Grapevine!

With the nights drawing in and the temperature dropping we’re probably all tempted to hunker down and sit out the Winter in front of the telly. But it’s not all doom and gloom... winter also brings CHRISTMAS - beloved by children (of all ages!) everywhere! :0)

Here in the Grapevine there are not only updated listings and adverts signposting you to everything you could possibly want or need for your kids locally, but also a whole shed-load of competitions to make this Christmas extra special!

I am still raising money for CLIC Sargent and have started training for my big Jordan trek, which will be taking place next April. Shrewsbury Toy Library Shrewsbury Toy Library is a registered chaity and has been running for over 25years but has recently seen numbers drop, the most common thing we hear when visitors do come is that they are unaware we exist and offer the service we do.Shrewsbury Toy Library operates on Mondays and Thursdays 9.15 - 11.15am from Crowmoor School, Monkmoor and Tuesdays 10am - 1pm from The Eileen Sandford Community Centre, Harlescott.As a group we offer a stay and play session which costs just £1 per family/childminder group and that includes entry, crafts and a healthy snack for the children, refreshments are also available for adults to purchase.We have an extensive catalogue of toys both indoor & outdoor ranging from babies to pre-school age to hire from as little as 50p to £2 per week.People often hire out toys for their children’s birthday parties, we can also loan out pre-school tables and chairs. JO JINGLES –Celebrating 10 Years of Music Classes in the Telford area!

It’s never too early to develop an interest in music as Clare O’Hara knows from seeing children’s responses in her Jo Jingles classes. Clare started her first Jo Jingles classes in the Telford area in 2002 and is continually thrilled by how children’s development is enhanced by exposure to music from a young age. “It really is incredible how young children gain in confidence from being involved with music. The classes are great fun, and the response from all the babies and children always puts a smile on your face. As I’ve been running classes locally for ten years, I now have parents bringing their third child to classes.’ Clare believes that Jo Jingles’ popularity is due to its careful programming that incorporates structured learning, within a fun and musical environment. The emphasis

is on enjoyment, with the hope that very young children will go on to enjoy music for the rest of their lives. Educational research shows that music has an enormous part to play in a child’s early development, helping to build confidence and social skills. In addition, singing, dancing and playing musical instruments develops language skills and improves co-ordination.Jo Jingles provides fun sessions with an educational slant. It originated in Buckinghamshire in 1991 and having launched as a national franchise in 1995, it is a huge hit with babies and young children in more than 500 locations throughout the UK and Ireland. There are even classes in Australia now!The Jo Jingles programme follows national curriculum guidelines for key stage 1 and early years, and is devised with the help of music specialists. Classes are age specific, for babies and children aged from 3 months to 5 years of age. We also welcome children with hearing and learning difficulties into the groups. The theme of the classes changes each week, in order to cover the basic pre-school themes such as numbers, the alphabet, colours, weather and general life experiences. Parents and carers are encouraged to join in the Jo Jingles classes with their children - the emphasis being very much on fun and informality! Following another record breaking pantomime last year, Theatre Severn and Evolution Productions hope to continue the success story with GIANT family pantomime JACK AND THE BEANSTALK. Evolution Productions is run by Telford-born Paul Hendy and his wife, Emily Wood. Paul is well known as a TV presenter, script-writer and comedy novelist whilst Emily comes from a theatrical dynasty. Paul and Emily formed Evolution in 2005 and the company has gone from strength to strength ever since. The Daily Mail recently reported three of Evolution’s shows as being in the ‘Top Ten Pantomimes in the Country’. Paul Hendy says “As a local lad, I am absolutely thrilled to be producing at Theatre Severn. Emily and I are very proud of our reputation for producing some of the best pantomimes in the country”.Evolution have again secured the services of a hugely talented cast of theatre and panto professionals to perform Jack and the Beanstalk at Theatre Severn. Brad Fitt, listed as best 'Ugly Sister' alongside Matthew Kelly in the Sunday Telegraph’s pantomime list, returns to

Shrewsbury after delighting audiences as Widow Twankey in Aladdin last year, and takes the role of Dame Trott. BBC Radio Shropshire’s Eric Smith will be a familiar face to audiences as the King Eric, and Adam Moss will bring plenty of comedy and chaos and Billy Trott. Jack and the Beanstalk will open on Thursday 6 December and run until Sunday 13 January.
