faith lutheran church the parish news this month’s message...
TRANSCRIPT
A ugust is an exciting month here at Faith Lutheran Church. As summer draws to a close,
we’ll be kicking off a new year of Sunday School and Wednesday midweek events. There
are many, many opportunities for you to get involved, connect with others and grow in your
faith.
Sunday education classes for children of all ages will begin a new year on August
16th. The education hour takes place from 9:15 until 10:15, between our two worship ser-
vices so that you are able to attend both. Beginning Sunday School for two and three year
old children and their parents will also take place during this time. Teachers for both
Sunday School classes and Midweek Education classes will be installed during the wor-
ship services on August 16th.
Also beginning on August 16th will be three Bible study opportunities for adults.
You can attend the 1) Sunday Lessons class, 2) Christian Apologetics, or 3) For the Life of
the World. See the Education News insert inside this newsletter for more information.
These classes also meet during the education hour on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:15
On August 19th, we’ll kickoff our Wednesday night ac-
tivities with a Fall Jamboree. Wednesday night events
include bible classes for children age 3 or older, adult bible
study, choirs for adults and youth, and the craft group.
There will be an opening worship service for all groups and
classes at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary, centered around Jesus’
words in John 15:5: “I am the vine and you are the
branches.” Following an introduction to the year, we’ll end
the evening with an ice cream social on the east lawn (weather permitting).
New this year, we’ll be offering a pulled pork meal in the basement fellowship hall
before opening worship on August 19th. Tickets are being sold in the church of-
fice for $1 per person. Please reserve your spot before August 12th so we can have
enough food for everyone. Dinner will be served at 5:30 pm and all are welcome to attend.
A new year of Hot Talks for teenagers in high school will also begin the evening of
August 19th. High-schoolers are invited to gather in the youth room downstairs at 8:00
pm. They will continue to meet every Wednesday night from 8-9 pm until the season of
Advent begins.
You can look inside this newsletter for more details about some of these opportunities or call the
church office if you have any questions. We would be glad to help you find a way to connect with
others and remain connected to Jesus, the vine!

News and Notes
Chestnut Corner Bazaar’s Service Auction After a huge success last year, the Chestnut Corner Bazaar will again be having another
silent “Service Auction.” (This takes the place of theme baskets.) We are looking for mem-
bers of the congregation to donate a “service or talent” they may have. Proceeds from the
“Service Auction” will benefit Orphan Grain Train, this year’s mission recipient.
Look for the first display in the forum on September 20, to get ideas of services or talents you may
want to consider.
Watch for the actual BID BOARD beginning October 25 in the forum.
We are once again excited for this fairly new endeavor and the opportunity for the family of Faith to
enrich each other with their talents! To donate or ask question please contact: Lisa Bulas, 402-984-
9738 or Jocelyn Rundle, 402-469-6228
LWML– Ruth Circle will meet on Wednesday, August 26 at 1:30pm. Anyone
needing a ride can contact Gayle VanPatten, 402-462-6560.

My children, do not forget my teaching,
but let your heart keep my commandments,
for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.
— Proverbs 3:1-2
August Verse of the Month – John 15:5 –
[Jesus said] “I am the vine and you are the branches. Whoever remains in me, and I
in him, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without me.”
This verse from John chapter 15 will serve as our theme for Word on Wednesdays and mid-
week activities this year. Jesus promises us that those who are in him will bear fruit, but
apart from him, our source of life, we are helpless. Through Sunday worship, Bible study
(on Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings and other times), devotions, prayer and conversa-
tions with other Christians, we remain connected to Jesus. Together we help each other
remain in Christ so that we can grow and bear fruit. Could you commit this verse to
memory this month? Spend 5 minutes a day, perhaps in the morning when you wake up,
or at night before you go to sleep, to learn and memorize John 15:5. Tape it to your bathroom mirror or
bedroom door and be reminded that Jesus is the vine who gives us life.
