FAN Mission To offer assistance, possibility, and hope to Central Oregon families in need by connecting them with crucial resources that will help children flourish in school and in life.

But our advocates couldn’t do their life-changing work without the hard work and dedication of our FAN Foundation board and staff. Thank you to all the generous FAN supporters who attended our first annual luncheon in Redmond, those who began or continued monthly giving to FAN, provided a matching donation, hosted a business event, awarded us a grant or attended a FAN school tour. We had an incredible year and your support made it possible. We recently revised the FAN mission statement to more accurately reflect what we do: To offer assistance, possibility and hope to Central Oregon families in need by connecting them with crucial resources that will help children flourish in school and in life. Helping children flourish. I can’t think of a more noble cause. Can you?

Or if we can afford to buy them clothes that fit (and we all know how fast kids grow!). Unfortunately, these are just a few of the terrifying questions that many parents in Central Oregon face on a daily basis. That’s why I’m so proud to be involved with FAN. Kids that go without basic needs lack confidence and the ability to concentrate on their job, which is getting a good education. Our compassionate FAN advocates connect struggling families with the various resources in our community to help meet their needs and keep their children safely in school. This past school year, our amazing advocates worked with over 9,000 children and family members doing just that.

Karen was a young mom with two toddler-aged daughters to support, and was struggling to make it. She worked a part-time job that just barely paid the bills, but when she was laid off she could no longer afford her apartment. After they were evicted, Karen had no other family in Central Oregon and nowhere else to stay. The family was living at a local homeless shelter when they first visited the FAN office. Overcome with despair, Karen desperately wanted a better life for her daughters.

The FAN advocate welcomed Karen with open arms, and referred her to a community partner for housing assistance, connected them to mental health counseling, and provided food, a hygiene bag, and some warm blankets to call their own. Several days later, Karen stopped by the FAN advocate’s office with a bright smile and an update: She had made great progress with the community partner and was on her way to securing permanent housing. Karen was grateful to have the warm support of the FAN advocate, who helped her pave her own way towards a better life for her family.
