Assembly 737 Halloween AdventureThe weather couldn’t have been better for our mid-October Halloween Hayride. This was the first year our annual hayride

allowed the youth to wear their costumes without the added protection of gloves, hats and coats. More than 25 youth mem-bers (along with their parents, grandparents and friends which outnumbered the youth 3 to 1) enjoyed a hayride through the“haunted woods” to a pumpkin patch to pick their pumpkin followed by a night walk through the corn maze, games, a ghost-ly craft and refreshments. Special thanks to our adult members that help organize, entertain and clean-up to help make thisis one of our most successful activities enjoyed by the youth as well as the adults.

Two wagonfuls attended our Halloween Hayride. Everyone had a great time!

2013 POETRY CONTEST WINNERS2013 POETRY CONTEST WINNERS

SHAKESPEARE GROUP - AGES 14, 15 & 16

1st PlaceCourage

By Caly Farrell

Courage can be hard to come by

Regardless of how hard we try.

Our colors are truly shown

When we do things others condone.

Courage is often difficult to find

When we fail to use our mind.

But sometimes we do well

By showing the world we are swell.

Many situations will challenge us,

And in them, courage is a plus.

It can be hard not to go with the crowd.

2nd PlaceThat One Place

By Madison Beatty

When I walkI feel happiness

Warmth on my shouldersThat one place - an oasis

The walls are brightThe windows are blue

The carpet is softAnd the curtains have a subtle silver hue

My favorite spot is the big armchairCozy and soft with comfort to spare

And when I sit down, my cat jumps up withglee

Hoping and praying this time I wouldn't leaveMackenzie and Me

In the back bedroomRunning a businessFor charity - St. Jude

Downstairs was up, upstairs was downSometimes when I was little I called it

the backward houseEvery Christmas was there since I was 5

But there is no chimneySo how did Santa get inside

It’s the place I grew upIt’s filled with memoriesIt’s the one place I love

It’s the one place for me it be.

3nd PlaceListening

By Katherine Ostrowski

Only letting words and soundsPass through your ears and

Without meaning to your brain,Is not listening.

But if one would stop,Really hear those sounds,

Contemplate on them,They become something new and true.

How often we block the meaning of sounds. Not taking in what they mean.We might hear birds chirping

And it never occurs to us that it’s spring. We must really listen to our family and friends,

Then will we come to a greater love andAppreciation for them.

If we stop talking for a little,Hear and think,

We will be able to appreciateThe whole world our Lord has placed us in.

By Elizabeth OstrowskiI am an emu.

Now what to do?!OH NO!!!

Darn it, should have done this at night. The patrollers jump out of their cart and chase me

While I try to hide behind a tree.AAAK!!! I’m cornered!

They herd me back to my cage,And though it may look as if I’m shaking with rage,

ButYou can bet,

The day ain’t over yet.I will escape again!!

I will just wait ‘til the patrol is gone. But don’t worry,

THIS time the escapeWon’t go wrong.

2nd PlaceDogs

By Isabella Ferary

Dogs come in many sizes,

Big, medium, and small.

The Golden Retriever is the wisest,

Chihuahua the smallest of all.

My dogs are Huskies,

They are black, white, and grey.

They’re very cute puppies,

And always want to play.

My family loves dogs,

They don’t care what kind.

I just care if they’re sweet,

And always on my mind.

THE BIGGEST LIETwo boys were arguing when theteacher entered the room.

The teacher says, “Why are you argu-ing?”

One boy answers, “We found a ten

dollor bill and decided to give it towhoever tells the biggest lie.”

"You should be ashamed of your-selves," said the teacher, "When I wasyour age I didn’t even know what a liewas."

The boys gave the ten dollars to theteacher.

Especially covered in meat.

First comes the crust,

Then sauce is a must.

It’s the best food around,

And found all through the town

1st PlaceSummertime Fun

By Samuel Strish

I splashed into the pool

And I got cool

The sun was hot

But I was not

I like to play baseball

Until I hear my Mom call

I get thirsty and I need a drink

So I run to the sink

The drink makes me cool

Just like being in the pool

There is lots of things in the great outdoors,

Squirrel's are in the trees,

while caterpillars are eating lots of leaves.

Turtles relaxing in the water,

and the butterflies always flutter.

Kids swimming in the pool,

so they can stay cool.

Snakes are crawling in the grass,

while kids are fishing for bass.

1st PlaceBenny the Bunny

By Lydia HerbsterI have a bunny,

His name is Benny.

He is the softest bunny you could ever pet,

He is the sweetest bunny I ever met.

He munches his grass,

He crunches his pellets.

He also eats Cheerios when he does tricks.

He jumps up the stairs, pushes open the door, and runs into his cage.

He is a black bunny with floppy ears,

Let’s give him three cheers!
