Q: When can I submit my application? A: The CMS will be open for applicants:

Grandfathering Program, from January 15, 2019 through April 30, 2019.

Q: When will I know if my application has been approved? A: For the first offering of the CHIAP™ exam, all approved applicants will be notified simultaneously on March 31, 2019, after all applications have been reviewed. Approved Grandfathering Program applicants will be notified of their certification status in July 2019, after the close of the first exam cycle. Q: When and where will the first exam be

available?

A: The inaugural CHIAP™ exam cycle will run

from May 1, 2019 through June 30, 2019. The

175 secured, multiple-choice question exam will

be proctored by our exam vendor, PSi, which

has more than 250 test centers across the

United States, as well as international sites. A

complete list of testing locations will be made

available. Candidates will have four (4) hours to

complete the computer based exam.

Q: When will I know if I’ve passed the exam?

A: Scoring the results of the initial AHIA CHIAP™

exam cycle may take up to six (6) weeks from

the close of the exam cycle (June 30, 2019). You

should expect to receive your Score Report no

later than August 31, 2019. Candidates may

retake the exam two additional times during

the two (2) year examination eligibility period

(i.e., the date an applicant is notified their

application has been approved.)

Q: How do I study for the exam?

A: The primary and most important preparation

for the certification exam is healthcare internal

auditing experience. Through AHIA’s website a

new Virtual Learning Library will be launched in

January 2019, which will include selected

reference materials aligned with the

fundamental concepts and skills expected of a

healthcare internal auditor to support the

CHIAP™ Body of Knowledge. Note however,

that the study materials will not address

everything a healthcare internal auditor needs

to know. The exam is not limited simply to

material covered in study materials.

Q: How much does it cost to get certified?

A: The cost to apply for and take the CHIAP™

exam is $495 for AHIA members and $745 for

non-members. The fee for AHIA members to

apply for certification under the Grandfathering

Program is $395. The cost to renew a

certification is $100 for AHIA members and

$150 for non-members. A candidate may retake

the examination during their eligibility period at

a cost of $150. A complete fee schedule is

published in the CHIAP™ Candidate Handbook

available on AHIA’s website.

Q: What will the certification program require

for continuing professional education (CPE)?

A: 40 credits of CPE must be completed over 2

years in eligible education programs (approved

by NASBA or AHIA), including 2 credits in ethics,

with at least 10 credits earned per year.

Q: Where can I get more information? A: The CHIAP™ Candidate Handbook is available now on the AHIA website at www.ahia.org/certification/chiap. You can direct any certification related questions to [email protected].
