Grandfather Čech

Brothers Lech and Čech lived together near the river Visla, but their people were not happy - Slaves had many ennemies and the brothers decided to find a new homeland

They all gathered with their belongings and cattels and went on journey

They came to mountain Říp – Čech went up and said „This is promised land full of birds, flowing with honey“

The people settlet and and gave it the name by Čech They lived happily and after, Lech and Čech said goodbay and

went to the east

Krok and his daughters

Forefather Čech was remplaced by duke Krok who settled on castle Budeč

Budeč – centre of wisdom, divine and witcher Krok had three daughters : Kazi, Teta and Libuše Krok got a message that the castle would be threatened so he

found a new place to seat

Libuše – mythical princess, like her father Krok, she judged argument between people

Once, she judged two neighbours, the argument was about an older man taking a youger man´s field

The older man was very angry a wanted a man to judge them Libuše agreed and asked where they could find her a

husband

Once she predicted fame for a big city She described to them where and told them to build a castle

there They choosed to name the big city PRAGUE

Beginnings of the Czech state

There were many Slaves clans the most powerful were Přemyslovci the first Přemyslovec –Bořivoj he had a wife Ludmila they were grandparents of saint Wenceslas Ludmila wanted young Wenceslas to be a christian, but Drahomíra (his mother) want himto be a paganist Ludmila taught him how to read and write Drahomíra was jelous so she hired assassins to kill Ludmila she was killed on castle Tetín

When Wenceslas grew up, he got the power His brother Boleslav didn´t want to pay tribute to other

countries Boleslav invited Wenceslavs for dinner and killed him After Wenceslav death he became saint

Oldřich and Božena

Oldřich – Czech king, he liked riding on his horse and hunting animals, he met a washer woman Božena and he liked her from the first look

All the time, on the way to his home, he was thinking about her

He created plans how to get her – he sent his people and horse to Božena with precious gift

There was a big wedding and nobody minded that Božena wasn´t of noble birth

Lucemburgs dynasty

Lucemburgs dynasty the last king of Přemysl dynasty – Václav III Jan Lucemburg married Eliška Přemyslovna

Jan Lucemburský great warior of that time, worse king he didn´t care of the Czech country, he used it just as a source of money

First defenestration of Prague

The first defenestration on 30 July 1419 It involved the killing of 7 members of city councils by a crowd of radical Czech Hussites The town council had refused to exchange the Hussite prisoners while the Hussites were marching, a stone was thrown at one person from the window of the town hall - this enraged the mob they stormed the town hall the Hussites threw the judges and some of 13 members of

the town council out of the window and into the street, where they were killed

Golem - legend

Rabbi Low made a clay golem on the river bank. He put into his mouth magic list and golem revived. When he brought him home, a woman sent the golem to bring water. When she went to the market and returned, she saw the golem as pouring a pail at a time until the street resembled like a river. In the second case, he sent him to buy apples and he brought the whole stand with a sales woman.

Golem - legend

Golem couldn´t stay without work for a long time and that every day received commands from Rabbi. Once golem forgot and he hit the stress. He was destroying stuff, demolishing houses, pulling trees and changed the Jewish Quarter in the desert. Rabbi knew that Golem could be dangerous and he decided get turn of Golem.

About Faust House

At the beginning, a doctor who could do magic lived there. He decided to want more property and made a contract with the devil. When the time run out devil came to house and carried throuth the roof.

One day, a man slept in the house and in the morning, he found a gold coin on the table. It happened every day. After some day, the boy wanted more money. One day, the boy was never seen again.

National theatre

Once the Czech were playing only performances in German Idea to built the Czech theatre They collected money from people and after many years, they finally laid the headstone, The theatre was very expesive Even thought counstruction was not completed, they started to play in it

Shortly after that, the theatre burnt down Once again, they started collectiong money from people The theatre was re-opened on 18th November 1883 On the balcon, there are painting painted by Mikoláš Aleš and František Ženíšek
