

Step 2: Installing the ICAgent1. Choose Service List > Management & Deployment > Log Tank Service.2. In the navigation pane, click Agent Management to go to the Agent

Management page.3. Click Install ICAgent.4. Generate the ICAgent installation command.

Installation mode is set to Obtain AK/SK by default. Enter the AK/SKobtained in 5 in the text box to generate the ICAgent installation command.

5. Then, click Copy Command to copy the ICAgent installation command.

Ensure that the AK/SK are correct. Otherwise, the ICAgent cannot be installed.

6. Use a remote login tool, such as PuTTY, to log in to the server where theICAgent is to be installed as the root user and run the preceding command toinstall the ICAgent.When the message "ICAgent install success" is displayed, the ICAgent issuccessfully installed in the /opt/oss/servicemgr/ directory.

7. After the ICAgent is successfully installed, choose Agent Management in theLTS navigation pane to view the ICAgent status.

Step 3: Importing Collection Configuration DataYou can import the log collection information configured in the Telescope agent tothe ICAgent. The ICAgent continues to collect logs based on the imported logcollection information.

1. On the Agent Management page, click the Telescope Agent tab page.

2. Click to expand the instance, record information such as Log Format, LogGroup Name, Log Stream Name, and Path.

3. Click Import on the right to import the log collection information configuredin the Telescope agent.

● If there are multiple instances, perform the preceding steps to import them.

● After the ICAgent is installed, both the Telescope agent and the ICAgent collectlogs at the same time (parallel policy) to ensure that log data can be smoothlymigrated, without being lost.

Step 4: Viewing Imported LogsThe collection configuration data will be imported 2 minutes later. You need to goto the corresponding log stream page to have a check.

1. In the navigation pane, click Log Management to go to the LogManagement page.

2. In the log group list, click a log group recorded in 2. The log stream list pageis displayed.

3. In the log stream list, click a log stream recorded in 2. The Log Stream pageis displayed.

4. Click Collection Configuration and check whether the log collectionconfiguration information, such as Log Format, Log Group Name, and Path,is consistent with that in the Telescope agent before.

5. Click Real-Time Logs to view logs in real time.

● Historical log data is automatically imported by the system.● If the log collection configuration data is inconsistent or no log data exists, the

import fails. In this case, import the log collection configuration data again orcontact Huawei technical support engineers.

Step 5: Deleting the Collection Path Configured in the Telescope AgentAfter the log collection configuration data is imported successfully, delete the logcollection instance from the Telescope agent. Otherwise, two log collectors exist atthe same time. As a result, logs are repeatedly collected and reported.

1. On the Agent Management page, click the Telescope Agent tab page.2. Click Delete next to the instance to delete the log collection information

configured in the Telescope agent.

The deletion operation indicates deleting the log collection path configured in theTelescope agent instead of uninstalling the Telescope agent. After the deletion, theTelescope agent will not report logs to LTS. To uninstall the Telescope, run thefollowing command:/usr/local/telescope/uninstall.sh

5 What Can I Do If the CPU usage Is HighDuring Agent Running?

If the CPU usage is high during Agent running, check whether there are a largenumber of logs in the log collection path. You are advised to configure a properlog rolling and clearing policy to reduce system resource occupation during logcollection.

6 What Is the Data Loading Latency onthe Real-Time Log View Page?

In general, the data loading interface is invoked every 3 seconds. If no log data isgenerated within the 3 seconds, nothing is displayed. The interface will be invoked3 seconds later and the log data will be updated. Therefore, the data loadinglatency is 3 seconds.

8 What Kind of Logs Can LTS Collect?

Currently, LTS only supports log file collection, and the logs (UTC/GMT+08:00)must be from the last seven days.

9 How Do I Transfer CTS Logs?

Log groups can be created by users (active) or cloud services (passive). Log groupsand log streams created by cloud services are those automatically created by thesystem on the Log Tank Service (LTS) service console after HUAWEI CLOUD cloudservices are interconnected with LTS. To transfer logs to OBS, perform thefollowing operations:

1. On the Cloud Trace Service (CTS) management console, click Trackers in thenavigation pane on the left.

2. Click Configure next to the tracker system.

3. On the Configure Tracker page, enable Trace Analysis.
