On Windows PCs: You may receive a "Citrix Workspaces - Security Warning" dialog box, asking for permission to access files on your computer. Check the box for and then click .Do not ask me again for this site Permit all access

Click on to expand the list of drives and folders. The folders listed on the left-hand side(Desktop, Documents, etc.) will save to This PC Note:your local computer.Double-click on to open your local driveLocal Disk(C: on <computer name>)Navigate to find your local files.

To find files in your "Documents" folder,

When you are running an application on the App2Go server and you go to open or save a file, a dialog box will appear.  The window will look similar to the one below:

If you are on a Mac, make sure to click on "This PC" and then navigate to the "C:" drive, Users, and whatever your profile name is. From here you can save

If you have shared network drives that normally appear on your workstation, they should appear in the open screen towards the bottom (as depicted above by the H: and P: drives).  Saving data to these drives means they will be readily accessible on your workstation or other computers you may log in to.

Your local workstation's drives should also be available in your App2Go session, e.g. "Local Disk (C: on Computer Name)".  Saving files to this location will mean that you can access the files from the workstation where you launched App2Go initially. This is an alternative to saving to your shared drives.

If you attempt to save a file and the system tells you that “Access is denied,” you are probably just trying to save in the Helpful hints:wrong directory.  Also, if you know you saved a file and later you can’t find it, it is likely due to your confusion about your local drives and the server drives.  Log back in and see if it is in “My Documents.

Saving Data from Applications in App2Go in macOS

NOTE: If you are using a Mac device, please make sure to read this section in its entirety. Windows applications will not save properly on your Mac device (i.e. Multimedia Logic and Solidworks). A file access message may appear. Check the box for and then click  . Don't ask me again Read & Write

Even though the image says "Citrix Viewer" and not "Citrix Workspace" the options should be the same.

Some programs are designed in such a way to ONLY save to a Windows machine. Unfortunately, the macOS filing system is different than Windows. This means that you will be able to save anything to your Google Drive, your disk drive on your Mac, or a USB drive. To combat NOTthis, App2Go has a network drive that is ran on the VCU network. See below to access the network drive to your folder. Keep in mind, you only have access folder, you will not be able to see data in another folder.  your

Connect to the VPN using Cisco Anyconnect. After you connect, you may have to put in your eID and password to see the folder

Once you fully connect, you should see normal folders under your eID. We recommend to save anything from App2Go in your "Documents" folder. When you are ready to save your work, select Save from any application in App2Go, and then click on  on the left, and then Librariesselect  . As a reminder, nothing here is saved on your actual device.

Accessing Desktops (Authorized Users Only)

This is only allowed for authorized individuals with specific needs and/or special configurations.  Individuals that have been assigned VDI systems will also need to use this process for access.

If you have been authorized for access, you can find your assigned systems under the "Desktops" tab in the Workspace window.

Click on the Icon representing the Device or Device Collection you wish to connect to.

A window should open presenting you with the screen/log in for the requested system.

Saving Data While Connected To A Desktop System

Below are the recommended options for saving while connected to systems via Citrix:

Network Shares such as your H: drive as these will be accessible from your other systems.

Your USB hard drive connected to your client if you are utilizing USB Pass through will show up in the device list as an option.NOTE:  See the next section for instruction if you don't see your device on the system.

Google Drive File Stream can be configured on the remote device if installed to save to your VCU Google Drive.

NOTE:  Unless you have been instructed otherwise, data saved to the local client will be wiped on disconnect.  The system should only be used to store data while working which should then be copied to one of the recommended storage areas before disconnect.

Passing Local USB Devices With The Citrix Client (Desktop Connections Only)

Using Citrix Workspaces, it is possible to pass some USB devices through to the remote connection.  Not all devices can be passed through, and some will require additional interaction/configuration from the user.  Below are a few steps that may assist with issues.

If you don't see your device, try bringing up the options menu at the top of the screen and clicking Devices to see if you need to activate your device.

If your USB Disk does not show up to the client, you may need to open preferences, look under the Devices tab, and change your USB mode from Optimized to Generic or vice versa depending on your device.

If you are trying to pass through a USB device such as an arduino, ST Link micro-controller, or other specialty device, you may have to make changes to your system to allow these types of devices to be passed though.  The steps below cover the process for each OS, but do note that not all devices work properly when done this way and some devices will have limited functionality.

Windows

NOTE:  This will require modifying your registry.  Modifying your registry incorrectly could cause issues and instability.  Please exercise caution when doing so.  You may also wish to backup/export the registry key before editing in order to be able to restore to default settings.  For more information on this, visit https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/322756/how-to-back-up-and-restore-the-registry-in-windows

1)  Open the windows registry editor and navigate to the key DeviceRules at the following paths:          64-bit Windows:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Citrix\ICA Client\GenericUSB     32-bit Windows:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\PortICA\GenericUSB

2)  Double click the DeviceRules key in order to edit it.  You should be presented a window similar to the picture below:

3)  Remove the following two lines:

     DENY: class=02 # Communications and CDC-Control     DENY: class=0a # CDC-Data

3)  Click OK to save the changes and restart your Citrix Workspace client.  You should then be able to connect to a system and have your micro-controller be available to the device you connected to.

macOS

NOTE:  This will require modifying a configuration file.  You may wish to make a backup of the file before you make changes to ensure you can restore the file if a mistake is made.

1)  Locate the file /Library/Application Support/Citrix Receiver/usb.conf       NOTE:  This is the system Library folder found under the Computer folder - NOT the User Library folder found in the menu bar and under your home folder

2)  Copy the file into a location that you have write privileges to such as your Desktop.

3)  Open the file in Text Editor and remove the following two lines:

     DENY: class=02 # Communications and CDC-Control     DENY: class=0a # CDC-Data

4)  Save the file and copy it back to the original location.  This will trigger a prompt for Authentication as an administrator for the machine.

5)  Select to Replace the file when prompted.

6)  Restart your Citrix Workspace app.  You should then be able to connect to a system and have your micro-controller be available to the device you connected to.
