Financial Accountability

Central Ohio Youth for Christ was founded in 1981 as a locally governed and chartered affiliate of Youth for Christ USA. COYFC is registered in the state of Ohio as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. A full and independent audit is available upon request. Management of COYFC is overseen by the Executive Director and an independent Board of Trustees.

Dear Ministry Partners,

Without a doubt, 2009 presented many challenges

for our team at Central Ohio Youth for Christ.

However, we can also reflect on how God blessed

our efforts in amazing and surprising ways.

Despite decreased resources, we had our best year

of evangelistic ministry to date! And thousands

more teens and their families were impacted in various ways by the

loving interactions of our staff and volunteers.

Here are a few examples of our impact from this past year:

n Five teen moms earned their high school degree through our

Teen Parents program. Two moms are now taking classes

through Columbus State and the others are employed by local

businesses. The exciting part is that as a group these moms are

starting to see that they can aspire to more in life than being a

single parent on government assistance.

n We are seeing an emerging core of 20-25 young adults

from our urban ministry who are committed to Christ and

desire to seve the younger teens in the neighborhood. This

emerging group is significant in its impact with the younger

neighborhood teens who see living examples of Christ’s impact

in the lives of these young leaders.

n More than 2,000 teens have visited “YFC Discovery Island”

located in an internet based 3-Dimensional world called

Teen Second Life. This site is a cutting edge destination

for thousands of teens on the internet. About 25 young

people have made decisions for Christ and many more have

recommitted their lives to Him. Many of these teens are

homebound and state that this the only means available to

them to study the Bible with kids their own age.

n WellSpring Counselors served 1,135 new clients and totaled

10,107 counseling sessions. In addition, WellSpring recently

earned accreditation to provide Continuing Educational Units

for counselors and social workers in Ohio.

God has definitely given COYFC great opportunity to serve Him in

Central Ohio. We see quantitative and qualitative evidence that

we are truly changing lives, strengthening families and impacting

the communities in which we serve. We are deeply grateful to our

many partners who have helped make this happen this year. Thank

You! We look forward to what He has in store for us in 2010.

Our Mission

YFC reaches young people everywhere, working

together with the local church and other

like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers

of Jesus who lead by

their godliness in lifestyle,

devotion to prayer and the

Word of God, passion for

sharing the love of Christ

and commitment to social

involvement.

2009 Ministry Outcomes

Central Ohio Youth for Christ served more than 4,000 teens and families through the commitment of 77 paid staff and counselors and more than 180 volunteers.

WellSpring Counseling provided 10,107 counseling sessions and awarded nearly $500,000 in counseling scholarships for more than 2,000 clients

COYFC records spiritual responses in five areas:

n 1,562 non-Christian teens were presented with the Gospel

n 335 made first-time decisions for Christn 40 completed an extensive follow-up programn 30 youth committed to participate in a mentor/

discipleship relationshipn 314 joined a church

Social outcomes for students involved in our urban work are measured as follows:

Total number of students 510____________________________________________Regular participants (attend two or more meetings for two or more months in a row) 218____________________________________________No involvement with juvenile justice delinquency program 208 (95%)____________________________________________Remained in school, graduated, obtained GED or obtained full-time employment 215 (98%)____________________________________________ No drug or alcohol use 186 (85%)____________________________________________ Females who did not become pregnant and males who did not become parents 215 (98%)

Central Ohio Youth for Christ believes that every young person has value and

potential to be a successful, well-adjusted adult. Our staff and volunteers are

committed to working with these youth over the long haul to this end. In our

29 years of ministry we’ve successfully engaged many youth from diverse and

challenging backgrounds and helped them make positive life choices. We do

this by focusing on building quality relationships with the teens because these

relationships are what help create the context for real life change.

WellSpring believes life can be different!

Through our more than 40 counselors, coaches,

and masters student interns we are able to

make professionally-trained, biblically-sound counseling and coaching

affordable. Through our 28 satellite offices throughout Central Ohio we are

able to make sound, caring counsel for children, teens, adults and families easily

accessible. WellSpring also works with churches to provide workshops and

training in marriage, parenting, grief, finances and much more.

YFC Online program director Christy Talbert

facilitates virtual Campus Life club meetings

through a site called Teen SecondLife. This

is the only YFC meeting in the country that

is held completely via the internet. New

youth visit the site every week, and many

of them come back to learn more about

Christ. Teens from all over the world

participate, and many of them say it

is the only means available to them

to study the Bible due to health or

logistical reasons.

Five Ministry Strategies – Real Life Change

Campus Life workers build mentoring relationships with junior and

senior high school students on the East side of Columbus including

Bexley, Reynoldsburg and Johnstown. Our staff and volunteers

equip teens with the skills they need to live in a turbulent world, and

introduce them to the person of Jesus Christ and the truth of the

Bible. Teens are challenged to consider life from God’s perspective in settings such as

after-school club meetings, one-to-one relationships with caring adults, retreats and

community service opportunities.

Our Juvenile Justice program provides emotional and spiritual

support for youth being held at the two juvenile detention centers in

Central Ohio. Staff and volunteers meet individually with interested

youth to answer questions and provide relevant help. They also

provide inspirational messages through large group meetings.

Juvenile Justice staff also help to connect youth who are exiting the detention centers

with positive adult mentoring opportunities through our BridgeBuilders program.

Our City Life program focuses on Columbus’s urban

neighborhood of Franklinton. Franklinton teens are clearly

in need of positive adult role models and peer groups who

will offer unconditional acceptance while helping to equip

them to make healthy and productive life choices. Our City Life program is structured

so as to provide as much relational time with the youth as possible. City Life provides

mentors, job and life skills instruction, community service opportunities, sports and

recreational activities, faith-based programming and leadership training for more than

600 Franklinton teenagers. All of these services take place at our City Life Center at

40 Chicago Ave.
