Foreword

These operating instructions provide you with detailed information concerning system set up andmaintenance of your new Rotary Tedder. In addition, the instructions also include safety instructionswhich ensure safe employment of the machine. The operating instructions contain descriptions of all theavailable equipment, the various models and all of the special and additional pieces of equipmentwhich are not usually included in the delivery.

These operating instructions are intended to aid you in getting the best possible use out of your newRotary Tedder.

The performance of your machine depends to a great extent on correct use and careful maintenance.For this reason, read the instructions carefully before the first system start up and always keep themnear at hand. By doing so you will avoid accidents, preserve the manufacturer’s warranty and alwaysenjoy the advantages of an efficient and reliable machine.

1 Safety

1.1 For your safety

On delivery, your dealer gave you an explanation of the operation and maintenance of the implement.Please read these operating instructions before operating the implement for the first time. It is essentialthat you observe all of the safety instructions. Parts of the text which are of particular importance aremarked with a pictogram.

This symbol can be found where all the important safety instructions appear in these

operating instructions. Strictly follow these instructions and take special care in these

cases.

This Rotary Tedder is equipped with safety devices and has been controlled by the German„Landwirtschaftliche Berufsgenossenschaft“ (Agricultural Trade Association) in terms of safety andaccident protection. However, incorrect use or mishandling of the implement can endanger:

� life and limb of the operator or other persons or animals who are standing within the vicinityof the implement,

� the implement and other material assets of the owner or third persons,

� the performance of the implement.

Anyone who is involved in installation, system start up, operation or maintenance of the implement mustread the following instructions very carefully and observe them at all times.

It’s a question of your safety!

1.2 Safety instructions contained in this manual

Safety alert signs:

Danger!

This sign signalizes the danger of accidents or injury leading to death.If you see this

safety alert sign in the operating instructions, make sure you employ every necessary

and prescribed safety precaution.

Attention!

This alert sign is a warning against the possibility of damage to equipment or of financialand penal disadvantages (e.g. loss of guarantee rights, product liability etc.).

1.3 Nameplate

The nameplate stating the machine type and serial number is fastened to the bracket on the left.

Note:

Enter the data on the nameplate in the box provided on page 5.

1.4 Application as stipulated

The Rotary Tedder is built solely for use in the field of agricultural work and is intended and suitable forthe processing of blades of grass and haulms which have been mown and are lying on the ground.

Use of the implement for any other purpose is considered as operation which is not in accordance withspecifications and is undertaken as such at the owner’s risk. The manufacturer is not liable for anyresulting damages!

The operation, maintenance and repair work conditions fall under the prescribed application stipulationslaid down by the manufacturer and must be adhered to at all times. The implement may only be operated,serviced and repaired by personnel who have read and understood these instructions and who havebeen thoroughly instructed of the inherent dangers.

All relevant accident prevention regulations, as well as all generally recognized safety, health andhighway regulations, must be complied with.

Attention!

Never carry out changes yourself; otherwise no warranty will be assumed for resultingdamage.

1.5 Liability and warranty

These operating instructions must be read and observed by all personnel who work on or with thisimplement. In addition, this implement is to be used solely for the purpose stipulated (see chapt. 1.4).

1. You may only work with this implement according to the instructions in the valid documentation.

2. The following regulations must be observed:

� all applicable local accident prevention regulations,

� all recognized traffic, safety and industrial medical regulations,

� the system limits and safety instructions listed in the technical manual.

3. Any work on the implement should be carried out using suitable, tools and apparatus in perfectcondition.

4. You may not use any parts (spares, accessories, lubricants etc.) other than those complying withimplement manufacturer’s requirements. All parts must be used according to the regulations(including the quoted starting torques).

A part complies with the manufacturer’s requirements when either genuine or approved by themanufacturer.

5. Never carry out changes yourself; otherwise no warranty will be assumed for resulting damage.

Attention!

Those who disregard the regulations mentioned above are acting with gross negligence.In this case the implement manufacturer’s liability and warranty no longer applies. Thesame applies for any resulting damage. The negligent person bears all risks.

1.6 Safety warning labels and pictorial warning signs

Attention!

Complete safety means that you are familiar with and understand all of the safety warninglabels. This means you must be fully aware of the type of dangers being warned against,exactly where they could occur and in particular, the appropriate safety measurement toemploy. Be alert at all times and always be aware of the the possible danger(s).

This implement has pictorial warning signs (safety warning labels). In the following safety warninglabels, the appropriate explanations are listed and illustrated.

2. You must read all maintenance and repair workinstructions before carrying out any maintenanceor repair work. Stop the engine and remove theignition key.

3. Keep away from the moving rotary stars. Beforeoperating the Rotary Tedder, make sure that

no-one is within reach of the implement!Before switching on the p.t.o., make sure that

no-one is within reach of the rotary stars!

4. Do not exceed the prescribed p.t.o. speed of540 rev/min.

5. Do not step between the tractor and theimplement. Danger of being caught or squeezed!

6. Do not lift the implement right up. The maximumpermitted height of the rear reflector is 0.9 mabove the ground.

7. When using the third support wheel, the upperguide rod must be mounted in the longitudinalhole of the headstock!

8. Keep out of the swivel zone of machines

9. Safety strap collides with the opened rear windowof the tractor during transport.

1.7 Authorized operators

Youths under the age of 16 may not operate the Rotary Tedder.

The owner of the implement must provide the operator with the operating instructions and make surethat they have read and understood them. Only then may the implement be put into operation.

The allocation of responsibilty for the various tasks on the implement must be clearly determined andcomplied with. There may be no uncertainties regarding authority, as these could endanger the safetyof the operator.

The owner must ensure that only authorized persons operate/work on the implement. He is responsiblefor any third persons within the working area of the Rotary Tedder.

1.8 General safety and accident prevention regulations

Fundamental rule:

Before the start of every operation check both the implement and the tractor for operation and roadsafety!

1.8.1 General

1. The appropriate warning and safety alert signs provide important advice to ensure the safe operationof the implement. Observe these instructions at all times, for the sake of your own safety!

2. Before operation, make yourself familiar with all elements and controls of the implement, as well aswith their function. Make sure that all protective equipment is correctly mounted!

3. The operator’s clothing should be close fitting. Avoid any loose fitting, wide clothing! Always wearsubstantial footware!

4. Keep the implement clean at all times! (Fire precaution)!

5. When travelling on public roads, observe the following:

� all traffic regulations in force in your country,

� the permissible axle load and total weight of the implement and

� the permissible transport dimensions!

Never leave the driver’s seat during the journey!

6. Before any transport on public roads, make sure the implement is in the condition prescribed andlock it in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions!

7. Inspect and install all equipment required for transportation such as lighting, warning andprotective devices!

8. All operating devices such as ropes, chains, rods, etc. which act on remote-controlled implementelements, have to be installed in such a way that any unintentional movement is excluded in allpossible transport and operating positions!

9. Couple the implement to the tractor at the prescribed position and secure according to the instructionsgiven in this manual! Proceed with special care when mounting and removing the implement on/from the tractor!

10.When mounting or dismounting the support devices, make sure that they are in the appropriateprescribed position in order to ensure stability! Only deposit the implement on level and solidground.

11.Ballast weights are only to be installed to the points designed for this purpose!

12.Do not leave the engine on within closed spaces (indoors)!

13.Before start up and operation, inspect the area around you. Make sure that no-one, (especiallychildren) is in the danger area! Good visibility is essential!

14.No-one (other than the driver) is allowed on the implement during transport! Persons required onthe implement during operation must not leave their work place and may only carry out the jobwhich requires their presence on the implement!

15.Always select the speed according to travel conditions. Avoid sudden turns when travelling up-hill,down-hill or across a slope!

16.Trailed implements and ballast weights, influence the driving of the implement and the steering andbraking performance! Make sure there is sufficient steering and braking capacity!

17.When negotiating curves take notice of the implement’s overhang and/or flywheel mass!

18.Make sure all protective devices are installed and in position before operating the implement!

19.Keep clear of the working and danger area of the implement!

20.Keep clear of the swinging/turning area of the implement!

21.Caution when working on implement elements operated by additional driving systems (e.g.hydraulics). There are squeezing and shearing points!

22.Secure the implement prior to leaving the tractor. Mounted implements have to be lowered completelyto the ground. Stop the engine and remove the ignition key!

23.No-one is allowed to step between the tractor and implement as long as the vehicle is not securedagainst unintentional movement by means of the parking brake and/or wheel chocks!

24.Observe the permissible axle load and total weight of the implement as well as the permissibletransport dimensions!

1.8.2 Mounted implements

1. Prior to mounting or uncoupling implements on/from the three-point linkage, all controls of thetractor hydraulics have to be positioned in such a way that any unintentional lifting or lowering ofthe implement is avoided!

2. In the case of three-point mounted implements, it is essential that the hitch category of the implementmatches that of the tractor!

3. There is danger of squeezing or sheering in the area of the three-point linkage!

4. Do not step between tractor and implement when operating the outer controls of the three-pointlinkage!

5. When the implement is in transport position, always make sure that there is a sufficient laterallimitation of the tractor three-point linkage!

6. When travelling on public roads with the implement lifted, make sure the control lever is securedagainst lowering!

1.8.3 Power take-off operation

Only valid for p.t.o.-driven implements.

1. Do not use p.t.o. shafts other than those specified by the manufacturer!

Make sure that the p.t.o. shaft is always properlyinstalled and secured!

The guard tube as well as the p.t.o shaft guard mustbe installed. All guards must be in excellent condition!

Hook in the chain to secure the p.t.o. shaft guardagainst rotation!

Take notice of the overlap prescribed for p.t.o. shafttubes, both in transport and operating position.

2. Keep all persons clear of the p.t.o. and p.t.o. shaft while the driving system is engaged!

3. If p.t.o. shafts with overload or slip clutches are used, these clutches have to be installed on theimplement side!

4. Before installing or removing the p.t.o. shaft, disengage the p.t.o., stop the engine and remove theignition key!

Place the detached p.t.o. shaft onto its support!

After the p.t.o. shaft is detached, slide the protective caps over the p.t.o. stub!

5. The p.t.o. shaft guard should be kept in the prescribed condition!

Before engaging the p.t.o., make sure the selected tractor p.t.o. speed and sense of rotationcorresponds with the permissible speed and sense of rotation on the implement!

Before engaging the p.t.o., make sure that no-one is in the danger area of the implement!

6. Never engage the p.t.o. when the engine is off!

7. Always switch off the p.t.o. if the angle becomes too great or if the p.t.o. is not needed!

8. Danger! Working elements continue to rotate after the p.t.o. is disengaged.! Keep clear of rotatingparts at all times!. Make sure the implement has stopped rotating before carrying out any work!

9. Before cleaning, lubricating or adjusting the p.t.o.-driven implements or the p.t.o. shaft, disengagethe p.t.o., stop the engine and remove the ignition key!

10.Repair any damage prior to working with the implement!

1.8.4 Hydraulics

1. Caution! The hydraulic system is under high pressure!

2. Check the hydraulic hoses at regular intervals and renew them when damaged or worn. The sparehoses must comply with the technical requirements laid down by the manufacturer of the implement!

3. Before working on the hydraulics lower the implement, release pressure from the system and stopthe tractor engine.

4. When tracing leakages use appropriate protective devices. Danger of injury!

5. When connecting hydraulic rams and motors, make sure the hydraulic hoses are coupled asprescribed!

Pressure should be released from the system both on the tractor and implement side prior to couplinghydraulic hoses to the tractor hydraulics!

6. In the case of hydraulic connections between tractor and implement, it is advisable to mark thecoupling sleeves and plugs to aviod any incorrect connections!

Should the hydraulic lines be confused, the inverse function may be actuated (e.g. lifting/lowering).Danger of accident!

7. Hydraulic oil forced out under high pressure can break the skin and cause severe damage! In thecase of injury by hydraulic oil, report immediately to a doctor as there is a risk of infection!

8. Do not exceed the maximal hydraulic pressure of 210 bar.

1.8.5 Tyres

1. Prior to working on the tyres, make sure the implement is standing safely and secured againstunintentional movements (wheel chocks)!

2. The installation of tyres and wheels presupposes special knowledge as well as the availability of allnecessary tools!

3. Repairing or mounting tyres and wheels may only be carried out by skilled workers using appropriatetools!

4. Check the inflation pressure at regular intervals. Take notice of the prescribed inflation pressure(1.5 bar)!

1.9 Safety when implement is not in use or is in storage

1. Store the implement in a safe place.

2. Make sure that no children play on or around the implement.

3. Only couple or dismount the implement on solid, dry and level ground. This minimizes the dangerof the implement tipping or sinking into the ground or mud.

4. Place the detached p.t.o. shaft onto its support!

5. Use wheel chocks and, when available, the safety brake to prevent the implement from rolling.

6. Store the implement with the lateral rotors folded up (danger of tipping, accidents due to tines)!

1.10 Maintenance

Directions quoted („right“, „left“, „in front“,“behind“) are always taken as being in the direction oftravel.

The sense of rotation is defined as follows:

� Rotation sense right = clockwise,

� Rotation sense left = anticlockwise,

� Rotations around a vertical axis, taken from top to bottom,

� Rotations around a horizontal axis, at a right angle to the direction of travel, taken from left toright,

� Rotations of nuts, bolts etc. are always taken from the actuation direction.

1. As a rule, disengage the driving system and stop the engine prior to carrying out any maintenance,servicing, cleaning or repair work! Always remove the ignition key!

2. Check all bolts and nuts at regular intervals and retighten as required. Comply with prescribedtorques!

3. Prop the implement with appropriate supports before carrying out maintenance work on the liftedimplement!

4. When changing working elements use appropriate tools and protective gloves !

5. Discard used oil, grease and filters according to regulations!

6. Always disconnect the power suppy (current) before carrying out any work on the electrical system!

7. The protection devices which are subject to wear and tear must be inspected frequently and beexchanged in good time.

8. The generator and battery cables should be disconnected before any electrical welding is carriedout on the tractor or the mounted implements!

1.11 Safety instructions for the Rotary Tedder

1. General safety instructions are contained in this documentation (and in Germany additionally in theaccident prevention regulation VSG 1.1, 01.01.2000, of the "LandwirtschaftlicheBerufsgenossenschaft" (Agricultural Trade Association).

2. Prior to mounting the implement or lifting the implement for the first time, check the space available.

3. Check the p.t.o. shaft before the first operation, and adjust it according to your implement (seechapt. „modifying the drive shaft to suit the tractor“).

4. Check the tyre pressure (1.5 bar) at regular intervals.

5. Before each transport:

� stop tractor p.t.o.,

� wait until rotary arms come to a complete standstill,

� put the implement in transport position,

� check to see if locking is correct,

� lock the control valve.

6. Make sure that no-one is within reach of the implement when lifting, lowering, and swinging in therotary arms.

7. Please observe that the three-point mounting models swing back into central position when lifting.

8. Repair work on post- tensioned energy storers (springs, accumulators etc.) may only be carried outby specialists using the correct tools which comply with all prescribed standards. All such repairsmay only be carried out in specialist workshops!

9. You must read all maintenance and repair work instructions before carrying out any maintenanceor repair work. Stop the engine and remove the ignition key.

10.Keep away from the rotating arms. Before operating the Rotary Tedder, make sure that no-oneis within reach of the implement! Before switching on the p.t.o., make sure that no-one is withinreach of the rotary arms!

11.Do not exceed the prescribed p.t.o. speed of 540 rev/min!

12.Do not step between the tractor and the implement. Danger of being caught or squeezed!

13.Stay clear of the lifting area of the three-point mounting when operating the lifting unit!

14.After approx. 5 operating hours, all screw connections must be inspected and if necessary,retightened. Make sure the torque is correct!

15.Place the p.t.o. in the chain provided when the implement is deposited.

3 Operation

3.1 Mounting on the tractor

Danger!

The implement should be at a stand-still

whenever maintenance, repairs or

adjustments are carried out. Stop the

engine and remove the ignition key.

Fitting the machine:

� Hook up the machine to the upper and lower linksand lock with spring or hinged pin. Fix both links tothe side of the tractor.

Hook the upper link into the longitudinal hole onlywhen the landwheel is fitted!

� Fasten the jointed shaft to the PTO and lock jointedshaft safeguard to tractor with a chain to prevent ittwisting (see chapter 1.8.3).

� Connect the hydraulic hose to a simple control uniton the tractor.

� Place the cord for operating the locking hooks inthe tractor cab.

� Lift and lock the parking support.

Mounting the PTO shaft:

Before mounting the propeller shaft, check that it ispositioned in the right place. There are correspondingmarkings on the propeller shaft safeguard.

1. On both tractor and machine, the propeller shaft isheld with a retention pin on the journal shaft stump.Make sure it fits properly!

2. Check the length of the propeller shaft aftermounting it completely, before starting operationof the machine! (see chapter 3.2).

3.2 Modifying the drive shaft to suit thetractor

The p.t.o. stub position varies with different tractors andfor this reason it may be necessary to shorten the driveshaft. Check the length of the shaft before first use asfollows:

Danger!

� Pull the drive shaft sections apart and fit them tothe p.t.o. stub ends - clutch end towards the tractor.

� Place the two sections alongside each other andcheck, with the implement raised or lowered, instraight line or turning position, that there is:

� an overlap (b) of at least 150 mm, and

� the drive shaft has a clearance (a) of at least20mm.

� If it is necessary to shorten the shaft both sectionsmust be reduced equally.

� Rub down the tube ends, remove any swarf andgrease the sliding surfaces.

2. Collapse the machine. To do so, move the controlunit to ”lift” until the locking hooks have engagedon both sides. (Fig. C)

3. Lift the machine.

1. Lower the machine.

2. Pull the cable to loosen the locking device on theside machines. (Fig. A)

3. Lower the side machines to the working positionusing the tractor control unit.

4. Equipped with hinged hoop guard and tine arms:

Swivel out the hinged tine arms into workingposition, and unfold the hoop guard. (Fig. Band C).

3.5 Adjusting the tines

Rotor angle:

The rotor angle is adjusted by positioning the wheelaxles. Two settings can be selected without needingany tools.

Note:

Choose the flat angle for short crops andthe steep angle for long crops!

Check that the same adjustment is made to all wheelaxles!

Tine height:

The height of the tines above the ground is adjusted bythe length of the upper link.

The tines should just touch the ground, depending oncrop volume and quality.

3.6 Operating the machine

3.6.1 General

Select a travelling speed at which all the crop can be harvested neatly. Do not hold the sliding clutchfor longer than 10 seconds. Change down a gear when under overload. Switch off the PTO when thejointed shaft is at a steep angle.

The spread of the crop can be influenced by changing the PTO speed. Correct adjustment of the tinesis a precondition for achieving optimum spread. Lift the machine in narrow curves and when reversing.Set the tractor control unit to “idle” (float setting), so that the side machines adjust to unevenness of theground.

You can carry out the following tasks with the Tedder:

In the working position –neutral/middle– the stopperlatch is in position „b“.

When clearing the edges of the field –to the left–(fig. a at top), the stopper latch is to be pulled over thehaulage cable. Pull the machine at a diagonal with thetractor so that the running wheels of the tedder turn tothe left. Hold the haulage cable loose until the stopperlatch engages in position „a“.

When clearing the edges of the field –to the right–(fig. b at top), the stopper latch is to be pulled over thehaulage cable. Pull the machine at a diagonal with thetractor so that the running wheels of the tedder turn tothe right. Hold the haulage cable loose until the stopperlatch engages in position “c”.

To return to the working position –neutral/middle–,pull the haulage cable “1” again and push the machinestraight backwards until the stopper latch engages inthe middle position “b”.

The diagonal axles mean that the field edges can becleared with the headstock machines. This setting makesmaximum use of the swivel range. This is why themachine has to be raised in curves away from the edgeof the field or at the end of the field.

Caution!

When raised, the machine swivels backinto the middle position!

3.7 Unhooking from the tractor

Caution!

Only park the machine when the sidemachines have been lowered (risk oftipping).

Before lowering the side machines, checkthat there is no-one in the swivel range!

� Pull the cable to unlock the side machines.

� Lower the side machines to working position viathe tractor control unit.

4. Setting work

4.1 Tine setting.

Check the tine setting and readjust if necessary:

� unscrew hexagonal nut (c) and locknut (d)

� adjust tines by adjusting the stopper screw (x) sothat the gauge is parallel for (a) and (b).

Typ 6592: Angle y = 97°Typ 6593: Angle y = 92°

� Tighten hexagonal nut (c) and locknut (d) again.The torque for fastening the tines (c) is 120 Nm.

Caution!

The stopper screw (x) must be positionedat the tine eyelet so that the tine cannotbecome misadjusted.

4.2 Wheels

If the wheels have to be changed, the wheel nuts shouldonly be tightened with 20 Nm to prevent damage tothe plastic rings.

Check tyre pressure regularly: 1.5 bar

4.3 Vibration pads

The vibration pads mounted on both sides of theheadstock base and middle machine guarantee quietrunning of the machine at work, without vibrations.

When the dampening effect abates, the spring washerpackages „a“ are to be tightened to increase thedampening effect. To do so, tighten the nuts.

(1/4 turn on a nut corresponds to approx. 200N = 20 kg).

5. Maintenance

5.1 Inspection

Check the Tedder carefully after approx. 5 operatinghours. Check and where necessary tighten all screws,particularly spring tines, rotor arms and wheel axles.

Torques:

C rotor arms, inside = 130 Nm

D wheel axles. = 20 Nm

5.2 Lubrication

Keep to the prescribed maintenance and lubricatingintervals to ensure a long service life for your machine.

Use lubricating grease K2 k to DIN 51825, for exampleDeutzer oil HFL 300 W, or Shell Retinax A.

Before using the grease gun, clean the lube nipplesand the application nipple of the grease gun.

6.1 Hydraulic diagonal device

Instead of the mechanical adjustment for diagonalworking mode, a hydraulic cylinder can be fitted forcontrol from the driving seat of the tractor.

A double-acting control unit is required in addition tothe single-acting control unit.

Mount the hydraulic cylinder and connect the hydraulichoses to the cylinder, route them as shown in thediagram and position with the supplied fastening parts.

Danger!

Remove the mechanical device and the

steering rope before using the hydraulic

system! Danger of damage!

6.2 Swathing mode

First mount the protective funnel to the swathe gear asshown in the diagram, and remove the safeguardmounted to the gear housing.

� Clean extension housing and wedge profile

� Remove plastic cap from swathe gear, slide swathegear onto extension housing (possibly gentlyknocking the chain wheel hub (B)) and secure withcirclip.

� Turn clamping screw (A) in correspondingcountersunk groove in the extension housing andsecure with locknut.

For raking operations, the jointed shaft is mounted onthe lateral drive stump. Select travel speed and rotorspeed to produce perfect swathes.

6.3 Tine loss safeguard

The flexible plastic holders can be easily clamped andloosened again. If a tine now breaks off, it is held bythe adjacent tine. It does not get lost and can thereforecause no damage to following machines, e.g. cuttingmachine. The screws are correctly tightened when thescrew thread protrudes 6 mm out of the hexagonalnut.

6.4 Warning signs and lighting

The special permit for road traffic regula-tions (StVZO) requires that all attached andtrailed agricultural equipment is providedwith lamps when travelling on public roads.A fitting lamp set can be supplied byKverneland.Detailed instructions are included.

6.5 Landwheel

To prevent damage to the grass sods even when theground is very uneven, while still ensuring that no cropsare left on the field, a landwheel can be fitted as optionalfeature to the headstock near the tine fitting.

Mounting to the machine:

The arm (c) of the landwheel is screwed to the left-hand headstock tube (a) using the two U-screws (d).The lower U-screw must be positioned just under theupper guide of the support foot, and the anti-distortionsafeguard (b) (welded to the headstock tube) must bepositioned between the two angle profiles of thelandwheel arm (c).

When the machine is working, ensure that the arm (c)is not in contact with the jointed wheel when themachine is raised to go round corners. If necessary,adjust the lower link.

Mounting to the tractor:

Transfer the upper link from one of the bores at thebottom of the headstock (n) to the longitudinal hole atthe top (s), using the special bolt included in the supply(t).

Caution!

The upper link bolt must be positioned aboutin the middle of the longitudinal hole whenthe machine has been lowered, so that themachine can follow the uneven surface ofthe ground.

For road transport, move the safety lever“i”, thus preventing the machine fromjolting unnecessarily when moving overpoor road surfaces.

6.8 Additional running gear

The transport running gear relieves load on the 3-ptheadstock which means less weight transferred fromthe tractor front axle during transport. For the workingconfiguration the running gear is folded up by a doubleacting hydraulic ram, whilst for transport the runninggear is folded down, thus raising the machine clear ofthe ground.
