Letter from the Headmaster

Dear Archway Families and Friends,

Yesterday fourth graders at ANP celebrated Wild West Days. While I was shootin’ the breeze with some of the teachers, a group of suspicious looking characters circled me. Mustering my best cowboy voice, I greeted them with a hearty, “Howdy, pardners.”

There were some snickers and a murmuring of “Are you going to ask him?”; “No, you ask him,” to which I interjected, “How can I help you girls?”

“Mr. Fee, can we give you a shave?”

“Why, certainly,” I replied. “I’ve been itchin’ for a good shave now for a month of Sundays.”

The Barbershop was one of several stations for Wild West Days. They lathered me up with Barbasol before beginning the fine work of shaving my face with a popsicle stick. I was soon surrounded by what seemed like a dozen barbers and the shaving cream ended

up on every portion of my face. After the laughter-filled shave, I decided it was time for a selfie with my barbershop quartet, so we put on our best serious faces, because that’s how real cowboys would have posed.

With a refreshingly smooth face, I then visited some of the other stations including the wheelbarrow races, the tinsmith, cornhole, and horseshoe tossin’. I stopped by one tent for a bowl of pork ‘n’ beans and had to get a raincheck for a swig of root beer because there had already been a run on the supply. At each stop there were the glorious sounds of glee as our young’uns reveled in one another’s company. As a fitting finish to my Wild West afternoon, I kicked up my heels in a hoedown, do-si-doing, swingin’ my pardner roun’, and yee-hawing with the best of them.

The experience brought much joy to the Western heart of my childhood memories. A special thank you goes out to Ms. Raper and the fourth-grade team for all of their hard work in coordinating the effort as well as the many parent volunteers who made the day so special. Moments like these are part of what makes ANP such a special place to learn, grow, and belong.

Truly,

Curtis Fee Headmaster

As a reminder, there is no supervision provided at the school prior to 7:30 a.m. Our recommendation for your children’s safety is that scholars remain in vehicles with parents until supervised drop-off procedures begin at 7:30.
