e opened our doors in 1976 as a safe place for youth in crisis.
Because of the numerous students needing counseling assistance, a school based counseling program began six years later. In 1986, we relocated and built an 18 bed Residential Youth Center on our 22 acre campus. Since that time, we opened Project HOPE Street Outreach Services in Birmingham (1992) and built a Community Counseling Center on our Alabaster campus (2004).

FOR MORE INFORMATION
Family Connection’s Residential Youth Center is the only shelter in Shelby County caring for youth in the midst of crisis. Our goal is to stabilize the lives of young people and reunite them with their families whenever possible. For many of the youth in our shelter, it is the first time that they feel safe, that they matter and that they have within them what it takes to succeed in life.

Working to eliminate youth homelessness
Family Connection’s Street Outreach Team travels to where homeless youth are located…on the streets. The Team arrives in a van equipped with basic needs including food, clothing, hygiene and first aid supplies. The van is also used to transport youth to our drop-in day shelter, overnight shelter and other community resources.
Our drop-in day shelter is located in Birmingham at 1321 7th Avenue North. Services include basic necessities such as food, clothing, hygiene, lockers, and access to showers, washers, phone, computers and email. Support services address a variety of needs including referrals for housing, employment, and education. We provide a safe trusting environment for homeless youth and help them move out of homelessness and onto the path of self-sufficiency.
began in 1976 as Shelby Youth Attention Home to provide a safe place for youth in crisis. Today, Family Connection has expanded to become a multiservice youth agency offering safety and support for vulnerable and disconnected young people. Our approach is to provide services that
enable youth and their families to develop positive and healthy lifestyles.
