Together, the Board and staff of Family & Children’s Service are deeply committed to the mission of building bright futures for families, children, and individuals of all ages.

Guided by our core values: Belief and Investment in the Capacity of All People; Commitment toSocial Equality; Responsibility to Quality Service and Implementation of Best Practices; and Engaging in Holistic Collaboration, we work toward the goal of “becoming more efficient and provide services to a larger sector of residents in the neediest communities in our area.”

2018 can doubtlessly be described as an exciting, productive and transitional year in our 134-year history of working to meet the needs of the less fortunate. We embarked on the implementation of year one of our 2018-2023 Strategic Plan which brought anticipated and unforeseen challenges that were addressed with honesty and vigor.

We achieved an important benchmark in our Marketing and Development objectives. Assisted by Empower Success Corp., we conducted an exhaustive analysis of our name, branding, andmessaging. After months of work, we succeeded in re-visualizing our brand and updating andrefining our messaging and visual presentation. We are positive about this process and grateful for the excellent work Empower Success Corp. gave us. In the months ahead, we will continue the work of mapping out our next steps.

It may sound as if 2018 was all hard work and no play. No way. Our November 3rd Giving Thanks Gala honoring former Board Member Frannie Hall was a huge success due to the creativity and hard work of volunteers, and staff.

For 48 years, Frannie Hall devoted herself to helping Family and Children’s Service meet the needs of the community. In gratitude for her dedication and commitment, we honored her and celebrated the big place that she occupies in our hearts. That evening, Executive Director Maroli Licardie announced the establishment of the Frances Hall Service Award. This annual award will be given to an employee of Family & Children’s Service to help finance their professional development pursuits.

The Giving Thanks Gala celebration was a joy-filled evening enriched by a beautiful setting, lively music, and dancing. We all are grateful to the Hall family and all those who helped in making the Giving Thanks Gala a great success.

I am personally grateful to be a part of the work being done by Family and Children’s Service that helps those less fortunate to build a bright future and I look forward to the work ahead.

Sincerely,

Virginia S. FieldPresident of the Board of Directors

“I felt very welcomed, you learn new things with other moms who are the same age as you and who have children the same age. The group felt like home. There was so much diversity because

the moms were all from different countries.”

Parenting has been called the most difficult job in the world, but parents cannot give to their children what they do not possess. We believe that despite factors that influence a parent’s ability to successfully nurture, parenting can be transformed through the power of education, support, coaching, and community. Working from the inside out, that transformation begins with the development and strengthening of an individual’s core capacities and ripples out from there. We focus on providing concrete skills that not only address immediate needs, but also equip parents to navigate whatever life may bring in the future. Our classes, support groups, and home visits deliver proven evidence-informed skills, strategies, and competencies to develop assets in socially vulnerable parents so that every child is given the opportunity to thrive. The impact is both deep: to future generations, and wide to the broader community.
