 MFAH The Museum of Fine Arts Houston Discover a World of Art at the Homeschool Family Day at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston! 1:00  4:00 p.m., September 23, 2010 Art Passport: Travel the World at the MFAH will be the theme for the fall 2010 Homeschool Family Day. From 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, homeschool families can participate in art-making and gallery experiences that will give everyone the opportunity to explore works of art from different cultures and time periods throughout the museum. No pre-registration is required for this program and admission is always free on Thursdays at the museum. Gallery Investigations 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Gallery 106M, Caroline Wiess Law Building and European Galleries, 2 nd floor, Audrey Jones Beck Building  At our Gallery Carts, families can uncover details and insights about art with looking games, books, and hands-on activities. You’ll be able to get your passport stamped in the Arts of India Gallery and the European galleries. Sketching in the Galleries 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cullinan Hall, Caroline Wiess Law Building Examine and discover works of art around the museum as you develop your own artistic skills. Drawing supplies, a camp stool, and drawing tips will be provided by an MFAH Teaching Artist.

Clay Around the World : An Art-making Project1:00 to 4:00 p.m.In two locations: Farish Classroom and Southwestern Bell Studio, Audrey JonesBeck BuildingFamilies can learn about different techniques for making clay vessels, an ancient traditionthat continues today in many communities around the world. Be inspired by the vessels inthe museum’s collection from ancient Greece and Rome, Korea, and many differentcommunities in North, Central, and South America.

*Extra Fun: We’ll have some leftover art-making supplies available for families to take home in the SW Bell Studio.

Storybook Films: Tales from Abroad and Tales of America

1:30 and 2:30 p.m.Brown Auditorium, Caroline Wiess Law Building

Families with young ones will love these animated films that bring popular storybooks to life.

1:30 p.m.: Tales from AbroadStrega Nona : Strega Nona’s meddling assistant Big Anthony is determined to prove to thetownspeople his knowledge of the magic secrets contained in the pasta pot of Strega Nona. Inso doing, he unleashes a torrent of pasta which threatens to engulf their little Italian town. TomiedePaola is the author and illustrator of this award-winning book. (8:21)

Lon Po Po : In this Chinese version of the classic fairy tale, a mother leaves her three children home alone while she goesto visit their grandmother. When the children are visited by a wolf, pretending to be their Po Po, or granny, they let him inthe house, but ultimately are not fooled by his deep voice and hairy face. (13:41)

2:30 p.m.: Tales of AmericaThe Scrambled States of America Talent Show : Those wacky scrambled states are having a talent show. Revel in themadcap adventures and silly antics of this star-studded cast, while learning interesting facts about the states andgeography. (20:00)

Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale : Trixie, Daddy and Knuffle Bunny take a trip to the neighborhood Laundromat in a big

city, but their exciting adventure takes an unexpected turn when Trixie realizes something is missing. Brilliantly narratedby author Mo Willems and his real-life daughter, Trixie, this instant classic will keep viewers on the edge of their seats!(9:18)
