• Talk to your kids and ask direct questions. Pray for and with them. Model for your children.

• All electronics are only used I public areas. – How do you handle a teenager with a laptop?

• Charge all mobile devices in a family safe area at night.

• Pick your battles on what matters most to best meet your needs: blocking Internet porn, knowing the location of your child’s device, speeding, etc.

Android v/s iOS (Apple)

• Much easier to control the entire phone on Android.

– Children may more likely be suspicious of being spied on or otherwise with Android.

• Apple has some excellent controls that are intuitive and highly effective when coupled with relationships and other strategies.

• Anti-virus, backup, etc. • Internet filtering and logging; black/white listing • Text/chat monitoring and logging • Ratings for media (e.g. PG13 or less) • Geolocation and tracking • Eavesdropping and video captures • Find your phone • Time of use, disable calls (careful, 911 considerations) • Specific app controls (e.g. YouTube) • Social Networking (friends, comms, posts…) • Lock the phone and alarm siren • Speeding

How Kids Subvert Controls

• “Private browsing” or clearing history • Minimizing browsers/open new windows • Terminate or hack a monitoring program/abuse admin • Proxy through another site to get to a blocked website • Use in-app solutions like YouTube, SnapChat private
