Stonehenge isa prehistoric monument located in the Englishcounty of Wiltshire,about 3.2 kilometres(2.0 mi) westof Amesbury and
13 kilometres (8.1 mi)north of Salisbury. Oneof the most famoussites in the world,Stonehenge iscomposedof earthworks surrounding a circular setting oflarge standing stones.It is at the centre of the
most dense complex ofNeolithic and BronzeAge monuments inEngland, includingseveral hundred burialmounds. Stonehengewas produced by aculture that left nowritten records. Manyaspects of Stonehenge
remain subject todebate. Thismultiplicity of theories,some of them verycolourful, are oftencalled the "mystery ofStonehenge.
