A Rock Solid Guarantee

Scripture does not contain a great deal of humor but God does from time

to time reveal a sense of humor; specifically in the form of irony. The book

of Esther has an excellent example in regard to an incident featuring

Haman & Mordecai.

There is another twist of irony surrounding the resurrection of Christ which

solidifies our faith in the fact of the event. On Saturday, the Sabbath, the

chief priests and Pharisees conducted a business meeting with Pontius

Pilate. Matthew 27:63-66 63 “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he

was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64 So give

the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his

disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has

been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.” 65 “Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you

know how.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal

on the stone and posting the guard. In their zeal to prevent the followers of Jesus from stealing his body and

claiming a resurrection; (something which would not have worked without

an appearance by Jesus) they unintentionally guarantee that their later lie

would not work. In so doing they end up removing a stolen body as a

possibility and in a sense offer a rock solid guarantee that Jesus in fact rose

from the dead.

It is not a proof that we as Christians need. The appearances of Jesus and

the record of the Scripture seals the deal for us. This is just the cherry on top

so to speak.

Mary could tell? Go back to

Personal Care Kits We are collecting items for the Lutheran World Relief Care Kits. When LWR distributes Personal Care Kits, it’s often to people who have lost everything. In the wake of an earthquake, or

having fled from violence as their homes were overtaken, they clasp a towel from a faraway place, with a bar of soap, a toothbrush…and washing up, they know that they have not been forsaken by the world. The very simple gesture of giving a Personal Care Kit can give someone the encouragement to start anew, starting with a bath. You can share God’s grace and love by providing that simple comfort.

Place donations in the collection box in the narthex or under the LWML bulletin board.

ITEMS NEEDED for Personal Care Kits: light weight bath towels (dark color 20"x40" or 52"x27") bath size bars of soap adult toothbrushes sturdy combs metal nail clippers
