Important New Academic Policy ChangesEffective Fall Semester 2010

Repeating a Course

A student is permitted to repeat a course once without permission. To repeat a course a second time, a student must receivepermission from the dean of the academic division (or his or her designee) in which the course is offered. To repeat a course a thirdtime or more, a student must submit a written request to and receive approval from the Vice President for Instruction.

All grades awarded for repeated courses will appear on the transcript; however, only the most recent grade for a repeated course isused to calculate a student's grade point average. A student may not repeat courses in which grades of "I" or "CE" were awarded. Astudent requesting a repeat of course for which a grade of "AU" was awarded must follow the Audit policy found in the Catalog.

The following new academic policy changes become effective July 1, 2010 for fall semester 2010. All students registering forthe Fall 2010 semester should pay careful attention to these changes, which are also found in the 2010-11 RCC Catalog. These new policies will be discussed with new and readmitted students during the admission process. Returning/continuingstudents should consult with their academic advisor or program director regarding these changes.

Students enrolling in ENG-075/080/090 and/or RED-080/090 for the first time beginning Fall 2010 must also register for CIS-070,which is now a co-requisite for these courses. Students who have successfully completed an English or Reading developmental courseprior to Fall 2010 do not need to take CIS-070 as a co-requisite. Students who were previously enrolled in one of those courses butfailed, withdrew, or were withdrawn from the course, must take CIS-070 when enrolling again in one of those courses.

A student who withdraws or is withdrawn from CIS-070 while registered for one of the English or Reading courses shown abovemust also withdraw or be withdrawn from the those courses.

Given the rapidly changing nature of information and required course competencies, RCC reserves the right to limit credits that areaccepted in a program of study based upon the year in which the credits were earned. This includes credits earned that have or havenot resulted in the completion of a degree.

RCC reserves the right to review credits that were earned more than ten years prior to admission to a program of study. Thisreview is conducted by the dean of the division in which the program of study resides unless the credits are included in an earnedassociate or higher degree. The Vice President for Instruction may review in the absence of the division dean.

Courses (even those that are part of an earned degree) which rely on technology, the health sciences, foreign language, the sci-ences, or those with rapidly changing competencies, will be subject to review by the division dean where the course resides. Coursessubject to review will be compiled by the division dean.

Developmental course work is valid for three years. Students will have the option to re-take the placement test or enroll again inthe required developmental course(s).

Students applying for health sciences admission programs must adhere to the specific admission requirements, including timelimits and course grades, as outlined in the health sciences admission information packets.

All credit is awarded at the discretion of RCC.
